Nick Diaz vs. Hayato "Mach" Sakurai @ DREAM 14

UFC 114 Results: Rashad, Bisping, Nogueira, & Hathway Smiled Upon By Judges

Ryan Jensen defeats Jesse Forbes by Submission (Guillotine Choke) 1 1:06 Well that's about the last we'll see of "Kid Hercules." Now who wants to volunteer to put out Jensen?

Aaron Riley defeats Joe Brammer by Unanimous Decision 15:00

Cyrille Diabate Upsets Luis Arthur Cane via TKO (Punches) 1 2:13 "Banha" started well dropping the "Snake" and pouncing for the kill but couldn't get the finish and once back to the feet, Cyrille started putting combinations together and it was Cane who drops and Diabate who finishes things.

Melvin Guillard defeats Waylon Lowe via KO (Knee to the Body) 1 3:28 Mel called out "Jeremy Stevenson" for his next fight (yawn).

Efrain Escudero defeats Dan Lauzon by an odd Unanimous Decision 15:00 It was odd because it seemed Efrain was controlling the fight especially when a tiring Lauzon disappeared for the entire 2nd round. Slow and steady wins the race as Escudero continued to take apart the now loner Dan but both kinda just hung around until the final 10 second throwdown. Efrain continues to improve and the young Lauzon may be seeking new employment.

Dong Hyun Kim owns Amir Sadollah by Unanimous Decision 15:00 It was takedown and work as Amir had no answers for the "Donger's" shots and could not get back to his feet once on his back. Sadollah just looked like he had zero answers while the "Stun Gun" has quietly won 4 in a row in the UFC.

John Hathaway Upsets a chubby Diego Sanchez by Unanimous Decision 15:00 Deigo looked near his old self early in style attacking relentlessly but soft around the edges. John never seemed concerned at the wolverine coming at him and instead timed a knee into the face of Sanchez as he shot in for the takedown. Hathaway almost separated the "Nightmare's" head from his body but could not put away the proud Mexican. In the following rounds, Hathaway began putting his punches together as Diego seemed to send emails before his punched. John easily shrugged off takedown attempts and out worked an obviously fading Sanchez. It's a big time win for the undefeated 22 year old as Sanchez is left to wonder what to do now after back to back losses and a dismal effort in his return to 170 lbs.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeats Jason Brilz in a very close Split-Decision 15:00 "Lil Nog" came out as normal early establishing his jab to set up that deadly left hand. After eating some stiff knees to the belly, Brilz scores a takedown but can't get anything and they end on the feet with "Minotoro" landing a bit more. In the 2nd round Jason takes Nogueira down again and sinks in a deep guillotine for quite a spell. Antonio works his way in and out of the guillotine as Jason keeps trying but Rogerio keeps escaping. Brilz then begins to win on the feet as well scoring hands and "Lil Nog" looks wobbly as the round ends. For the final round Jason seems slower and missing a shot Nog locks him in a crucifix though little damage is done. A big knee and a final ground sweep seal the deal for the Black House Team Nogueira member. The crowd boo's the judges Split-Decision but it's actually the right call from the suits. 1 & 3 I found easily Nog's though Brilz came close to finishing in the 2nd. Add up the tally and its still Brazil over Nebraska no matter what the idiot crowd thinks.
* "Lil Nog" definitely didn't look great in this outing but it was a big change in opponent from a well known to an unknown and Jason Brilz now has his name in the Light Heavyweight radar even on a loss that is going to push his career skyward. Lot's of respect and intelligence from Jason after the show and how about coming out to Pennywise's "Bro-Hymn" song!!

Mike Russow Upsets Todd Duffee KO (Punch) 3 2:32 It was all the "Next Big Hype" for 3 rounds as he threw the same in with uppercuts and move away combination in route to what looked like a route when the iron jawed Russow who had taken a merciless beating landed a big right hand to the temple that put Todd out before he landed on the mat! Big turn around though not the "greatest and best KO ever seen in the history of mankind!" as Joe Rogan stated over and over again for some odd reason.
* Though Duffee is young (24) and things like this happen when you use the same techniques over and over again in a bout and the veteran times you and never says die. Todd has a lot going for him with the whole super-athletic, powerful, and freakishly scary demeanor but it was definitely an inexperienced fighters mistake. And how about Mikey who is almost silently has a 9 fight winning streak and has only met the judges twice in his career. A step up is in order with Russow maybe facing Heath Herring (speaking of which is this guy ever coming back?) and give green Todd Anthony Perosh (ya know, Perosh should get a gift after surviving Mirko Cro Cop) or someone of equal or lesser value.

Michael Bisping defeats Dan Miller via Unanimous Decision 15:00 Inexplicably Dan decided to trade on the feet which is the "Count's forte and not his. 1 or 2 meager takedown attempts and the rest was Mike slowly building confidence and fighting a smart standing fight with good striking and still limited power.
* Wow, I don't know what you do with Dan who has lost 3 in a row! Will the UFC cut such a good prospect? Bisping doing his thing and the haters be damned but don't ask for that rematch with Wanderlei Silva, you might get it.

