MMA Melee: News On Free Agents, Retirements, & Power Rangers!

Nick Diaz (22-7) dispatched Marius Zaromskis in a 1 round war to become the new Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, but just who will he defend the title against? It was widely thought that Jay Hieron's win over Joe Riggs would grant him the title shot he signed with Strikeforce for, but Scott Coker is leaning toward a bout with Hayato "Mach" Sakurai instead. Perhaps Strikeforce does not find the "Thoroughbred" marketable enough yet, but he has a 7 fight win streak combined with just horrible luck. Jay's big fight at Affliction vs Jason High was a highlight reel KO that nobody saw as the PPV went off the air too soon. Last night, Hieron's bout was broadcast live on the Internet via EA Sports but the feed was unwatchable. Now the Xtreme Couture fighter is a free agent and will be looking for that title shot even more or possibly a move to the UFC. Diaz isn't impressed with the idea of fighting either guy but probably won't get what he wants, that being a title shot against the UFC's Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva.

Bobby Lashley is looking for a title shot against Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem after 5 meaningless bouts against jobbers. The "Demolition Man" says he is currently a free agent and may sign with the UFC if they can work out a few more things in his possible contract! We may never see Fedor Emelianenko vs Alistair Overeem now and Lashley should just keep fighting people the level of Bob Sapp, who recently broke his finger in an interview with a lady (true story). Also it should be noted, Lashley found himself joking around with Wes Sims at the post fight press conference when Sims unexpectedly shoved Bobby and things got awkward. Wes seemed to no longer be joking though the "Boss" didn't accept the taunt.

Ultimate Fighting Championship will present their 112th card in Abu Dhabi on April 16th, on what will be the first ever outdoor UFC event. I have actually seen events outdoors and they are not helpful to the fighters. 1 event was actually flooded with rain while another I saw was very hot and humid causing the fighters to gas out earlier than normal for a bad card. We shall see how this plays out as Zuffa gambles with mother nature.

In mighty important MMA news, former Mighty Morphing Power Ranger Jason David Frank won his MMA pro debut with a omo plata tapout victory. Opponent Jon Mack landed some punches early that hurt Frank, but he took Mack down and secured the basic submission win. The sky is the limit people and the fight will be shown on HD Net in the coming weeks.

We hardly knew ya "Big Baby." Marcus Jones (4-2), a sentimental favorite from last season's TUF, has already called it a career after only 1 UFC bout. The "Darkness" was KO'd by Matt Mitrione in the TUF finale and has decided at 37, that its just too late in the game to make a serious run in MMA. Jones is a respectful happy giant who would make a great commentator for any promotion and we wish the the gardener all the best in future endeavors.

Former pro boxing Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs is set launch a career in MMA. Briggs, a 2-time former champion, has signed a deal with Madison Avenue Sports and Entertainment and will be in Manhattan Wednesday to begin working out with noted MMA trainer Dan Anderson. There is no date or site for when Briggs, a Brooklyn native, will make his MMA debut, though it's unclear whether he has abandoned his boxing career. Briggs, who could not be reached for comment, last fought on Dec. 3 scoring a first-round knockout over Marcus McGee at the Hammerstein Ballroom. It was his first fight since losing the WBO heavyweight title to Sultan Ibragimov in 2007. Big fella, bad idea.

Finally Don Frye (20-8-1) has retired. Sort of. “I’m pretty much quitting MMA. I’ve had enough of the shit. I’m done with it,” announced Frye. “The competitive urges still flow through me, but I’m tired of the promoters. The fight game isn’t a respectful profession any more,” he stated. “They’ve made a mockery out of it by letting Jose Canseco fight, and now Hershel Walker, and all these other jackasses in their 40’s who have never fought.

“They’re getting paid more than the guys who have been putting years into it. It’s an embarrassment and a shame.” My guess is we will see the "Predator" return as he is only 44 and has gone 2-2 in the last 2 years against marginal talent. I will miss you most of all porno mustache.

STRIKEFORCE Miami Results: Nick Diaz FINALLY Earns A Championship!!

Bobby Lashley defeats Wes Sims in a spectacle bout that ended about as awfully as expected. “The Boss” hits the double leg takedown and is pounding out Sims when the referee steps in too early and awards Lashley the TKO win. We learn nothing about Bobby’s growth and had our time wasted.

