MMA legend, hall of famer, pioneer, hero, Royce Gracie has tested positive for Nandrolone a common steroid. Royce has until July 13th to appeal his suspension which goes until the end of May 2008! Royce tested positive after his recent rematch with Sakuraba which he won on decision.
It is just stunning as Royce has always been a man of character and for him to do something so stupid that will ruin him in the eyes of many fans and tarnish his legacy. Royce had to know he would test positive as the California Athletic Commission tests very stringently for drugs of all types. Former Pro Football player Jonnie Morton who made his MMA debut at the same K-1 event that Gracie fought in, also has tested positive after he was KO'd in only 33 seconds.
I have yet to hear a valid excuse for using steroids in sports, and I highly doubt this situation will provide one. The only certain thing right now, is that Royce has a lot of explaining to do, and it probably won't be enough to satisfy anyone.
