UFC 125 Resolution: Edgar vs Maynard II

UFC 125: Resolution (Edgar vs. Maynard II)
January 1, 2011
MGM Grand
Las Vegas, Nevada

This is a great card. You give me Nate Diaz, Marcus Davis, Thiago Silva, Takanori Gomi, and the incomparable Clay Guida all on 1 card and I'll give you $45.00. There is also a title fight and all the guys I want to see aren't even the main draws for this event. Happy New Year!

Main Bouts (On Pay-Per-View):
Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar (13-1) vs. Gray Maynard (10-0) [Rematch] The champ is the one looking for redemption in this rematch as the "Bully" did just that in their 1st meeting. The wrestling edge favors Gray but Frankie's stand up skills shot by the Xtreme Couture prospect in a rocket ship. Still, Gray is so good at playing conservative and ensuring he wins the bout that the only real question is whether or not he can catch Freddie this time around.
WINNER-Gray Maynard by Decision

Chris Leben (25-6) vs. Brian Stann (9-3) A guaranteed slobber knocker as 2 tough as nails bangers come to throw. I don't think Stann has the power or chin that Leben does as the "Crippler" absorbs punishment before putting the "All-American" away late.
WINNER-Chris Leben by Rd.3 TKO

Thiago Silva (14-2) vs. Brandon Vera (11-5) The "Truth" is that this is Brandon's final shot in the UFC coming off 2 straight losses. Thiago and his jutting chin return from an 11 month back rehab. Yet another very hard to pick fight. Vera has all the tools but mentally he just falls apart in fights. Silva is mentally strong but I wonder about his chin though he has only been stopped once in his career. I dunno. Can't decide and will probably waver back and forth before the bout actually begins.
WINNER-Thiago Silva?

Nate Diaz (13-5) vs. Dong Hyun Kim (13-0-1) The "Donger" said his New Year's resolution is to "bitch slap Nate Diaz back to the 209." If you know anything about the brothers Diaz, you do not talk shit and you especially don't talk shit about Stockton. Just keep the name outcho mouth. All that being said, this is going to be a close fight. The "Stun Gun" is going to keep this fight close but Diaz has a size disadvantage and perennial anger. I don't want to pick against my boy but unless Nate can maintain top control, he's in trouble. This is a coin flip fight.
WINNER-Dong Hyun Kim by Decision?

Clay Guida (27-11) vs. Takanori Gomi (32-6) Two of my all time favorites meet in an epic clash as the "Carpenter" meets the "Fireball Kid" in an explosive clash of styles. Gomi sucks off his back but possesses KO power in both hands while Clay is a G&P prodigy who should avoid the stand up at all costs. If Guida stands with Gomi he'll end up like Tyson Griffin, unconscious and confused. Clay must put on a "Caprenter" like performance grinding down the Japanese super-star.
WINNER-Clay Guida by Decision

Prelims (Free On ION Television [whatever that is?]):
Marcus Davis (17-7) vs. Jeremy Stephens (18-6) The "Irish Hand Grenade" makes the move to Lightweight where he meets the always angry "Lil Heathen." Davis looked surprisingly healthy for a guy making the 1st cut but Stephens wrestling and Marcus ability to bleed and swell combine for a disappointing venture for a perennial favorite.
WINNER-Jeremy Stephens by Rd.3 TKO

Josh Grispi (14-1) vs. Dustin Poirier (8-1) Dustin is talented and people are sleeping on him coming in on short notice but Grispi had better bring his A game.
WINNER-Josh Grispi by ???

Phil Baroni (13-12) vs. Brad Tavares (6-0) The "NYBA" hasn't been a bad ass in years and nothing is going to change my mind before a fight. Anything can happen but the Hilo boy should hold court sending "NYBA" into retirement with a .500 record. By the by, did you see Baroni at the weigh-ins with his ghey leather jacket, toothpick, and indoor shades? Man that guy is a tool.
WINNER-Brad Tavares by Rd.3 TKO

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Mike Brown (24-6) vs. Diego Nunes (15-1) It's crazy to see MTB as the 2nd fight on a card but dems the breaks of the merger. The brutal former Featherweight champion meets the "Gun" who is talented but will probably get out muscled.
WINNER-MTB by Decision