Rashad Evans defeats Quinton Jackson by Unanimous Decision 15:00 Right out of the gate with the 1st punch, "Suga" (as it is being spelled now) rocked "Rampage" and sent him reeling across the cage. Quinton quickly recovered but from there it was an intelligent Rashad moving in and out using speed with beautiful takedowns that left Jackson on the defense and the round easy to score. In the 2nd, Rashad clinches Jackson against the cage wearing on him and attempting takedowns and controlling the little action that was. It's do or die time for "Rampage" in the final round and he floors "Suga" with a right hand and assaults him with the referee coming oh so close to stopping the bout but rightly letting it continue. Rashad tries cleaning out the cobwebs as he takes down Jackson twice and lands his best striking via G&P before the fight ends. The fans may not like it, but it's a brilliant gameplan with Rashad outsmarting Quinton all the way to the bank.
* Stop hatin' bitches, "Suga" is just smarter than you and now gets a shot at the Champion Mauricio Rua in the near future. "Rampage" complains of ring rust and promotional tours for his A-Team movie as an explanation to why didn't he let his hands go? Probably a match with Lyoto Machida and a similar result for the single dimensional street fighter.

8-3 on the picks

DREAM 14 Results: Diaz, Gracie, & Yamamoto Find Success

Ikuhisa Minowa defeats Imani Lee by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) 1 4:16
Kenji Osawa defeats Yoshiro Maeda by Split-Decision 15:00
Kazuyuki Miyata defeats Takafumi Otsuka by Split-Decision 15:00
Akiyo Nishiura defeats Hideo Tokoro by TKO (Punches) 1 2:51

Norifumi Yamamoto defeats Federico Lopez by KO (Punches) 1 1:41 "Kid" served notice that he is back 4 realz as he dropped his opponent with a left hook and from there went into super-sonic kill ya style.

Hiroyuki Takaya defeats Joachim Hansen by KO (Punches) 1 4:27 It was a shocking straight right hand that hurt "Hellboy" early and the right hook the put the lights out for the 1st time in Joachim's career giving Takaya a huge win. "Bancho" is just all over the map these days.

Ralek Gracie defeats Kazushi Sakuraba by Unanimous Decision 15:00 Well the Gracie took down Sakuraba in all three rounds controlling him with superior positioning and strategic strikes. Sakuraba swept him in the third and threatened with a kimura, but the referee all but ended his hopes when he intervened to adjust Gracie’s shorts. Not all that impressive but another Gracie gets the win over the "Gracie Hunter."

Nick Diaz defeats Hayato Sakurai by Submission (Armbar) 1 3:54 Diaz went for the Jiu-Jitsu game early in taking "Mach" down but the veteran returned the favor setting up the Cesar Gracie student for his game. From his back Nick worked the armbar and Hayato went for an escape only to find himself hopelessly caught and forced to tapout. Diaz continues to roll winning 7 in a row while Sakurai has dropped 3 in a row for the 1st time in his alustrous career. I believe we can all see the end nearing for the Japanese legend but he still has good fights left. Just not at a title level.

5-3 on the picking side.

DREAM 14: Picks & Such

DREAM 14: May 29 On HDNET
Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan

Kazushi Sakuraba (26-12-1) vs. Ralek Gracie (2-0) The legendary "Gracie Hunter" is at it again with inexperienced nephew of Royce Gracie. Guess what, he likes Jiu-Jitsu and Saku is going to toy with him before he taps him out. Big win go home.
WINNER-Sakuraba by Rd.1 Submission

Nick Diaz (21-7) vs. Hayato "Mach" Sakurai (35-10-2) Now we get nasty quick as the soon to be suspended stateside Cesar Gracie student finally gets the hardcore MMA fans dream match with the legendary future 1st ballot Hall Of Famer "Mach" Sakurai. Hayato has fallen on harder times as he is now 35 with back to back losses while Diaz put the Strikeforce Welterweight title around his waist and is riding a 6 fight winning streak that's a who's who of MMA. I fully expect "Mach" to be more than game against Nick but he won't be able to keep pace or withstand the barrage of punches coming his way. A ground war would benefit Sakurai but Diaz should know by now to stand up and not leave fights to the judges.
WINNER-Nick Diaz Rd.3 TKO

Hiroyuki Takaya (12-8-1) vs. Joachim Hansen (19-9-1) "Streetfight Bancho" (without Lefty: Hey did you hear Willie Nelson cut his hair? That's crazy.) meets "Hellboy" in a war off wills on the feet. Takaya has dropped 2 in a row (1 being to Featherweight Champion Bibiano Fernandes) as has Hansen who lost to Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki and Featherweight Champion (there he is again) Bibiano Fernandes so both men are so close to the top of the food chain they can almost taste it. A wild and wooly affair favors "Hellboy" and the eventual defeat via knees.
WINNER-"Hellboy" Hansen by Rd.2 TKO

Hideo Tokoro (26-21-1) vs. Akiyo "Wicky" Nishiura (10-5-1) Tokoro has a 1 fight winning streak from K-1 while "Wicky" is a bit odd and strange which are similar things. I'll take experience over crazy.
WINNER-Hideo Tokoro by late Submission