Robbie Lawler KO’d Melvin Manhoef all the way to China with an overhand right from hell and a left hand just for the coma. Manhoef was just abusing the lead leg of Lawler, shooting it into the sky and looking to attack the squared up wrestler when “Ruthless” hit the prayer no-look punch and pasted Mel out! Melvin was out cold for quite some time and finally came around with a single trickle of blood running down his confused face. 1 round KO, as advertised. “Live by the sword, die by the sword.”

Herschel Walker defeats a Tomato Can by Rd.3 something or other. #34 pivots around a bit landing a jab and stuffs a takedown attempt by Nagy which is pronounced “Nudge” oddly enough. Then Herschel stacks up Nooge and commits some awful G&P and almost gets caught in a leglock. Then in the 2nd the 3 commentators begin cumming on each other about how amazing Herschel Walker is. UFC Welterweight Champion
Georges St. Pierre is shown in attendance and gets a nice hand from the crowd. Walker is awkwardly out of position constantly but Greg is selling this “work” badly. Walker punches the shoulder of his opponent and the ref stops the horrible fight. I believe Greg will go back to his job setting up the cage now.

Dan Henderson got the biggest pop of the crowd and possible future opponent
Gegard Mousasi did as well. Listen to the commentary on the Hershel Walker bout and you can actually hear Frank Shamrock’s balls slapping the ass of Mauro Ranallo as they visualize #34 fisting their sphincters. Its interesting. There has, I mean has to be a future fight with Kimbo Slice. 2 gifted fighters nearing their primes and on the cusp of MMA greatness.

The title section of the card begins with "Femborg" Santos using her bullying striking style to take out Marloes Coenen in the 3rd round. Cristiane just kept turning the intensity level up when everyone thought she would fade and this Chute Boxe star looks unstoppable. Marloes had heart but I can't wait till Erin Toughhill gets her shot and they find out who has the bigger penis.

Nick Diaz defeats Marius Zaromskis by Rd.1, yes that's Rd.1 TKO! Zaromskis strikes 1st with a leg assault and then Nick pins him to the gate and unloads about 500 knee to knee strikes. Finally separated they unload bombs and Diaz is dropped. Many back of the head shots and a “final” warning giving by the ref. Diaz is bleeding on schedule and now the fight is really on as these 2 guys throw!! “Diablo” lands a straight right and a now standard body shots as Marius is on skates! The “Whitemare” is living one as he hits the canvas after a the onslaught and Diaz is the winner in the 1st round and your Strikeforce Welterweight Champion! “That’s
Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu mother fuckers!” Diaz seems indifferent to winning and mentions his little brother won his last fight indicating that they believe he was robbed by the judges. Smoke the purple kush its pandemonium in Stockton baby as the 3rd Strikeforce belt comes to the “Scrap Pack” and Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu clan!

8-2 on the picks keeping the rhythm.

STRIKEFORCE Miami

The MMA "picks" game returns with an exciting "Main Event" and a just terrible card. Most of us won't even see this tragedy "live." I like "quotes."

STRIKEFORCE: January 30, 2010
BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida

Main Card (On
Showtime):
Nick Diaz (20-7) vs. Marius Zaromskis (13-3) This 5-round fight is for the vacant
Strikeforce Welterweight Championship. "Diablo" has been on a tear as of late winning 5 straight and impressing the MMA world. Marius has been devastating people in Japan also winning 5 in a row, 3 of which were highlight head kick KO's in a row. If Diaz would just pull guard this fight would be over quickly with a blink of the eye submission, but he'll probably stand with a sick specialist and get blasted in similar fashion to the KJ Noons debacle. Either way I bet its exciting shit.
WINNER-"The Whitemare" by Rd.2 TKO
*UPDATE* "I ain't no bitch." Diaz looks far bigger at the weigh-ins and will use his loong reach advantage all night. WINNER-Nick Diaz!
145 lb. Womens Champion Cris "Cyborg" Santos (8-1) vs. Marloes Coenen (17-3) Yes well, expect the Women's Champion to dominate in typical brutal fashion.
WINNER-"Femborg" by Rd.3 TKO
Robbie Lawler (16-5) vs. Melvin Manhoef (24-6-1) A bomber's delight as 2 ferocious punchers with massive power throw to kill. Unfortunately Mel has zero game besides the striking and with wrestling, ample power, far better cardio, and Matt Hughes HIT Squad, I'll take "Ruthless" to find a way after avoiding damage early.
WINNER-Lawler Rd.1 KO
Herschel Walker (0-0) vs. Greg Nagy (1-1) As stupid as this "name" bout is,
Scott Coker would not put Hershel in the cage with someone he couldn't beat.
WINNER-#34
Bobby Lashley (4-0) vs. Wes Sims (22-12-1) Another "name" bout as the
WWE/TNA pro wrestler takes on the wanna be pro wrestler, annoying ass TUF alum, member of the awful Hammer House, and hasn't been notable since 2004.
WINNER-"The Boss" by ugly Decision