Daniel Roberts (11-1) vs. Greg Soto (8-1) Soto kinda snuck in under the radar defeating "Shipshack" in his UFC debut while the "Ninja" is now 2-1 (in the UFC) and looking good. I'll take the new "Ninja" to win what could be a close judges nod.
WINNER-Daniel Roberts by Decision

Antonio McKee (25-3-2) vs. Jacob Volkmann (11-2) McKee is the old man of the sport who never shuts his mouth before delivering some of the most boring fights of all time. Going against "X-Mas" guarantees the longest 15 minutes of your life.
WINNER-Merry X-Mas by Decision

DREAM Dynamite!! 2010 Results: "Bancho" Becomes Champion

Andy Ologun defeats Katsuaki Furuki by Decision and bla bla bla on this fight.

Kazuyuki Miyata defeats Caol Uno by Unanimous Decision and though Uno can always find work in Japan, his relevance is waining.

Hideo Tokoro pulls the Armbar on Kazuhisa Watanabe who held his own on the floor for almost 3 rounds. Kaz did alright for a pro boxer/K-1 fighter/MMA newbie but it is what it is.
"Submission Of The Night"

Oh no, Hiroshi Izumi TKO's Ikuhisa Minowa in the final round. Hiroshi might be for real as he unloaded strikes all day and "Minowaman" absorbed as many as he could.
"Fight Of The Night"

Sergei Kharitonov KO's poor Tatsuya Mizuno with a knee and some strikes as the Russian makes a successful return to MMA and looks forward to a career in K-1. Tatty didn't use the greatest takedown clipping and running instead of looking to ground the now bulbous Sergei. Instead he met the red's power and went to sleep.
"KO Of The Night"

Alistair Overeem KO'd Todd Duffee in a mere 19 seconds to become the DREAM Heavyweight Champion along with his Strikeforce Heavyweight title and the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix Champion for a pretty damn good year. Todd came out strong but it was amusing how small he looked against the onslaught of giant sized "uber-knees" from the "Demolition Man." It was pinpoint striking from Alistair and Duffee was left unconscious through the ropes.

Satoshi Ishii got by Jerome Le Banner by Unanimous Decision. Ishii grounded Le Banner but gassed himself out and showed limited striking skills again. Not so sure that the Satoshi experiment is going to work out.

Marius Zaromskis
defeats Kazushi Sakuraba by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) after Saku's right ear became detached. Yes I said detached. Saku inexplicably stood with Marius who battered his right ear until it detached. When you begin literally falling apart in the ring, it becomes time to retire old friend.

Jason High upsets Hayato Sakurai by Split Decision. I was surprised to see High ground "Mach" and control him for most of the right. "Mach" rocked Jason late but he went to the recover wrestling takedown and survived.

Tatsuya Kawajiri grinds out Josh Thomson by Unanimous Decision. Tatsuya almost locked in the arm-triangle a couple of times but mainly just G&P'd the "Punk" until the final bell. I'm very happy for Kawajiri who earns a big win and for Josh who lost and is a dick.

Finally, Hiroyuki Takaya defeated Bibiano Fernandes by Unanimous Decision to become the new DREAM Featherweight Champion. Japan got what it wanted as Takaya’s father, who left Chiba for northern Hokkaido during "Streetfight Bancho’s" wild youth in order to escape his son’s criminal reputation as a motorcycle gangster, smiled as his son was announced the winner.

"Martial arts changed my life. I want to give back to the martial arts with my contribution tonight," said the new champion.

10-2 on the picks and Bob Sapp tried to renegociate his contract in the dressing rooms before his bout so of course it never happened.

