UFC 110 Results From Australia: The Old Pride FC Guard & Mr. Sotiropoulos

UFC 110 Results
James Te Huna makes a successful UFC debut by getting the TKO win over Igor Pokrajac. Te Huna got dropped immediately in the 1st but recovered quickly only to fall to the mat again in the 2nd. Both men were unloading big punches but it was James strength that led to multiple slams and takedowns where he powered through some G&P forcing the ref to halt the spirited contest at the 3:26 mark.

CB Dolloway just won’t go away as he gets the judges nod over Goran Reljic. That’s enough of that.

Chris Lytle hurt Brian Foster with a left hand and latches on to a kneebar that was grotesque. Foster got a big slam early and threw some entertaining kicks that didn’t land. Chris rolls for a beautiful kneebar that blows out Brian’s knee. Poor wrestlers just can’t deal with those leglocks and Foster is hurt bad. Impressive “Submission Of The Night” and the fireman is back.

Stephan Bonnar vs Krzysztof Soszynski
Rd.1 Krzysztof goes for the bum rush early and gets eye poked but the referee misses it and compels them to fight on. The pollock is winning the stand up early but Stephan gets a takedown. Krzys gets up but Bonnar is game with some dirty boxing. The left may have broken Bonnar’s nose but a damn close round. 10-9 Soszynski
Rd.2 These guys start getting down with some gritty in close dirty boxing and Stephan a bit more active. Really brutal round and both men are entertaining and marked up. 10-9 Bonnar
Rd.3 Bonnar is cut immediately and the blood is a river! Stephan is fighting on but the blood is a steady stream. Damn it was a headbutt and the doctor stops what was becoming an excellent fight. The referee says it was a punch not headbutt though he is wrong.
*TKO win via cut which is my least favorite fight ender. I likes me some Krzysztof who admits it was an accidental headbutt not a punch. We needs a rematch here.

Mirko Cro Cop vs Anthony Perosh
*You can just see Filipovic looks like he wants to be here and wants to fight from the outset. He looks absolutley huge but the “Hippo” was in training and ready for the opportunity.
Rd.1 Cro Cop looks hungry early throwing a little wild but when they land the thud echos in the arena. The sprawl is beautiful and Perosh can’t take down Mirko while he absorbs steady punishment via straight punches. The round ends with “Hippo” bloodied and on his back praying Cro Cop decides to make it a Jiu-Jitsu tournament. 10-9 Cro Cop
Rd.2 Mirko is holding down Tony after a picture perfect sprawl and punishing Perosh like he’s the little brother. Cro Cop’s striking looks the same but his confidence looks high. Some G&P from guard and Perosh is cut from a huge left elbow and the blood is everywhere. The doctors check the cut and Anthony is gushing blood with a swollen left eye as well. The doctors say he can continue and the crowd responds to his courage. Sprawl again and Cro Cop is landing devastating left hands. Mirko turning it up a notch and if there had been a few more seconds, Tony would’ve been outta there. 10-9 Cro Cop
*The doctors call a halt to the fight after the end of the 2nd saving Anthony from a “living death!” Filipovic looks confident and even spoke clearly on the mic giving Perosh credit for his courage to step in at the last minute and the crowd cheers.

Keith Jardine
vs Ryan Bader
*The “Dean” came out to Everlast’s blasphemous cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” which contains a sound clip of “Jump Around” by House Of Pain. Keith should lose on that decision alone.
Rd.1 Both men get after it early trying out combinations. Jardine is taken down and has a cut on the top of the head. Bader controls but does little until the ref stands them up 30 seconds before the end of the round. 10-9 Bader
Rd.2 They grapple early and Keith’s takedown defense is showing up well. Jardine is so odd looking it should be noted he wanted to go back to his old style citing his new “orthodox” style as too constricting. Guess I missed whenever that happened. A takdeown late and aggression give Ryan the lackluster round. 10-9 Bader
Rd.3 Bader looks a bit winded but takes down Jardine who gets right back up. Ryan wobbles Keith with a right hand and follows it with a high knee. Then he lands a thunderous left that shatters Jardine’s glass jaw. KO win splits the “Dean’s” legs much like when Lyoto Machida put out teammate Rashad Evans.
*Jardine looks shocked by the stoppage but that is probably because he has no idea what happened. You committed music heresy, that’s what happened.