Preliminary Card (Live on
EASports.com):
Jay Hieron (18-4) vs. Joe Riggs (32-10) This is kinda intriguing as Riggs tries to stay healthy and continue his 4 fight winning streak. Jay wants a title shot with the winner of
Diaz/Zaromskis and has an impressive 6 fight winning streak. Randy Couture continues to guide "The Thoroughbred" toward serious MMA attention and will be coming to impress. It is very appreciated that they give us this bout for free online.
WINNER-Jay Hieron by Decision

Preliminary Card (Non-Televised):
Pablo Alfonso (5-1) vs. Marcos Da Matta (7-0) W-Da Matta
Michael Byrnes vs. David Zitnik (
This is awful) W-Zitnik
Sabah Homasi (2-0) vs. John Kelly (3-0) (2
near rookies) W-Kelly
Craig Oxley (0-2) vs. David Gomez (0-2) (Craig has not fought since
2001) W-Gomez
Hayder Hassan vs. Ryan Keenan (3-0)
W-Keenan

MMA Melee: Brock Lesnar Is Back & Jackie Chan Chimes In

Brock Lesnar will be returning this summer to defend the Heavyweight title against either Frank Mir or Shane Carwin depending on who wins their bout at UFC 111 March 27th. What does this mean? If all goes as planned and Brock gets the newly crowned "interim" champion in the standard 3 months recovery and training after a bout time frame, it will have been over a year since Lesnar fought in the UFC. The champ lost 60 lbs. but has already gained back 40 lbs. and I'm not thinking its going to be that much of an issue. The monster can certainly gain weight but now his invincible image is tarnished with fighters perhaps feeling more confident going in against a man with many question marks surrounding him. We have about 5 or 6 months before we begin to find out.

Nate Diaz and Diego Sanchez are both planning to move to the Welterweight division following their recent losses. The "Nightmare" has looked gaunt at Lightweight and I have long stated he needs to gain weight, not lose it, to become a Champion. Nate's waif like frame could easily add muscle to it perhaps making his strikes land with some impact. Now if only I can get Anthony Johnson to make the move up.

Bob Shamrock the adoptive father of Frank and Ken Shamrock has passed away. Bob was a man who dedicated his life to helping troubled teens a job many would not sign up for. Our condolences to the Shamrock family. Sherdog has a great article at http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/Remembering-Bob-Shamrock-22116, which profiles his life.

The "Fireball Kid" Takanori Gomi is officially signed with the UFC and will get the staunch task of facing Kenny Florian at UFC Fight Night 21 in North Carolina, for his debut. Gomi has won 2 in a row with a daunting 31-5 record. The former Pride FC and Shooto Champion is looking to get back to gold and prominence in America.

Jake Shields has signed on to be an assistant coach with Chuck Liddell on the UFC's reality show The Ultimate Fighter season 11. This is significant because Shields is the competition's Middleweight Champion over at Strikeforce and it is surprising that Zuffa would allow him any exposure. A lot can end up on the video cutting room floor so stay close for this odd development.

The Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago is set to rematch Mamed Khalidov (20-3-1) at World Victory Road's Sengoku Raiden Championships 12 on March 7 in Tokyo. Khalidov knocked out Santiago in a stunning upset at Sengoku 11th Battle this past November, but the bout was a non-title fight and the belt stayed in the Brazilian's hands.

