Legend Helio Gracie Dead At 95

In the early morning of January 29th, Helio Gracie passed from this world into the next. The legendary inventor of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu died in his sleep at the age of 95.

Helio Gracie created the art of Jiu-Jitsu after training in Judo and deciding the technique took to much power for smaller individuals to execute properly. He then began a lifetime of developing the "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu" style. Focusing on ground fighting, grappling, and submission maneuvers, Jiu-Jitsu used leverage and technique to allow weaker people to defend themselves, or execute the art for victory in free fight competitions. Helio also believed that Jiu-Jitsu inspired self-confidence and physical fitness.

Helio was the only living 10th degree Jiu-Jitsu master changed the art of free fighting forever.

The patriarch of the legendary Gracie family, is survived by his wife Vera, sons Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin, and Rorion, as well as seven siblings.