Kazuyuki Miyata (8-7) vs. Takafumi Otsuka (10-4-1) The "Fumer" is a decently rounded fighter and both men will be glad to take things to the judges.
WINNER-Mazda Miata by Decision

Yoshiro Maeda (26-8-2) vs. Kenji Osawa (15-9-2) is coming off a head kick KO loss.
WINNER-Osawa by Decision

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto (17-3) vs. Federico Lopez (4-2) We all await the return of the real "Kid" who returns from unheard of back to back Upset losses in what was a disasterous year for the Japanese superstar. "Kiko" serves as the testing rod for Yamamoto's comeback and will need some Team Quest L&P to keep things calm early. Me doubts his wrestling can hang and it's all day wherever I want Krazy Bee style.
WINNER-"Kid" Yamamoto by Rd.1 TKO

Ikuhisa Minowa (45-30-8) vs. Imani Lee (1-2) Imani Lee? IMANI LEE? Come on DREAM, at least make an effort for "Minowaman."
WINNER-"Punk" Minowa by Rd.1 Submission

UFC 114: Picks For You Time

UFC 114: May 29, 2010
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

Main Bouts (PPV):
Official #1 Contender's Bout "Sugar" Rashad Evans (14-1-1) vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (30-7) Though Rashad has been waiting on "Rampage" for a while now, stylistically this fight has disaster written all over it for Evans. Rashad can't match power on the feet for sure and the usually effective leg kicks are not really a big part of Evan's arsenal though Greg Jackson teammate Keith Jardine could be helping with that. Wrestling will be a factor but taking down Jackson is easier said than done, and keeping him floored will he a Herculean task. The gas tanks won't be an issue here with Quinton super-engaged in the fight with the "uncle tom" and other black on black racism that has been erupting as of late. Time for talking is done though good work as this PPV is going to be huge hype masters, but in the end there are more advantages for the American Wolfslair fighter to control with powerful boxing and counters over the smaller statured man in the beautiful suit. Evan's best bet is sticking and moving in route to making it a boring controlled fight on the floor until the Decision. I'm rooting for ya Rashad all the way, but I think we are both going to be disappointed.
WINNER-B.A. Baracus Rd.1 TKO

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (18-3) vs. Jason Brilz (18-2-1) I do appreciated Brilz stepping up for the injured Forrest Griffin but he is going to be cannon fodder for "Minotoro's" boxing before the eventual tap. Also, think of a better nickname than the "Hitman" which is surprisingly used by about 100 professional fighters to date.
WINNER-"Minotoro" by Submission

Michael Bisping (18-3) vs. Dan Miller (11-3) Both men are facing tough times in the Middleweight division but the "Count" has far superior striking and though Miller is great at the takedowns, once there, his offense is limited to a busy Decision. Mike has been known to have defense turning into offense on his back or using his good hips to get out and up to his feet again. Quite frankly, Dan doesn't excel so much at offense and Bisping does. The older Miller is tough as they come but that only helps getting to the final bell. Make it a 2 fer the Wolfslair camp as the "Count" puts on a S&B clinic.
WINNER-Michael Bisping by Decision

Todd Duffee (6-0) vs. Mike Russow (12-1) The "next big hype" is here and be afraid Heavyweights. This very young cat (23) is a physical freak with solid Greco-Roman wrestling and obvious KO power. Mike is a wrestler, yes, that's about it. Let the destruction begin as Duffee devours Russow like Oprah devours newborn babies to keep her satanic heart beating.
WINNER-The "Duff Man" by Devastation

Diego Sanchez (21-3) vs. John Hathaway (12-0) Though the newly motivated "Nightmare" is going to be back and angry as ever (YES!), the 2nd "Hitman" on the card may have some answers to the as to whether or not Diego should return to the Welterweight division. Personally I agree with Sanchez who looked much healthier and powerful as a 170er, though he still made his "I'm trying to intimidate you with an angry 5 year old," face. Be that as it may, John the Rugby player walked into the UFC defeating (at the time) undefeated Tom Eagen, Rick Story, and Paul Taylor who are all very determined, big, and respected Welterweights. Expect this fight to be on the floor a lot where each man will cancel the other out. It's on the feet where the formerly skinny as a crack headed Ethiopian fighter, gets the bout to the judges.
WINNER-Diego Sanchez by Decision

Prelims (On Spike TV):
Dong Hyun Kim (12-0-1) vs. Amir Sadollah (3-1) The fan love is all for the whimsical Amir, but he's about to run into trouble in the form of the "Donger." The "Stun Gun" has far superior striking and will cut and slash Sadollah like Republicans on a bill to aid brown people.
WINNER-The "Donger" by TKO Rd.3
Efrain Escudero (12-1) vs. Dan Lauzon (12-3) Efrain has been impressive in his short career with constant improvement in all areas while Dan had 2 trainers and his own brother Joe Lauzon, quit mid-camp because of a lack of focus for the younger Lauzon. I don't know if Dan could handle Escudero after a good camp let alone a shitty 1. The Tempe fighter already beat a mirror image of Dan (Cole Miller) and it's gonna be takedown and grind kind of night.
WINNER-Efrain Escudero by Decision

