WEC 52 Results: California Love

Yves Jabouin bested Brandon Visher by Decision.

Cub Swanson defeats Mackens Semerzier by Split Decision in a very entertaining bout. Both men came out in a rampage throwing a bevy of offensive attacks. There were spinning back fists, slams, big punches, takedowns with great scrambles, flying knees, arm triangle attempts, and even the kitchen sink. It was a great war with Mackens coming on very strong in the final round, but in my most humble and correct opinion, Cub had already won the fight in the 1st 2 rounds. Everyone should enjoy watching this war. [MMAFO 29-28 Swanson] "Fight Of The Night"

Michael McDonald slapped an Armbar on Clint Godfrey for the submission win.

Dustin Poirier TKO'd Zachary Micklewright only 0:53 into round 1.

Anthony Njokuani gets back to form with the rare elbow TKO on Edward Faaloloto in the 2nd round.

Raphael Assuncao defeated L.C. Davis by Decision.

Demetrious Johnson beats Damacio Page via Guillotine Choke. Page started strong nailing 2 throws and a big slam in the 1st. In the 2nd, Johnson landed a big chin infused kick to the pills dropping Damacio who would need the full 5 minutes to recover. Johnson got the takedown and began really bothering the "Angel Of Death." For the final round, Demetrious landed a hard kick and followed it up with elbows from side guard. Johnson then snuck up and secured the ultra tight choke forcing the tap. Johnson is actually a 125 lb. fighter, but with no division in the WEC (or UFC) he fights here and gains the big upset win. Joseph Benavidez taps Jiu-Jitsu ace Wagnney Fabiano with Guillotine Choke. Joey is so small its adorable to watch this little wolverine. Granted, he needs a step stool to reach you on the feet, but if he takes you down, his core strength comes into play and he manhandles people as Wagnney found out.

Erik Koch landed a big head kick on Francisco Rivera which dropped him to the mat for a couple of exclamation point strikes. The TKO win was big for mean faced Koch who is most likely nearing that inevitable title shot. "(T)KO Of The Night"

Chad Mendes defeats a valiant Javier Vazquez by Decision. Everyone is talking about how 1 dimensional Mendes is, but the wrestling is ingrained in his head and he just can't help himself. Sherdog's favorite fighter fought most of the initial round off his back working rubber guard and short hard strikes while Chad looked for positions and little else. Mendes came out with a flying knee for the 2nd and then we went back to the floor as always. Then, inexplicably, Chad front flipped and landed on Javier though the ensuing scramble saw things end up the same. Then more wrestling and the crowd begins the "boring, boring" chants in the background. Mendes wins the bout on the cards and doesn't get an interview after because nobody cares. Urijah Faber makes a successful Bantamweight debut by putting Takeya Mizugaki to sleep with the RNC in round 1. The "California Kid" looked very confident coming in but the "Miz" was ready going punch for punch with the former Featherweight champion. The always speedy and creative Faber jumped on Mizugaki's back and drug him to the floor. Takeya defended well but eventually Urijah found his choke though the brave Japanese fighter did not tap and instead lost consciousness. Faber looks right at home at 135 lbs. He's even faster and now stronger than most opponents. Along with his wicked training partners at Team Alpha Male (who ran the "hat trick" tonight), I see's gold in the future.

8-3 on the picks.