DREAM Dynamite!! 2010 Picks & Prognostications

DREAM Dynamite!! 2010
December 31, 2010
Saitama Super Arena
Saitama, Japan

DREAM Heavyweight Interim Championship Bout
Alistair Overeem vs. Todd Duffee Its the battle of the ultra-buff and juiced to the 9's Heavyweights. Though everyone is expecting the "Demolition Man" to dispose of the young rook with prejudice, it is a MMA fight and anything can happen as Todd discovered in his last bout which was his 1st defeat. Duffee is a young genetic freak so who knows? He could pull off what would be a huge upset but I'm guessing he will realize his stand up skills pale in comparison to Overeem and I doubt Todd can hold him on the floor. Expect fireworks. Todd can't hang for 5 rounds and Alistair gets another belt he probably won't defend.
WINNER-Alistair Overeem by Rd.2 KO

Featherweight Champion Bibiano Fernandes vs. Hiroyuki Takaya [Rematch] The 1st meeting for the strap was razor close with Bibs winning the Split-Decision and now we are back again to settle things. "Streetfight Bancho" has been on a tear KOing Chase Beebe and Joachim in impressive but he'll be grounded and dry humped all night long. This is a coin flip.
WINNER-Hiroyuki Takaya by Decision?

Welterweight Champion Marius Zaromskis vs. Kazushi Sakuraba The "Whitemare" finally defends his belt for the 1st time this year and after losing 2 fights in the states! Saku has seen his blitzkrieg striking style before but now he is so brittle and easily damaged from years and years of abuse. This will probably get ugly quick but credit DREAM for giving their hero a shot at the ever elusive title even coming off an embarrassing loss (his 1st by submission). Wear and tear is too great but with Chuck Liddell retiring, I gotta cheer for the old guard. C'mon Sakuraba, one last chance for you to wow the world. But I doubt it.
WINNER-Marius Zaromskis by Rd.3 TKO

Shinya Aoki vs. Yuichiro Nagashim This match will rotate between K-1 rules and MMA rules so I have zero desire to try and figure it out.
WINNER-Who cares?

Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Josh Thomson Now this is a great matchup. The "Punk" on loan from Strikeforce meets the venerable "Crusher" who always falls just a tad short of the belts. I like this bout to be a little more even than most with Kawajiri holding his own just fine until the gas runs out. Thomson knows how to frustrate and tire opponents and Tats cardio won't be up to snuff.
WINNER-Josh Thomson by Decision

Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Caol Uno People are liking the car guy here but not me. Uno is looking to reclaim his respect after being less than impressive in the UFC. I just don't know if Caol has anything left to offer as his game stalled and he does not improve.
WINNER-Kazuyuki Miyata by Decision

Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Izumi Hiroshi There should never be a DREAM card without the lovable "Minowaman." I have no clue who the other guy is but DREAM likes to feed "Minowaman" so I'll stick this the super-hero mullet.
WINNER-Ikuhisa Minowa by Rd.1 Toe Hold

Hayato Sakurai vs. Jason High "Mach" is really struggling these days losing 3 in a row and beginning to show his age. The "Kansas City Bandit" is taking a giant leap up in competition though he has danced with the big promotions for a moment. Take the KC connection to pull the upset as "Mach" takes a good look at retiring.
WINNER-Jason High by Decision

Hideo Tokoro vs. Kazuhisa Watanabe Losing 6 of his last 8 and looking to take his record below .500 soon, Tokoro steps in against a pro boxer trying to make the move over to MMA. Hideo has never impressed me but surely he can G&P the newbie right?
WINNER-Hideo Tokoro by Decision

Jerome LeBanner vs. Satoshi Ishii The "I-Dash" fighter is starting to come around a bit as he now faces a giant K-1 striker. LeBanner had better land fast because he is going to be spending some time on his back.
WINNER-Satoshi Ishii by Decision

Sergei Kharitonov vs. Tatsuya Mizuno 1 fight in '09 and 1 fight in '10 and the "Moscow Mauler" is back. Once feared and respected Sergei kinda fell off the map before re-emerging with K-1 specialists Golden Glory so expect the striking skills to be solid. I'm a big fan of the heart and courage Mizuno possesses but I think he might find himself a bit out gunned here. I'm rooting for ya Tatsuya but me thinks you're in trouble.
WINNER-Sergei Kharitonov by Rd.2 TKO

IGF Rules:
Bob Sapp vs. Suzukawa Shinti Could not care less about anything the "Beast" does. He'll lose. He always does.
WINNER-Suzukawa Shinti by whatever

K-1 Kickboxing Rules:
Gegard Mousasi vs. Kyotaro
WINNER-Gegard Mousasi
Akiyo Nishiura vs. Tetsuya Yamato
WINNER-"Wicky"

CHUCK "The Iceman" LIDDELL Retires!