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Melvin Guillard (23-8-2) vs. Waylon Lowe (8-2) Finally Guillard gets a boxing match he's wanted and will win though he'll still be a douche.
WINNER-Melvin by Rd.2 TKO
Luis Arthur Cane (10-2) vs. Cyril Diabate (15-6-1) "Banha" and "Snake" are both kickboxers though Cyril's lanky limbs are gonna reach from 1 side of the cage to the other. Arthur has faced tough fighters in 3 of his last 4 (you're the odd man out Sokojoke) while Cyril hasn't faced anyone that good since "Shogun" Rua curb stomped him back in '06. It's close and I do like Diabate but the "debut curse" tips the balance for Luis.
WINNER-"Banha" by Decision
Joe Brammer (7-1-1) vs. Aaron Riley (28-12-1) It's a "loser leaves town" match in which the veteran has all the advantages.
WINNER-Aaron Riley by Decision
Jesse Forbes (11-4) vs. Ryan Jensen (14-6) Flip a coin as I can't be bothered to care about these guys.
WINNER-Jensen by Whatever

MMA Melee: The WWE, Shaquille O'Neal, & Other Legitimate MMA Issues

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua returned home to Brazil with his new UFC Light Heavyweight title and his 2005 Pride FC Grand Prix belt in tow among a throng of fans. Its a visual reminder of what all Rua had to go through between 5 years of very up, and very down times. Congratulations again to the new champion.
An interesting note, much has been made of the fact there have been 6 different champions Mauricio Rua, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Quinton Jackson, & Chuck Liddell) at the UFC's Light Heavyweight class. Can "Shogun" be the 1st Champ since "Rampage" to successfully defend the title (* I am not counting the robbery of the 1st bout between Rua & Machida as legitimate therefore disqualified from this writing). Also strange to note that infamous MMA judge Cecil Peoples still scored the fight 10-9 for Machida even after the end result. Yes Lyoto will be back but stop sucking the overrated Karate cock.

Kimbo Slice, the clock is at about 14:59 buddy. Big mouth Dana White actually said something smart after UFC 112 and the release of said Fergusen. When asked how they could cut Kevin knowing how popular he still is with the fans and he replied,"It's not about being a huge draw. It's about having the right to be here. Because whether you're a big draw or not, this is about the sport and about who's the best and, you know, there's other people out there who deserve to be in the UFC." Well spoken sir.
No news yet as to where Slice might possibly land a fight though the current rumors have Strikeforce not interested (according to CEO Scott Coker) which I find hard to believe, but DREAM could always use a new Bob Sapp character (according to me).

Dan "The Beast" Severn recently stated retirement is nearing for the 51 year old veteran with a record of 93-16-7. The cagey mustachioed wrestler has fought and won as recently as April of 2010 and had this to say about retirement.
"I've spoken to both Mark Coleman and Ken Shamrock about rematches. It would be nice to get those matches...have my last hurrah, you know?

Not sure if those fights will happen in the UFC. But it would be nice if they could. That way, I'll be finishing my career where it started.

I just want to do those last couple of matches and I'll be done."
Sounds very unexciting and sad.

Strikeforce is open to co-promoting with Bellator, and possibly a dream bout between Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez who are Lightweight Champions of the respective MMA promotions. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said he's open to co-promoting the champion-vs.-champion bout.
"If the stars align and we can work out all the terms and conditions and timing, we'd do it," Coker told MMA Junkie. "Of course we would. Why wouldn't we? Let's go do this." That has potential "Fight Of The Year" written all over it.

After getting his 2nd win in a row after some disastrous outings, Tim Sylvia and his exaggerated self-importance called out some fighters for rematches.
"I want to fight Overeem, Fedor again, Werdum is a good fight and me and Rogers would be a good fight. Arlovski I think would be [like our fight] number three again, me knocking him out. I think I ruined the poor guy, since I knocked him out he hasn’t been the same."
Heavyweights everywhere have begun giggling. Its not that Sylvia isn't a decent Heavyweight because he is. It's just that you have just beaten Mariusz Pudzianowski who is too big to possibly keep his muscles oxygenated and has had a mere 3 pro MMA bouts. Let's calm it down a bit Timmay and sign with Strikeforce 1st.

UFC Undisputed 2010 is jam packed with upgrades for the MMA game and none are more interesting than Shaquille O'Neal. The "Big Aristotle" is an unlockable character in the Zuffa game as well as TUF alumni James McSweeney, Brendan Schaub, Roy Nelson, the recently retired but beloved Marcus Jones, and the deceased "Maske" from the Tapout crew. Enjoy Joe.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will soon be co-hosting the June 7 episode of WWE Raw. Jackson is appearing with Bradley Cooper and Sharito Copley on the show to promote their upcoming A-Team film, based on the popular 80s adventure series. This has hilarious disaster written all over it.