Television kingpin, Mark Burnett, has invested in King of the Cage, and through this recent-founded partnership the company has managed to secure a broadcast deal with HDNet Fights for the year of 2010. The debut of King the Cage on HDNet in 2010 will kick off with a show targeted for March 26 from Reno, Nevada. King of the Cage has long been a source for upcoming prospects and a strong "minor league" for MMA.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said two previously announced eight-woman tournaments, at 135- and 145-pounds, will kick off at the promotion’s Challengers event in April. Strikeforce 145-pound champion Cristiane “Femborg” Santos and Gina Carano, whom Santos defeated by first-round technical knockout last August in San Jose, Calif., will not compete in the tournaments, said Coker.

Finally Jackie Chan has put his valuable 2 cents in on the subject of MMA. "I don't like to see 'ultimate fighting,'" Chan said. "As a martial artist, I find it too violent putting them in a cage. At the end, it's not fighting anymore. That's not the martial arts. Martial arts is about respect. When somebody is knocked down, stop. I really respect Sugar Ray Leonard. Come on, [when a guy is down,] stop. Don't fight. That's not the spirit. When you're down, I'll grab you up. Are you OK? Should we continue? That's the martial arts spirit. That's what I want."
There are so many idiotic things mentioned here that I will let you simply mull them over at your own convenience. Chan's record is 3-98 in good movies to bad.

UFC Fight Night 20: Maynard vs Diaz

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 20: January 11, 2010
Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia

Main Bouts:
Gray Maynard (8-0) vs. Nate Diaz (11-4) A win here could possibly put the Xtreme Couture Lightweight on the list as the next victim for vampire champion, BJ Penn. The younger Diaz needs a big name win to keep his name in the conversation of durable 155 prospects. The "Bully" lives up to his name utilizing the G&P in a solid workman effort. This fight lives on the ground which should make the fans boo.
WINNER-Gray Maynard by Decision
Efrain Escudero (12-0) vs. Evan Dunham (9-0) Normally I would choose Evan because he has better, crisper striking and Efrain throws wild bombs. However, I am 0-2 picking the season 9 TUF winner so I'm letting him roll on.
WINNER-Escudero by Decision
Aaron Simpson (6-0) vs. Tom Lawlor (6-1) The "A-Train" is coming with a cargo of whoop ass on the polite and amusing Tommay. The "Filthy Mauler" is going to get mauled.
WINNER-Aaron Simpson by Rd.1 TKO
Amir Sadollah (2-1) vs. Brad Blackburn (15-9-1) The UFC wants him to win, the fans want him to win, and this is a game opponent made to help Amir win.
WINNER-Sadollah by Decision

Prelim Bouts:
Chris Leben (18-7) vs.
Jay Silva (5-2) W-Silva
Jesse Lennox (11-1) vs.
Rick Story (8-3) W-Story
Nik Lentz (17-3-1) vs.
Thiago Tavares (14-3) W-Tavares
Mike Guymon (10-2-1) vs.
Rory MacDonald (9-0) W-MacDonald
Kyle Bradley (14-6) vs.
Rafael dos Anjos (12-4) W-Dos Anjos
Gerald Harris (13-2) vs.
John Salter (3-0) W-Harris
Nick Catone (6-2) vs.
Jesse Forbes (11-3) W-Catone

UFC 108 Results "A Pretty Quick Night & Miller, Miller, & Kampmann Impress"

Rafaello Oliveira begins the evening with a Unanimous Decision win over John Gunderson.

Mike Pyle vs Jake Ellenberger
Rd.1 It is an impressive battle of wits on the floor with Pyle defending the G&P and eventually going for a kimura but failed to get it. Awesome floor fight with Jake controlling the round. A strong flurry from Ellenberger and Mike heads to his corner shaky. 10-9 Ellenberger
Rd.2 Mike told his corner he broke a rib and Ellen attacks early with a right to the body that folds Pyle and then a right that places him on the canvas. The G&P seals the deal as the referee saves Pyle for the TKO win.
*Its been a tough draw for "Quicksand" going 1-3 early in his UFC run, but I hope Zuffa hangs on to the submission seeker a big longer allowing the very talented kid to evolve.