CHUCK "The Iceman" LIDDELL (21-8) (born December 17, 1969) officially retired December 29, 2010 from mixed martial arts. Charles (his real name) is a former Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight Champion which he successfully defended 4 times after obtaining the belt. Liddell studied for many years in various striking styles including Kenpo Karate, Koei-Kan karate and kickboxing. His kickboxing record is 20 wins and 2 losses, with 16 of his wins coming by way of knockout. He, along with Matt Hughes and Randy Couture, has the most UFC fights with 23. Chuck was one of the 1st true break-thru stars of MMA garnering a rabid fan following and exciting crowds with his in your face KO or be KO'd style.

At the press conference for UFC 125, friend Dana White gave the special moment to the "Iceman" who choked back tears as he tried to say goodbye, having to stop for a moment to collect himself. It was then that the crowd erupted in cheers for Chuck and he finally said his goodbye.

"Thank you and I love you all." - Charles
  • On July 10, 2009, he was inducted into the UFC's Hall of Fame.
  • 2006 Sherdog "Fighter Of The Year"
  • 2001 Black Belt Magazine's Competitor Of The Year
  • "Fight Of The Year" in 2008 vs Wanderlei Silva
  • All around bad ass
Chuck will continue in movies in television and as the director of business for UFC in business or whatever they called it, but we will always remember the killer who Tito feared, Randy respected, and went to war with no fear. We at MMAFO will miss you and thank you for all your efforts for the sport in and out of the ring.

Dana White Pays For Child's Liver Transplant

MMA fan Ben Pittsley from Fall River, MA called out to UFC President Dana White to help pay for the surgery of the daughter of Kru Nai of Tiger Muay Thai, who was diagnosed as needing a liver transplant, without which she was given 4 weeks to live.

Ben Pittsley posted this on the UG. "I recently visitied Tiger Muay Thai and had the experience of a lifetime, But this is not about me, this is about SAVING THE LIFE OF A 4yr OLD GIRL!!!! I had the pleasure of training with Kru Nai and meeting his family....When I returned home I learned that his daughter needs a LIVER TRANSPLANT or will die....the doctors gave 4 weeks to live.....

Please donate and help save a life

Mr. DANA WHITE,
If you are a true ambassador for the sport.....PAY FOR THIS SURGERY!!!

Three hours after the original thread was posted, a representative from the UFC, who commonly posts on the forum, stated that Dana would indeed pay the remaining funds needed for the surgery.

Saucylv33 replied on the UG that "Dana will pay for the remaining funds needed for the surgery." Saucylv33 is a UFC employee that is allowed to post and monitor on the UG. This story was again later confirmed by Ray Elbe, whom is the main MMA trainer at Tiger Muay Thai, the facility where Kru Nai is employed.

Ray Elbe's post. "Everybody Dies, but not everyone lives" "Just received confirmation that Dana White is the reason for the season. Monday morning he will be having his assistant contact Grainne Farrell of Lotus Medical to make arrangements for the payment of the Liver transplant operation."

"Amazing. DFW you have no idea how many people's prayers you answered with this random act of generosity....Dana...you have a vacation home available anytime your in Phuket. I'll even make sure Rattanachai teaches you a few Muay Thai privates ;)"

For all the heat and hell we may give Dana White, this is pretty impressive sir. Well done.

MMA Melee: "Kid" Yamamoto Signs With The UFC & Royce Gracie To Fight?

Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto has finally signed with the UFC! After years and years of Urijah Faber calling him out and MMA's hardcore fans screaming for an American appearance, the Japanese superstar will meet Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in a Bantamweight fight. It is probably for UFC 126 in Las Vegas. "Kid" was once considered the best Featherweight fighter though he lost 2 in a row for the 1st time in his career before his last bout which was a KO victory. UFC president Dana White confirmed Yamamoto’s signing on Twitter.

UFC president Dana White has said that Roy Nelson (15-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is currently contractually bound to another fight promotion. Roy Jones Jr.'s Square Ring Promotions claims to have Nelson tied down. "Big Country" headlined a MMA/boxing card called "March Badness" and lost to Jeff Monson via Unanimous Decision. Then, Nelson joined the cast of "The Ultimate Fighter 10" and won the whole thing including a highly rated victory over Kimbo Slice. The heavy heavyweight then KO'd Stefan Struve but lost to Junior Dos Santos via Unanimous Decision. Now lawyers are scrambling to find a solution which will most likely be a financial settlement.