We went a sultry 8-1 on our picks for Strikeforce Challengers and the initial Moosin event.

Strikeforce Heavy Artillery Results: The "Demolition Man" Demolishes Rogers

We’re in the Lou and I’m proud but when is Frank going to get rid of his Jan Brady braces already? We join the worst announcing team in the biz as we begin the 12 bout night as Strikeforce returns to St. Louis!

Alistair Overeem defeats Brett Rogers by Rd.1 TKO. The oft demanded, rarely seen Golden Glory champ comes out to good dance music to love for you man guy. Alistair has that douche bag frat boy stare and the "Grim" is missing his patented Mohawk. Overeem just looks more ath-el-etic as the jocks say these days, and throws Rogers to the ground with ease beginning the G&P. Its on with a grounded flying knee and a thrashing which leads to a turtled challenger and the referee stopping the bout. In the interview the aptly named "Demolition Man" calls out Fedor Emelianenko to fight and blames the Russian management which is becoming to loud to ignore. Mr. Rogers fails to bring the Championship home to Minnesota just like Bret Farve.

Antonio Silva defeats Andrei Arlovski by Unanimous Decision. ATT’s “Bigfoot” came in with a 5 inch reach advantage and a mug longer than Kentucky Derby winner “Super Saver.” The “Pitbull 2.0” came out in a pimp boxing robe and a big pop from the crowd. A stiff jab and hook land for Silva as he quickly gets the better of Arlovski even landing a big right hand that hurt Andrei, but he stayed conscious for a moral victory. Everyone was clinched up in the 2nd with Silva winning the uneventful round. Referee “Big” John McCarthy admonishes the men to “work” before he starts the final 5 minutes. Just before the 2:00 minute mark Arlovski lands a high kick and his best punch of the night only to find himself stuffed into the cage again and slammed to the mat. Antonio does some odd dancing before the fight is over being an ass I guess, and winning the bout by Decision 29-28. The “Pitbull 2.0” looked exactly like the “Pitbull” of old and has now lost a trio in a row.

Ronaldo Souza defeats Joey Villasenor by Unanimous Decision. The gator got takedowns whenever he wanted but credit “Smokin” Joe for surviving and finding great wrestling escapes. In the final round, Joey was feeling more confident and “Jacare” was bleeding from the mouth. Villasenor began stopping the takedowns for the most part but when Souza secured the floor plan, he began points building as the commentators said, "Joey is wearing Jacare out." while held in check and doing nothing:) The ref stands them up though Ron was obviously working but a quick takedown earns him the judges favor. Souza 30-27

Roger Gracie defeats Kevin Randleman by RNC in the 2nd round. Mr. Randleman held on and fought well but eventually went to sleep. If we know anything about the Gracie’s its that they lack endurance and have weak stand up skills. Roger said he trained 20% striking and 80% grappling with the gi on. What this tells me is this kid is stupid and won’t go far. You normally can’t fight with the gi on and ignoring the glaring weaknesses in one’s game is a plan for disaster. The cardio seemed alright but who knows against an opponent who can still compete (sorry “Monster”).

Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante gets a KO win over Antwain Britt in a spirited affair. The Britt from Virginia looked better on the feet landing more but with the big bombers it only takes 1. The head kick that began the fall was nice but the final hooks and beautiful uppercut ended the night.
4-1 on the picks.

Strikeforce Overeem vs Rogers: Picks & Prognostications

STRIKEFORCE: May 15, 2010
venue: Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri

Main Card (On Showtime):
Alistair Overeem (32-11) vs. Brett Rogers (10-1) I like "Grim's" chances but the problem is that he is far more 1-dimensional in the striking than the now colossal "Demolition Man." Toughness will definitely come into play here but Overeem should have enough experience to hold on to the title while making
Golden Glory proud.
WINNER-Alistair Overeem by Rd.3 TKO

Andrei Arlovski (15-7) vs. Antonio Silva (13-2) Well the "Pitbull 2.0" is finally here. The Belarus native is sporting a new plan of attack and a chin made of tissue paper. Despite my love of "Bigfoot" and his constant improvement, he still isn't quite ready for the top elite Heavyweights, and make no mistake about it, chin and all, Arlovski is still in the top tier. Anything can happen in an Andrei fight but I'm 1 who bets on the percentages.
WINNER-Andrei Arlovski by Rd.3 TKO

Ronaldo "Jacare" de Souza (11-2) vs. Joey Villasenor (27-6) "Jacare" is the hot prospect of the moment as he faces "Smokin'," who is trying to become consistent and relevant at Middleweight. This ain't a fight to get right for Joey who has adequate boxing, but is going to get tied up and twisted like tortilla. Dominant Jiu-Jitsu is at play here against an average fighter.
WINNER-Ron de Souza by Rd.2 Submission

Roger Gracie (2-0) vs. Kevin Randleman (17-14) Willing to fight every 2 years, the Gracie's last hope meets the "Monster" who really is looking to rack up the most injuries in the sport of MMA. The Hammer House fighter is old, brittle, and has never developed a decent all around game save his jittery crazy man starts that wilt with his cardio at the initial 2 minute mark. I can't believe I'm actually picking a Gracie to win in 2010!
WINNER-Roger Gracie by Rd.2 Submission