Joe Stevenson vs George Sotiropoulos
*George enters to Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” and the place erupts for the hometown boy.
Rd.1 Sotir looks very focused as the crowd does some “aussie” chants. They lock up and George lands on top. Joe holds on for dear life and George can’t advance his position. Hammer fists to the body but then George takes a heel kick. Sotir avoids an arm triangle and then takes full mount as the crowd cheers. Kimura to armbar and Sotir is all over “Daddy.” 10-9 Sotiropoulos
Rd.2 The crowd is chanting super-loud as we begin and George rocks him with a left for a flash knockdown which Joe immediately recovers from. Sotir is winning the striking game until “Daddy” slams him to the floor. George traps the arm for an oma plata then to side control and Joe looks confused. Sotir tries an armbar and is just going move to move in impressive fashion. Stevenson drops for an ankle lock but George finds his way out securing an anaconda choke as time expires. How many different submission attempts did the Aussie throw up? 10-9 Sotiropoulos
Rd.3 The crowd is bananas as George confounds Stevenson on the feet. Sotir catches a kick and takes him down but can’t hold him. Joe checks the clock knowing he must stop the man to win. “Daddy” works top control but can’t execute anything as George gets up. This place is going to explode when he wins. Takedown by Stevenson but the defense is solid and George is going to pull the big upset in his home country for the biggest win of his career! 10-9 Stevenson
Official Judges Score 30-27 Sotiropoulos
*”Fight Of The Night” and Joe got up and ran around with his hand up which was almost comical if it wasn’t sad.

Wanderlei Silva vs Michael Bisping
*Interesting very little has been said about the fact Quinton Jackson has been training with the “Count” for this battle. “Rampage” and the “Axe Murderer” know each other very well and that could be a secret weapon. Wand looks very thin at Middleweight and a bit like Josh Burkman. The facial reconstruction and weight cut have Silva looking odd.
Rd.1 Bisping takes down Wand twice but he gets back up twice. Mike gets a takedown again but again Wand is up. Silva is missing but looks very calm. Wand finally unloads a bit and Bisping calls him on. Mike lands on Wand who is cut on the chin. Mike has learned to circle away from the right hand which is adorable and I’m sure Dan Henderson is smiling somewhere. Wand lands a left hand Bisping a bit but the round ends. 10-9 Bisping
Rd.2 Wand catches a kick and sweeps the “Count” to the floor. Body kick as Mike stands from Wand who lands a couple of looping rights. Bisping slams Silva down but you can’t hold him there! Leg kicks but Mike is checking them and goes for the takedown where Wand pulls guard putting everything into a guillotine but can’t finish it. 10-9 Silva
Rd.3 They trade a bit and Bisping lands a solid shot to the pills and Wand shakes it out making everyone a bit uncomfortable at the jiggle motion. Crowd chants for “Silva” who motions for more. Wands takedown defense is on now but Mike pokes his eye and acts like he has no idea what happened. Wanderlei explodes at the final 10 second knock and Bisping gets dropped after the melee! It was a haymaker right hand that dropped the “Count” and Silva wanted to start the soccer kicks but pulls up remembering those pesky rules. 10-9 Silva
Official Judges Score 29-28 Silva
*Bisping is pissed at the result but they show each other respect. Joe is asking about how Wand breathes now with the surgery and he replies, “I look pretty now.” causing the crowd to laugh.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cain Velasquez
*Mariachi music will never get me excited. No one cares but I’m just saying Cain, I feel like a Tequila shot now. “Big Nog” enters to the Rolling Stone’s “Gimme Shelter” and that’s my cut homie.
Rd.1 Both monsters bull forward and Cain looks just as comfortable on the feet and is getting in a bit more. A right hand stuns Nogueira and then Cain pounces on him until he is unconscious. “Minotoro” wants to keep fighting but cannot. Left chin, right chin, left temple, and the G&P ends it all. There is zero defense on the floor Cain looks super scary and how can he not be the #1 contender now? "Knockout Of The Night!"

7-2 on a very tight PPV card. You're welcome Australia we'll see ya next year.