Tito Ortiz actually acted like a man for once and went to Dana White asking for “1 more chance.” in the UFC. BLAF has granted the request and Tito will be destroyed by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Ultimate Fight Night 24. I hate Frito but actually give him props for handling himself like a man which he usually leaves to Jenna.

With the UFC returning to Brazil August 27th, in people are already lining up opponents for Royce Gracie though he is not officially signed to fight on the card as of yet. The likes of Roy Jones Jr., James Toney, Matt Hughes, Kazushi Sakuraba, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and dear god Ken Shamrock have all been rumored as "interesting" to Royce.

The UFC cut list just keeps getting longer in these oh so competitive days. Dustin "McLovin" Hazelett was dropped after losing 3 tough fights in a row. It's a shame but Dusty is just getting his feet wet as a Lightweight and better days lay ahead.

Strikeforce is also trimming their roster releasing Joe Riggs and Joey Villasenor. "Diesel" actually won his last fight for Strikeforce in August and another for King Of The Cage. "Smokin" lost in May and was allowed to fight in Shark Fights where he lost again and now won't be offered a contract.

WEC 53 Results: A New Champion Crowned & The Move Of The Year!

Renan do Nascimento Mota Pegado wins "Name Of The Night" and snares Chris Cariaso with the RNC in the 1st round which is about to start a trend.

Yuri Alcantara KO'd Ricardo Lamas also in the 1st round. Yuri lands a devastating overhand right and Lorenzo Lamas' kid is out for the count!

Danny Castillo KO's Will Kerr in the 1st round! Mark Kerr's youngin' wanted a ground affair but "Headband" just stacked him up and pounded him out.

Eddie Wineland slams Ken Stone into KO land in the, you guessed it, 1st round. Stone had a triangle choke on Ed, but Wineland just lifted him up against the cage and slammed him into the mat just like Quinton Jackson did to Ricardo Arona. If you didn't see it you should look it up.
"KO Of The Night"

Brad Pickett gains the Unanimous Decision victory over veteran Ivan Menjivar.

Shane Roller pulls the Upset on Jamie Varner tapping him with the RNC in the 1st round (5 1st round finishes for the WEC on their final night). "C-4" acted calm and relaxed with Roller latched onto his back. Then Varner decided to slam his opponent only allowing Shane to lock in the move deeper and get himself a big win.
"Submission Of The Night"

Daniel Downes defeats China's Tie Quan Zhang by Unanimous Decision.

Kamal Shalorus fought a gritty close war with Bart Palaszewski but came away with the Split-Decision victory. Kamal did gas out as expected but he had a lead and powered through to the end. "Bartimus" fought hard, but lost this fight and hopefully
both men make it onto the UFC roster.

Donald Cerrone submits Chris Horodecki by Triangle Choke in the 2nd round. The baby faced Cherub held his own early in the contest and then it seemed the "Cowboy" grew tired of the game and went to work.

Dominick Cruz retains his Bantamweight title by Unanimous Decision over Scott Jorgensen. I was really hoping the "Vitiligo Warrior" would have a better showing, but it happened pretty much as expected. Now maybe we'll get Cruz and Urijah Faber on TUF 13.

Anthony Pettis shocks the world by defeating Benson Henderson by Unanimous Decision and delivering the highlight reel MMA move that was the proper send off for the WEC. Ben controlled the fight early but it was like Tony didn't realize he didn't belong at this level. Slowly but surely, Pettis began going move for move with Henderson and making things very close going into the final round. For the final minute and a half, it was "Showtime" as Anthony ran full speed and lept up the cage wall kicking off with his right leg, and then in mid-air, landed a flush head kick that dropped Ben to the mat. Pettis swarms but can't put him away. Its a sweep for the new Lightweight Champion who is set to meet the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard!
"Fight Of The Night"

8-3 on the picks.