Antwain Britt (11-3) vs. Rafael Cavalcante (8-2) The highly underrated Britt (who is not from England) brings the bang style against "Feijao" who reps Team Nogueira (or Black House) and will respond in kind. The big boys bombing means anyone can win, but I'm guessing people who train with Anderson Silva and the Nogueira brothers will help.
WINNER-"Feijao" by Rd.1 TKO

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Jesse Finney (4-0) vs Justin DeMoney (13-2-1)
Lyle Beerbohm (13-0) vs. Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro (20-3)
Fransisco "Kiko" France vs Lee Brousseau
Mike Chandler vs Sal Woods
Eric Steenberg vs Tom Aaron
Gregory Wilson vs. Matt Ricehouse
Booker DeRousse vs Darryl Cobb

Shine Fights: Din Thomas vs Ricardo Mayorga or MMA vs Boxing

SHINE FIGHTS: May 15, 2010
Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C.

Din Thomas (25-8) vs. Ricardo Mayorga (0-0) Since being bounced from the UFC after a loss to Josh Neer, "Dinyero" has bounced around a bit earning stoppages in all 3 of his fights. A MMA pro of 33 fights, 7 by (T)KO, 14 by submission, and continually honing his skills with ATT. "El Matador" is a former WBC Champion with a boxing record of 28-7 with 22 coming by way of KO though he lost 4 of his last 7 and has not competed since 2008. So the obvious question is, can Thomas take this to the floor assuming he doesn't have an out of control ego that tells him to try and knock out the heavy handed Boxer, or can Ricardo sprawl & brawl enough to land that big punch. I will always bet MMA over boxing as we begin to see more and more crossover bouts and fully expect a tapout from the overly cocky smoker.
WINNER-Din Thomas by Rd.2 Submission

Murilo "Ninja" Rua (18-10-1) vs. David Heath (14-6) The well fed Mr. Heath is mostly known for getting choked into near oblivion after insulting the very proud Renato Sobral but the former UFC veteran has won 5 of 8 but not against anyone worth a damn. "Ninja" has been polishing "Shogun's" Light Heavyweight title and winning 2 bouts in a row in the homeland's MMA promotion Bitetti Combat. Whatsagonnahappen, is "Ninja" will come out crazy go nuts attacking with abandon and Heath will try to weather the storm. This is probably a coin flipper but I'll always take the Rua member in a pinch.
WINNER-Murilo Rua by Decision

Nick "Goat" Thompson (38-12-1) vs. Eduardo Pamplona (12-2) The "Goat" has dropped 2 in a row and not much has gone right recently for the enigmatic ground fighter. Ed is a scary lookin' M-1 fighter who is riding a 7 fight winning streak since losing to Robbie Lawler back in '07. I'll take Eddy to avoid and attack his way to a judges nod.
WINNER-Eduardo Pamplona
Braulio Estima (0-0) vs. Rick Hawn (5-0) My estimation is for Estima.
WINNER-Braulio Estima by Decision
Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira (18-6) vs. Jamal Patterson (5-2) The Chute Boxe submission fighter has won 7 in a row none going to decision. The "Suit" has been AWOL since his decent IFL days where he employed wrestling and vice grip submissions. I don't like picking ring rusty fighters (thanks a lot Pat Cote) so though my instinct says Pat, I'll go safer with Chute Boxe.
WINNER-"Cacareco" by Decision
Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett (10-4) vs. Luiz Azeredo (12-8) The oft jailed continually erratic "KH" is coming off a KO loss which is supposed to be his game. Chute Boxe's "Joker" has been up and down fighting sporadically since his Pride FC days. A 2 year layoff brings my rust rule just spoken of, but the fool that is "Krazy Horse" puts all of that to rest.
WINNER-Luiz Azeredo by Rd.1 Submission
Mario Stapel (16-12) vs. Zac George (19-3)
WINNER-Zac George
Paulo Souza (7-3) vs. Roger Carroll (8-2)
WINNER-Roger Carroll

UFC 113: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is Finally, Officially, Crowned UFC Light Heavyweight Champion!!

John Salter defeats Jason MacDonald via TKO Leg Injury. This was an unfortunate accident reminiscent of Duane Ludwig at the 1st UFC on Versus event. Salter took the "Athlete" to the floor and during the process Jason's leg snapped in 2! It was brutal, it was gross, and obviously painful ruining the return to the UFC for MacDonald. We will update when we learn more about the condition of Jason.
Michael Guymon upset Yoshiyuki Yoshida by Decision (30-27) possibly sending "Zenko" to the unemployment line. Yoshida is a big disappointment and Guymon proved me and many others wrong. Perhaps King Of The Cage alumni are to be respected a bit more.
Joey Beltran defeated Tim Hague by Unanimous Decision.
Johny Hendricks took a Majority Decision over T.J. Grant in a toughly contested close fight.

