WEC 53 Results: A New Champion Crowned & The Move Of The Year!

Renan do Nascimento Mota Pegado wins "Name Of The Night" and snares Chris Cariaso with the RNC in the 1st round which is about to start a trend.

Yuri Alcantara KO'd Ricardo Lamas also in the 1st round. Yuri lands a devastating overhand right and Lorenzo Lamas' kid is out for the count!

Danny Castillo KO's Will Kerr in the 1st round! Mark Kerr's youngin' wanted a ground affair but "Headband" just stacked him up and pounded him out.

Eddie Wineland slams Ken Stone into KO land in the, you guessed it, 1st round. Stone had a triangle choke on Ed, but Wineland just lifted him up against the cage and slammed him into the mat just like Quinton Jackson did to Ricardo Arona. If you didn't see it you should look it up.
"KO Of The Night"

Brad Pickett gains the Unanimous Decision victory over veteran Ivan Menjivar.

Shane Roller pulls the Upset on Jamie Varner tapping him with the RNC in the 1st round (5 1st round finishes for the WEC on their final night). "C-4" acted calm and relaxed with Roller latched onto his back. Then Varner decided to slam his opponent only allowing Shane to lock in the move deeper and get himself a big win.
"Submission Of The Night"

Daniel Downes defeats China's Tie Quan Zhang by Unanimous Decision.

Kamal Shalorus fought a gritty close war with Bart Palaszewski but came away with the Split-Decision victory. Kamal did gas out as expected but he had a lead and powered through to the end. "Bartimus" fought hard, but lost this fight and hopefully
both men make it onto the UFC roster.

Donald Cerrone submits Chris Horodecki by Triangle Choke in the 2nd round. The baby faced Cherub held his own early in the contest and then it seemed the "Cowboy" grew tired of the game and went to work.

Dominick Cruz retains his Bantamweight title by Unanimous Decision over Scott Jorgensen. I was really hoping the "Vitiligo Warrior" would have a better showing, but it happened pretty much as expected. Now maybe we'll get Cruz and Urijah Faber on TUF 13.

Anthony Pettis shocks the world by defeating Benson Henderson by Unanimous Decision and delivering the highlight reel MMA move that was the proper send off for the WEC. Ben controlled the fight early but it was like Tony didn't realize he didn't belong at this level. Slowly but surely, Pettis began going move for move with Henderson and making things very close going into the final round. For the final minute and a half, it was "Showtime" as Anthony ran full speed and lept up the cage wall kicking off with his right leg, and then in mid-air, landed a flush head kick that dropped Ben to the mat. Pettis swarms but can't put him away. Its a sweep for the new Lightweight Champion who is set to meet the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard!
"Fight Of The Night"

8-3 on the picks.