The Final WEC (53) Picks & Prognostications

WEC 53: Henderson vs. Pettis
December 16, 2010
Jobing.com Arena
Glendale, Arizona

Main Bouts (On Versus):
Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson (12-1) vs. Anthony Pettis (12-1) I'm very happy the good guy who impressed on "World Of Jenks" is getting his title shot, but Henderson's wrestling and MMA IQ are going to be hard to overcome. Ben may catch Tony in a submission, but my guess is and entertaining 25 minute war.
WINNER-Ben Henderson by Decision

Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz (16-1) vs. Scott Jorgensen (11-3) One of my unheralded favorites, the "Vitiligo Warrior" comes in for his 1st title shot against the dancing and quite boring Champion Cruz. All that being said, Scott won't be able to catch the Champ who won't stand still and darts in and out garnering points and boo's from the crowd.
WINNER-Dominick Cruz by Decision

Donald Cerrone (12-3) vs. Chris Horodecki (16-2) The "Cowboy" meets the "Cherub" as Don goes on to the UFC, and Chris returns to winning on the minor circuit. Cerrone can put Chris on his back at will while Horodecki is going to need his big power to hit a home run.
WINNER-Don Cerrone by Decision

Bart Palaszewski (35-13) vs. Kamal Shalorus (6-0-2) The "Prince Of Persia" got jobbed in his WEC debut (and for the 2nd time in his career) "Bartimus" is making his last run at a title. I like Bart's improvement and grittiness but Kamal is just better in every category and can finish fights much easier.
WINNER-Kamal Shalorus by Decision

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Danny Downes (6-1) vs. Tie Quan Zhang (12-0) The "Mongolian BBQ" returns from China to tap "Danny Boy" who tried to stay on his feet and failed.
WINNER-Tiequan Zhang by Rd.2 Submission

Jamie Varner (16-4-1) vs. Shane Roller (8-3) "C-4" has fallen on hard times losing the belt, being relegated to the undercard, and shattering bones if the breeze blows. In fights he is a tough as they come and his skill set is more advanced and tighter than Shane's.
WINNER-Jaime Varner by Rd.2 Submission

Brad Pickett (19-5) vs. Ivan Menjivar (21-7) As a longtime fan of the "Pikey," I'll stay with the Brit to hurt the formerly great Ivan who scrapped his MMA career for 4 years before returning in June of this year. Menjivar was a great fighter but the layoff and coming in against a top tier guy who has been in the top of the heap for the last few years, it doesn't look good. My guess is "1-Punch" uses the old bare knuckle boxing keeping Ivan away before he gets gassed and then the hurting starts.
WINNER-Brad Pickett by Decision

Eddie Wineland (17-6-1) vs. Ken Stone (9-1) Its the cagey veteran versus the young upstart as the exploding ear of Eddie meets the new ATT member. I like the older man to frustrate Stone but expect good things from Ken as he grows.
WINNER-Eddie Wineland by Decision

Danny Castillo (9-3) vs. Will Kerr (9-2) The "Headband" is better than he has fought recently (lost 2 of 3) while Will is hurtable and greener.
WINNER-Dan Castillo by Rd.3 TKO

Ricardo Lamas (9-1) vs. Yuri Alcantara (20-3) Yuri has been padding his record in Jungle Fight for years but now he comes into the big time. Ricardo will probably press the fight as most of this takes place on the feet.
WINNER-Yuri Alcantara by Decision

Chris Cariaso (10-1) vs. Renan Barao (23-1) Some real killer records here and I know not much else.
WINNER-Renan Barao?

UFC 124 Results: GSP Victorious Along With Struve & Miller

John Makdessi defeats Pat Audinwood by Unanimous Decision.

Ricardo Almeida defeats T.J. Grant by Unanimous Decision in a lackluster affair.

Sean Pierson defeats Matt Riddle by Unanimous Decision after a 3 round war. Both men just threw for the fences and at the end of the fight, the Canadian crowd gave both men a standing ovation! "Fight Of The Night"

Rafael Natal and Jesse Bongfeldt fight to a Draw. Nobody likes a draw and nobody will like the lack of effort given by these men tonight.

Mark Bocek punks poor Dustin Hazelett with a spectacular Triangle Choke Submission. "McLovin" defended well on the floor but Bocek deftly put on the Triangle from the top position and then brought the elbows for extra fun. Hazelett taps and unfortunately may get the pink slip after 3 losses in a row. "Submission Of The Night"

Dan Miller defeats the always game Joe Doerksen by Split-Decision. I tell ya "El Dirte" never says die and hung with the youngster as long as he could but the judges had to have their say.

