MMA News Roundup 8-19-06

HUGE BAD NEWS! George St. Pierre has injured his elbow badly and is most likely out of the upcoming title fight with Matt Hughes! This is terrible as many were looking forward to this being the fight of the year. The fight has been taken off many gambling sites an a cancellation is to be announced soon. Look for BJ Penn to possibly get the title shot instead (as he already beat Matt once for the title).

Ssirum star Lee Tae-Hyun has been signed as a heavyweight with Pride FC. Lee is a rival of K-1 star Hong Man Choi, another former Ssirum fighter. Ssirum is a Korean fighting style similar to Sumo and Judo wrestling. Lee is a widely respected fighter who held all the top titles in Ssirum combat.

Brock Lesnar has now teamed up with legend Royce Gracie to learn ju-jitsu. K-1 reportedly put them together and we shall see if this is window dressing or real training.

Shonie Carter defeated Rich Clementi by decision on the 1st episode of the Ultimate Fighter 4. Thank god considering how hilarious, entertaining, and important, Shonie is to the show.

September 2nd, Robbie Lawler will put his Icon Sport Title on the line against Mayhem Miller. This bout was supposed to happen last year, but Mayhem was arrested and suspended causing the fight to be cancelled. This should be a real entertaining battle in Hawaii.

Evander "Holy Shit Is He Fighting Again" Holyfield successfully returned to boxing after almost two years, with a KO win over journeyman Jeremy Bates. We can all look forward to Evander getting back in the ultra-lame heavyweight title hunt and then dying in the ring.

And finally, congratulations to new dad Caol Uno who just welcomed his two twin boys to the world.