Mark Munoz vs Ryan Jensen
Rd.1 The newest
Black House member meets Jenson who looks like a roided "Dexter" who cinches a guillotine, but can’t get the tap as the "PWM" moves to side control and then to the feet. Jenson lands a bit and when they lock up the OK St. wrestler takes him down. Mark unloads from his feet and a turtled up Jenson tried to tapout but Yamasaki missed it. Jenson is completely covered up taking a beating and taps again for the 2nd time.
*The "PWM" looks pretty good at 185 and with his elite amateur wrestling background and growing MMA game with the Black House, clan expect good things.

Cole Miller vs Dan Lauzon (Fight Of The Night)
Rd.1 The lanky brothers of brothers come out throwing bombs with a lot of clinch work. Both guys are landing but Cole is controlling the fight when a big counter left hook floors him! Dan follows up with a knee to the body as Cole gets back up. The “Upgrade” punishes Cole who fails on a takedown as Dan takes his back. Beautiful tuck and roll from Miller who masterfully gains side control and holy shit, locks in the inverse triangle! Cole has it and taps out Dan Lauzon with an inverted triangle, the ultra-rare tapout that won the submission of the year honors for
Toby Imada! Who would have thought we would see that fantastic finish again so quickly?
*Just a great fight to watch with 2 evenly matched warriors going for broke and a great show of class after the bell. I would watch a rematch for sure!

Martin Kampmann vs Jacob Volkmann
Rd.1 The Dutch "Hitman" trades with "X-Mas" in a flurry and avoids the wrestlers takedown. Martin gets caught solid and then lands a left that drops Volkmann for just a second. Left eye of Kampmann is bleeding and he catches a couple more shots that rock him but again the counter right hook by Martin drops Volkman hard. "Hitman" in guard lands some hard strikes and hammer fists before he locks up a Inverted Guillotine choke and Volk taps out.
*Martin seemed a bit amped up to overshadow the loss he just suffered to Paul Daley and puts his name back into the title hunt though still needing around 2 big wins 1st. Jacob was tough on short notice but the lack of technical striking caught up with him in the end.

Junior Dos Santos vs Gilbert Yvel
Rd.1 The Heavyweights come out throwing for broke and a right catches "Cigano's" face flush though he seems fine. Jr. ducks the right bomb and lands the counter left flattening the "Hurricane." G&P causes the referee to step in as Gil debates the stoppage with Herb Dean but he is wrong.
*Dos Santos won't face "Big Nog" since they are buddies from the same camp and with Mir/Carwin and Nogueira/Velasquez in the future the originally proposed bout for UFC 108 vs Gabriel Gonzaga would still make sense.

Jim Miller vs Duane Ludwig
Rd.1 "Bang" lands 1st and the men trade a bit. Miller knocks down an off-balance Ludwig with a right hand and clasps on that Armbar before you know it. That's all folks.
*Duane wasn't exactly in the best situation to win this so here's hoping the guy gets another shot with proper training time before he exits the promotion yet again. Jim runs his record to 16-2 but will need another "name" victory and a title eliminator against Frankie Edgar would be ideal!!

Joe Lauzon vs Sam Stout
I just hate Sam Stout now. The guy is handed undeserved victories against Spencer Fisher and Matt Wiman but now at 3-3 he just keeps staying in the UFC. Damn it someone end this 1-dimensional cat already. Unanimous Decision win for Sam Stout.

Paul Daley vs Dustin Hazelett
"McLovin" could not get close enough for a takedown and despite valiant punches with his eyes closed, "Semtex" KO's Dustin into oblivion for another big win for Team Rough House.
*Pull guard, lay down, do something besides try to stand with a bomber. Not a smart fight for Dustin and he was pasted into the canvas.

Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva
That was an odd fight. Rashad comes out with dominant back to basics wrestling and Silva has zero answer through 2 1/2 rounds. Evans gets the takedowns whenever he wants and Thiago burns a lot of energy on defense and trying to get up. Evans is just faster and Thiago knows the fight is slipping away so be begins to clown on "Sugar" dropping his hands to his side and sticking his big chin out. Rashad is patient but comes in with a combo and going away gets caught and is wobbled. Thiago knocks him down and hammers Evans but he can't put him away with only a minute and a half left in the fight. Evans survives and wins the Unanimous Decision.
*I'm guessing this performance doesn't have Quinton Jackson shaking in his Lugz but hey, Evans was off for 7 months with that near worthless TV show, was his 1st decision bout since 2007, and Silva is a tough cat. Thiago was not being disrespectful as much as he was trying to anger him into doing something stupid since he was only looking for the fight ending KO.