Marcus Davis got the guess what, TKO win over Jonathan Goulet. Davis landed early in the 1st and wobbled the iron jaw of Jon before he recovered and finished the round strong on top of Marcus. But all new rounds start on the feet and the "Irish Hand Grenade" went off via the left hand that dropped the fragile Canadian to the mat before Davis pounded him out. Marcus did less weight training this time opting for speed and looked pretty good.

Joe Doerksen survived an early knockdown to rebound with the RNC win over Tom Lawlor who was still wearing the porno mustache he sported when aping Dan Severn at the weigh-ins. The "Filthy Mauler" rocked "El Dirte" early and unloaded a steady barrage of punches but was unable to put the veteran away. The pace was kept high in the 2nd and it became obvious that Lawlor was gassing out as he began to get outstruck by Doerksen. His faced puffing up and breathing heavy, Tom caught a kick from Joe only to have the Canadian climb onto his back sinking in the choke for the quick tapout. The crowd rightly went wild for the native son's stellar comeback.

Alan Belcher also defeated his opponent with the RNC leaving Patrick Cote complaining to the referee. The "Talent" looked good early on but the controversy came when the "New Predator" pushed Belcher against the cage. Alan pulled Pat into the air almost like a pro-wrestling pile driver but did not spike him on his head (which is illegal), instead face planting him. Dazed Cote didn't have time to defend the choke and tapped out. Sorry homey, but that was a legal maneuver and Alan feeling his oats called out Anderson Silva for a title fight. Good luck.

Matt Mitrione bested Kimbo Slice by TKO leaving me to hope we can put this awful experiment to rest. M&M came in confident and relaxed employing brutal leg kicks that Kimbo had no answer for. Slice did land some nice throwing takedowns but Mitrione found ways to scramble out of potential trouble and almost locked on a triangle choke in the initial round. In the 2nd the leg kicks were destroying Kimbo who was limping and tired before he was almost caught in an anaconda choke. Matt simply toyed with the "street fighter" who is obviously not a mixed martial artist. It was sad watching the also gassed M&M dropping pitter pat punches down on a defenseless Slice forcing the ref to stop the fight. Also Kimbo showed a lot of class interrupting Matt's post fight interview. This cat is embarrassing and all of you idiots cheering for him need to wake up to reality.

Jeremy Stephens defeated Sam Stout in a Split-Decision I don't care about.

Josh Koscheck also defeated Paul Daley by the Decision but not without a ton of controversy. The takedowns nullified everything "Semtex" tried to do but he attempted to throw an illegal knee at Koscheck's head though it grazed him at best and most likely missed altogether. The fight stopped for a bit with Josh looking for an Oscar nod but the referee saw the replay and we returned to action. It was lay and pray all the way to a 30-27 decision but then Daley followed Josh (whose back was turned) when the fight was over and threw a hard punch. The ref Dan Miragliotta (a rather larger man) whipped the Brit around and slammed him up against the cage though Koscheck didn't try to retaliate. Paul will be suspended and hopefully cut after this despicable act. Josh embraced his role as the villain telling the Montreal crowd the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to kick their ass next week. The crowd responded as expected but it was pretty funny to be honest.

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua KO'd Lyoto Machida taking the idiotic judges out of the equation for round 6. It was Rua's leg kicks again early on but the "Dragon" began executing beautiful takedowns. Then, "Shogun" kept up the pressure and landed a left hand to the side of Machida's head dropping the pseudo-champ to the mat. Mauricio then attacked using his blitzkrieg style and knocked Lyoto unconscious getting up before the ref even stepped in to stop it. FINALLY, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is officially crowned the Light Heavyweight Champion of the world!
4-7 on the picks which may be the worst I have ever done:(

UFC 113: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua 2 Picks & Prognostications

UFC 113: May 8, 2010
Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The UFC returns to the great land of Canada with 7 homeboys, a title Rematch, a #1 contenders bout, the guy with the worst chin in all of MMA (I'm looking at you Goulet), and Kimbo Slice whom the people care about but I don't. Its Canada versus the world!

Main Bouts (PPV):
Light Heavyweight Champion (thanks to 3 blind judges) Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida (16-0) vs. Uncrowned Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (18-4) After the robbery that was the last title fight between these 2 men, we return to settle the score for I'm guessing another 5 rounder. "Shogun" surprised Machida by remaining calm and out countering the counter Champion. I hope to see a bit more aggression from both men in the rematch and maybe a clinch war will break out between 2 guys who command the Muay Thai style well, but didn't use it much in the previous affair. Neither man wanted the ground last time but I would be shocked if Rua didn't try to get things there this time. The guy has some sub skills but mainly its his brutal G&P that I think would be most effective. The problem is not only getting that takedown, but just plain being able to touch the elusive pseudo-champ. The deceptive power of Lyoto and great game planning makes me think Machida won't be surprised by the leg assault again leading to a tactical victory as always. For the record, I hope "Shogun" knocks "The Dragon" into oblivion.
WINNER-Lyoto Machida by a legitimate Decision this time

