UFC 87 Results

Georges "Rush" St.Pierre successfully defended his Welterweight belt claiming a 50-45, 5-round unanimous decision from Jon "Takes A Licking But Keeps On Ticking" Fitch. GSP immediately took Jon down showing his lack of fear for the best wrestlers in the UFC (he also out wrestled Josh Koscheck & Matt Hughes). Back on the feet, GSP rocked Fitch immediately but Jon held on for dear life taking serious punishment and survived a disastrous round. He took 2 straight minutes of beating and still survived! Round dos they traded on the feet as GSP's left jab consistently found its mark and picked away at the challenger. Start the 3rd and Fitch is knocked down again by a straight right hand but amazingly Fitch again survived getting back to his feet with a bloody and badly bruised face. The rest of the rounds were just continual technical brilliance from GSP who won every round in route to his newest title defense.

After the fight when Joe Rogan was asking him who he'd fight next, Mr. BJ Penn came flying into the Octagon saying he wanted the fight and 2 belts in 2 weight classes. GSP responded, “I’m ready to fight everybody, everybody who deserves a shot. I know B.J. Penn wants it, and I’m ready to do it. Whoever they give me, I’ll do it. He deserves it.” Sounds like a good plan to me considering.......

Kenny Florian used his game plan and technical superiority to out gun Roger Huerta to another lop-sided decision. Kenflo had the rhythm of a Samurai as he put together a solid though not always exciting win in the books. Roger Huerta looked stunned at the end of the fight and completely unsure as to what is next. Now the "he's overrated" whisperings are going to full press. Kenny probably won't get a title shot with BJ with the whole GSP thing and will instead fight around December against another as yet unnamed tough opponent.

Jason MacDonald and Demian Maia had an amazing ground war that actually had so much action, near submissions, and shocking reversals of fortune, that the idiotic Minnesotan crowd seemed to enjoy the Jiu-Jitsu show. As Maia tired and Jason survived countless near death chokes, it could have gone either way, but in the final round Demian's artist like Jiu-Jitsu held true for a Lion Choke submission finish. Would have been "Fight Of The Night" if not for the great main event.

Yes Brock Lesnar fought and defeated Heath Herring and knocked him across the Octagon with one punch at the beginning, but what else did he do? He looked lost on the ground not knowing what he should do, and happy with moving enough that the fight didn't get stood up, and he could simply smother Herring into oblivion. He could've (should've) ended the fight if someone had taught him the basics (ie guillotine & rear naked choke) but either he forgot, or has absolutely nothing but his wrestling which was, at least this night, unstoppable. Then after the win Brock was able to act like an ass showing up Herring by acting as though he had caught him on a fishing line and using lame catchphrases in his speech like he was still in the WWE. The guy is a jerk and will probably fight Cheick Kongo who KO'd some old Norwegian guy.

Ben Saunders got a win and I like that guy a lot, while Rob Emerson pulled an upset over Manvel Gamburyan who came running into Rob's reach and was KO'd in a pathetic 12 seconds! Tamdan McCrory also got an upset win (I picked) over Weezer's Luke Cummo in the "Nerd War." Jon Jones and Chris Wilson also won and I will let you know if that ever matters.

I was able to defeat Judge Joe in the UFC Picks arena with 8 correct picks out of 10 total fights while Judge Joe came in with a measly 4 correct. I have witnesses for my picks even though they were not posted before the event so just sit on it. Fitch is an amazing fighter who will be back better, but damn GSP is just that good and destroyed poor Jon's face. Fuck you Brock.