*That was definitely not worth $44.99 to watch especially when we got to see all the prelims (save for 1 bout), but that is a credit to Zuffa as well for showing us any fight for free. The PPV wasn't that bad and at least the "cursed card" is finally over and we begin 2010 going 8-2 on the picks.

UFC 108 "The Injury Curse Card" Predictions

UFC 108: January 2, 2010
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada

I can't completely blame the UFC for this awful card nobody should pay for, as fighter after fighter got the injury bug curse and shuffled this card causing Joe Silva to earn his paycheck early into 2010. It still should not be paid for.

Main Bouts (PPV):
Rashad Evans (13-1-1) vs. Thiago Silva (14-1) "Sugar" may leave himself wide open with some looping punches and catch a steam train right down the pipe but I feel he has a more well rounded game than the hard striking Jiu-Jitsu from Brazil. He'll need the solid gameplan of Greg Jackson but he'll find a way.
WINNER-Rashad Evans
Paul Daley (22-8-2) vs. Dustin Hazelett (12-4) "McLovin" will need to be careful with the heavy handed Brit, but pulling guard or what have you will lead to that eventual "Submission Of The Night."
WINNER-Dustin Hazelett by flying gogo plata in Rd.3
Joe Lauzon (18-4) vs. Sam Stout (20-5-1) Stout lives up to his last name as a durable striker with limited skills while "J-Lau" can strike but will drag the Canadian to the floor for a thurough drubbing and eventual stoppage.
WINNER-Joe Lauzon by Rd.1 Submission
Duane Ludwig (19-9) vs. Jim Miller (15-2) "Bang" returns to the UFC for the 1st time since 2003 for a last 2nd replacement bout. "Bang" never evolved as a fighter and thus on the mat will be pummeled back into obscurity. Lets just hope he's feeling a bit better than that dehydrated skeleton that weighed in for him.
WINNER-Jim Miller submission Rd.3
Junior Dos Santos (10-1) vs. Gilbert Yvel (36-13-1) There is little reason Yvel should even be employed with Zuffa but that aside, the guy used to be a decent albeit unprofessional fighter. He has that "puncher's chance" but I would not bet on it against a fellow striker from Team Nogueira who should own this fight wherever it goes. Run the train "Cigano."
WINNER-Jr. Dos Santos by TKO Rd.2

Prelim Bouts (On Spike TV):
Martin Kampmann (15-3) vs. Jacob Volkmann (9-1) The Dutch "Hitman" will need to work to get the win over an explosive super technical wrestler and rebound after a title shot losing loss to Paul Daley.
WINNER-Martin Kampmann by Decision
Dan Lauzon (12-2) vs. Cole Miller (15-4) The newly crowned "Upgrade" has game and toughness but Cole is going to be able to trade a bit before taking "D-Lau" to the mat and twisting him up like a Twizzler. *The younger Lauzon has never gone to a decision in 14 pro bouts.
WINNER-Cole Miller by Decision

Preliminary Bouts (Non-Televised):
Mark Munoz (6-1) vs. Ryan Jensen (14-5) W-Munoz
Mike Pyle (19-6-1) vs. Jake Ellenberge (21-5) W-Ellenberge
Rafaello Oliveira (9-2) vs. John Gunderson (22-6) W-Oliveira

2009 Dynamite!! Results & Reverie

DREAM's fighters defeat the Sengoku warriors 5-4 to win the "Raiden Championship!"

Shinya Aoki showed a new vicious side by snapping Mizuto Hirota's arm wounding him with a dislocated shoulder and broken arm at 1:17 of the 1st round! The mat magician pinned the Sengoku Lightweight Champion's right arm behind his back on the floor and pressed until the referee saw the broken arm and stopped the fight. Shinya actually then flipped off the injured Freelance fighter and ran around the ring with 2 #1 signals from his hands for the crowd whom he was upset with, because they had reportedly chanted Hirota's name.
*A wild mood swing from a normally soft spoken and humble man who stated at the following press conference. “When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping,” explained Aoki in a recent report at Sherdog.com. “I thought, ‘Well, this guy’s pride just won’t let him tap, will it?’ So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, ‘Ah, there, I just broke it.’ I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn’t been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me.”

