MMA On The Fringe #2 Gegard Mousasi

In our 2nd installment of "MMA On The Fringe" which takes a look at up and coming fighters who may someday be major players, we take a closer look at Gegard Mousasi. Gegard's record is currently 20-2-1 with 13 coming by way of (T)KO ( his specialty) and coming off a KO win at the most recent M-1 Slamm show in Russia. Though he has yet to face any real top tier opponents, Gegard has been destroying people with his devastating kickboxing style a la Cro Cop only at Middleweight (185 lbs.) Mousasi is Armenian but has trained with crews in Holland which esplains his love of the stand up. A very humble and respectful fighter, he lists Fedor Emelianenko and Ikuhisa "Punk" Minowa as his heroes for their respectfulness and generosity.

The soft spoken fighter would like to move up in weight to at least Light Heavyweight, but his next at bat will be with DREAM 2 Middleweight Grand Prix April 29th against Denis Kang. A tough draw for sure as Kang can floor battle and probably submit Gegard, but this young prospect is learning the ground game (with 6 submission wins) and has the power to knock anyone out before the fight goes very far. Even if he fails against Kang, this young fighter has a very bright future and is already enjoying a cult following of his exciting and brutal fights. DREAM will now provide him his biggest exposure to date, and his toughest opponent. The future is bright for this improving striker to make an impact on the MMA scene.