Thiago Alves defeats John Howard by Unanimous Decision. "Doomsday" just isn't ready for this level of competition and the "Pitbull" uses his patented leg kicks and dominant striking to hurt John though unable to put him away.

Mac Danzig KO's Joe Stevenson with a perfectly timed counter left hand in the 1st round. "Daddy" shocked me with this loss to an I believe inferior opponent, as Danzig who had lost 4 of his last 5, gets a huge win for his career. "KO Of The Night"
* Mac would be well served to drop to Featherweight while Joe "Daddy" owes me some money and has to take a long look at his career.

Jim Miller defeats Charles Oliveira by Kneebar Submission to ruin "Do Bronx's" perfect record and score a big needed stoppage victory. Charles had the momentum coming into the contest and jumped all over Jim early. The Brazilian went for the leg but Miller countered with the underutilized in MMA kneebar, shocking Charles who taps out.
* Whats a guy got to do to earn a title shot around here? That may have been it. There is a lot of talent at the top of the division and with the mini-tournament giving us much needed clarity, so we will wait before we match-make with Miller.

Stefan Struve shuts up Sean McCorkle by TKO in the 1st round. "Big Sexy" had the advantage early but "Skyscraper" reversed position getting full mount on Sean who came close to securing his deadly Kimura again. From mount Struve just unloaded leaving McCorkle with a blood nose and to be saved by the referee.
* Dominant performance from the youngster and you have to question McCorkle's ability to hang in the Heavyweight division. Make a sky is the limit joke for Stefan and perhaps a meeting with Cheick Kongo will be next.

Georges St. Pierre steamrolls Josh Koscheck for 5 rounds to win via Unanimous Decision. It was a 1-sided affair as GSP used his left jab to close Koscheck's left eye and breaking his orbital bone. "Kos" showed real toughness as the doctor did want to stop the fight between the 3rd and 4th rounds but he soldiered on. The crowd was entertaining as well chanting soccer cheers and cheering their hero. At the end of the final round, the Montreal crowd began to chant, "Na na na na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye." Classic stuff as the villian gets defeated in front of GSP's homeland.
* Jake Shields is next for GSP and knock off the Middleweight and Anderson Silva talk, its not going to happen right now. Koscheck opens up a spot for Jon Fitch (if he defeats BJ Penn) to move in for a future title shot since he doesn't have to go to Middleweight to avoid fighting his friend.

An abysmal 5-5 on the picks to end the year.

Alistair Overeem 2010 K-1 Grand Prix Champion

Alistair Overeem (10-4 K-1) has become the 1st MMA champion to also be crowned the K-1 World Grand Prix champion, after he defeated fellow Dutchman Peter Aerts to win the title in Japan.

It has long been a dream of the "Demolition Man" to win the greatest kickboxing tournament in the world. Hailing from the legendary line of Dutch kickboxers, Alistair pursued his dream for 11 long years while simultaneously competing in MMA bouts including becoming the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion.

At the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix Finals, Overeem rattled off 3 consecutive victories, the final being the TKO win over Peter Aerts.

In the finals, an even more yoked than normals Overeem simply overwhelmed Aerts, who had taken some serious shots earlier in the night in his battle with 2009 Grand Prix champion Semmy Schilt. Alistair just dominated the older warrior with crushing body shots and dropped him with clubbing head shots before the referee saved Peter.

“I hope you enjoyed tonight, I hope you loved the fights, I gave 100%, and I love you Japanese fans,” Overeem said in celebration.

UFC 124 GSP vs Koscheck in Montreal, Quebec, Canada!

UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck
December 11, 2010
Bell Centre
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Main Bouts (PPV):
Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre (20-2) vs. Josh Koscheck (15-4) [Rematch] GSP looked jacked up and confident at the weigh-ins while "Kos" just smirked and toyed with the fans. We know GSP is better than Koscheck in every area but that doesn't mean Josh is not a well-rounded always dangerous fighter. I think GSP will want to trade with Josh on the feet since he already defeated him via wrestling. Koscheck will eventually realize he bit off a bit more than he can chew as "Rush" wears him down before the eventual "matte." I am worried that the curse of GSP training with Freddie Roach might rear its head.
WINNER-GSP by Rd.3 TKO

Stefan Struve (20-4) vs. Sean McCorkle (10-0) The inch by inch tallest combined UFC fight of all time! Also the lamest Co-Main Event of all time! How's that for odd unimportant facts? These 2 had a hilarious back and forth trash talk affair on the Internet ending with "Big Sexy" wearing a red women's whig at the weigh-ins but with Sean what do you expect? I look for a "gong & dash" opening with the always hittable Struve taking some dirty boxing punishment before getting put down for good. Stefan has far more tools and no idea how to bring them to the table correctly.
UPSET WINNER-Sean McCorkle by Rd.2 TKO

Jim Miller (18-2) vs. Charles Oliveira (14-0) Possibly the toughest fight on the card to pick. Miller could stifle the creative "Do Bronx" into a defensive loss. However, the kid is so inventive with his offense and amazing Jiu-Jitsu may surprise Miller who lasts but loses.
WINNER-Charles Oliveira by Decision

Joe Stevenson (31-11) vs. Mac Danzig (19-8-1) When the "Daddy"loses, it comes from people who just overwhelm and out work him. The "Vegan Warrior" isn't going to do either and I believe Joe is just better at every area and has fared better at a higher level. Stevenson uses his power to bully Mac before taking him down and dropping brutal elbows.
WINNER- Joe "Daddy" by Destruction

Thiago Alves (17-7) vs. John Howard (14-4) The "Pitbull" easily made weight wearing a "Dolce Diet" T-shirt to boast his confidence in the normally shaky area. "Doomsday" is a scary striker but Alves is going bring the leg kicks non-stop cutting the Bostonian down before an eventual G&P out.
WINNER-Thiago Alves by Rd.2 TKO

Prelims (FREE On www.ufc.com LIVE):
Dustin Hazelett (12-6) vs. Mark Bocek (8-3) "McLovin" is back now at Lightweight looking to rebound to back to back losses. Boceck is the quiet Ginger whose UFC losses have come to only the top talent but he doesn't wow you anywhere. Hazelett has very slick submissions, perhaps better stand up, and a crazy reach advantage. Maybe I'm picking with my heart a bit here but I'll ride with Dustin out American the Canadian.
UPSET WINNER-Dustin Hazelett by Decision

Dan Miller (12-4) vs. Joe Doerksen (46-13) I'd love to see this bout a few years ago when "El Dirte" had not been worn down by age and wars. Dan is going to be the better grappler but look for him to surprise Joe on the feet working on his striking against a man who can't hurt him on the feet. Wearing Doerkson down is key before Miller clamps on a night ending choke.
WINNER-Dan Miller by Rd.3 Submission

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Rafael Natal (12-3) vs. Jesse Bongfeldt (21-7) "Water Bong" makes his UFC debut against "Sapo" who was less than impressive in his last bout/loss. Staying on the feet Jesse should hold court even if he doesn't get a stoppage. The year long layoff for "Water" does worry me a bit.
UPSET WINNER-Jesse Bongfeldt by Decision

Matt Riddle (5-1) vs. Sean Pierson (10-4) I like the indoor shades wearing Sean to perhaps pull a bit of an upset here. Pierson can hold his own wrestling and stuff the takedown though I hate to pick the debut guy. Sean has to represent for Canada eh?
UPSET WINNER-Sean Pierson by Decision

Ricardo Almeida (12-4) vs. T.J. Grant (16-4) "Big Dog" looks to rebound from the ass-kicking Matt Hughes gave him against the solid TJ. Grant flies under the radar but he is a solid wrestler against a Jiu-Jitsu expert who sucks at the takedown. TJ can bang him enough to win the feet and win by points.
UPSET WINNER- TJ Grant by Decision

John Makdessi (7-0) vs. Pat Audinwood (9-1-1) This could be a closer fight than people are expecting but Pat has the UFC jitters gone and takes his ground affair against a "come right at ya" striker. The "Bull" has not faced anyone of note but looks good enough to be "Awesomely Awesomer" than Patty.
UPSET WINNER-John Makdessi by Rd.2 TKO