Hidehiko Yoshida did not follow the plan of "passing the torch" as he won a close Unanimous Decision over the debuting Satoshi Ishii. Neither man world the fabled Gi's and it was the veteran who easily won the 1st round on the feet against a man 17 years his junior! In the 2nd round Ishii landed a rough knee to the groin of Yoshida who collapsed to the ground and the fight was almost called. Satoshi was docked a point and Yoshida spends the rest of the night on defense against a gassed out Ishii.
*Had Ishii not been docked a point he might have won the fight that I actually had scored a draw. Randy Couture eat your steroid infused HGH powered heart out. Wow does that whole sweepstakes for Satoshi seem worth it. Dana White is laughing his ass off right now.

Gegard Mousasi stated his training for the fight for which he got 2 days notice and didn't know until the last minute that the bout was MMA rules and not K-1, was, "not good." He still managed to unload about 3,003 rapid fire punches to the head of Gary Goodridge forcing the ref to step in stop the fight 1:34 after the ass whooping began. "Big Daddy" immediately rose to his feet complaining to the referee but he was not defending himself though he was not hurt.

Melvin Manhoef got off 1st dropping Kazuo Misaki and coming in for his lethal assault on the mat when the referee prematurely stopped a potentially good fight. The zebra stepped in waaay too early fearing the worst on the "Grabakan Hitman" who wasn't given the slightest chance to defend. Bad stoppage by the referee and Mel heads to Strikeforce with on a controversial win.

Tatsuya Kawajiri controlled Kazunori Yokota for 3 full rounds almost ending the evening early a few times but showed much respect for the underdog raising his hand to the crowd in a show of respect.

*Warning* The wheels have completely come off the "Kid" Yamamoto train. Masanori Kanehara pulls the biggest upset of the night for Sengoku, defeating Norifumi Yamamoto by unanimous decision! The "Kid" came out firing dropping Masanori 3 times with strikes but Yamamoto got caught with a right cross that had him reeling. The 2nd saw Masanori plant "Kid" face 1st into the mat and Norifumi held on for dear life the rest of the round. The final round saw Yamamoto attack with the fury of a man needing that KO home run and almost did it with a left hand. A very close fight finds "Kid" on the wrong side yet again! What a fight! Cue panic in the eyes of all the Yamamoto fans.

Akihiro Gono just never dies as he pulls a brilliant armbar submission on Hayato "Mach" Sakurai in the 2nd. I am just stunned and upset by this.

Alistair Overeem bombed a knee that KO'd Kazuyuki Fujita into complete unconsciousness. Poor "Ironhead" was out for a scary length of time and had to be carried out on a stretcher. The "Demolition Man" is practically sweating steroids people. Can we get a damn drug test already?

Sokoudjou is the worst kind of awful. I mean, I just have to state how bad this man is. Just stop sending him out there Dan Henderson. How can Sokojoke train with Team Quest, with the entire world knowing how terrible Thierry's endurance is, and simply never address it? How can this just continue to go on? It was 1 of the worst fights I have ever seen as Ikuhisa Minowa defeats Rameau Sokoudjou by a crowd suicide preventing TKO in the 3rd. The mad did as little as humanly possible in the 1st round and Sokojoke still almost found himself caught in a leglock. Then the standing begins. Such an embarrassing clash of awful styles with little action or engaging of any sort. Just standing and more standing. Yellow card anyone? Now dos yellow cards! The southpaw finally lands the final shot causing the to stop the fight early and thank god! Who has ever seen a fight this bad? Soko complains about the stoppage but it was really to save everyone watching this debacle and not the "African Assassin."

Michihiro Omigawa defeated Hiroyuki Takaya with a TV saving TKO 2:54 into round 1 while Hiroshi Izumi was awarded a decision win against Katsuyori Shibata who should have received the victory. Hideo Tokoro defeated Jong Man Kim by decision as Ray Sefo defeats the horrible Yosuke Nishijima in the
K-1 bout. Masato avenged 2 prior losses to Andy Sower to retire from kickboxing as a winner!

Working 9-5 on the picks though Ishii and Shibata should complain about their respective judges errors. Should be 11-3 is what I'm saying.