Josh Koscheck (14-4) vs. Paul Daley (23-8-2) [Welterweight #1 Contender Bout] The build up for this fight has been amusing with Daly calling "Kos" a "fraggle," held a Photoshop contest mocking Josh with the help of the fans, and a claim to Koscheck's teeth after the fight. Funny shit but as he tried to goad "Sideshow Kos" into a war on the feet, Josh remained calm and intelligenter. "Paul Daley keeps saying ‘stand toe-to-toe with me.’ Well, how ‘bout we go out there and get in a wrestling stance?" Oh so simple and true as "Semtex" is a good striker, but has nothing else in his MMA bag o' tricks. Josh is going to wrestle him down and choke him out just as he has predicted. Fight smart, win early, and next will be the rematch with GSP.
WINNER-Josh Koscheck by Rd.2 Submission

Jeremy Stephens (16-5) vs. Sam Stout (15-5-1) The "Lil Heathen" meets "Hands Of Stone" (who hasn't had a KO since 2007 mind you) in a battle of the average that is inexplicably on the PPV. I'd rather see any of the Prelims in this spot but what ever. Stephens is a wrestler by trade with power but sloppy striking. Stout is a kickboxer with zero ground game but good takedown defense, elite cardio, and a tendency to allow his fights to be decided by judges which is always a good idea. I care very little about this bout so lets take the Canadian and move on.
WINNER-Sam Stout

Kimbo Slice (4-1) vs. Matt Mitrione (1-0) This fight is lame for so many reasons none more important than the fact it is set up for Kimbo to win thus making the UFC more $money$ on the name of a street fighter who still isn't very good at MMA. Fucking stupid and how dare they put this on the main card not to mention expecting it to sway you into purchasing a PPV. (shakes head and mumbles to self) I am finding myself amused at Matt's lack of fear for Kimbo and hope he takes Slice's head off. The 2 almost fought backstage after the weigh-ins so this might get interesting yet.
WINNER-Kimbo by Decision

Alan Belcher (15-6) vs. Patrick Cote (13-5) Now here is a competitive and interesting fight. The new "Predator" has been out for 2 years with a brutal knee injury after hanging with Anderson Silva for 3 rounds. The "Talent" has looked really good in his last 4 attempts (including the judges rape versus Yoshihiro Akiyama) but when they clinch up there is no escaping Cote's power. I can already hear the "Cote-Cote-Cote" chants in Canada lifting GSP's good buddy to a highlight reel return.
WINNER-Patrick Cote by Rd.3 KO

Prelims (Non-Televised):
Joe Doerksen (44-12) vs. Tom Lawlor (6-2) "El Dirte" vs "The Filthy Mauler" leads to a grimy fight as Joe returns to the UFC after amassing 5 straight wins and Lawlor tries to rebound from a Split-Decision loss last time out. Both men enjoy the floor plan but Doerksen is a veteran with 32 submission wins in his career so I doubt Tommy Boy will test his Jiu-Jitsu Saturday. Despite only a 5 year age difference, a long career has taken its toll on Joe who looks about 50 these days. Expect Tom to turn up the pace wearing down the guy who has survived 56 pro bouts before he puts Doerkson down and out of the UFC for the final time. Also, watch Lawler beg for your attention at the weigh-ins in some odd getup or hair/beard style. This guy tries to hard to be funny and it comes off as needy more than anything.
WINNER-"The Filthy Mauler" by Rd.2 TKO
Jonathan Goulet (22-10) vs. Marcus Davis (16-6) Glass jaw has been brought back yet again, this time to face the "Irish Hand Grenade." Obviously, this is supposed to be a gimme fight for Davis who was battered violently in his last outing against "Killa-B" which not only cost him any hope of reaching a title shot, but allowed the whispers to begin about early retirement for the cut heavy faced Irishman. Time to rebound against the guy everyone rebounds against who has been KO'd 7 times in his career and a mere 33 seconds into his last bout. Even his fellow Canadians know Goulet doesn't have a shot in hell.
WINNER-Marcus Davis by KO Rd.1
Yoshiyuki Yoshida (11-4) vs. Mike Guymon (11-3-1) A lot of hype came with Yoshida's entrance to the UFC but he has gone an average at best 2-2 since. Now "Zenko" looks to make it 1 in a row against a guy who must have a friend in management, because he ain't good enough to be here. The 36 year old is going to get caught in the clinch by a stronger opponent over and over until his night is over.
WINNER-"Zenko" by Rd.1 TKO
Tim Hague (10-3) vs. Joey Beltran (11-3) I would say the "Mexicutioner" embarrassed Rolles Gracie last time out, but he really did that on his own. Still it was an impressive win for the short little engine that could on short notice. The "Thrashing Machine" got cut after a couple of tough losses but the former Kindergarten teacher was granted clemency to work in his homeland once again. He'll enjoy a massive size and reach advantage against a fellow bomb thrower which will excite the crowd, but to be honest, Beltran isn't UFC material. Sloppy but powerful striking is fine against a Gracie, but not against Hague. Sorry but the minor leagues are calling.
WINNER-Tim Hague by Rd.2 TKO
T.J. Grant (15-3) vs. Johny Hendricks (7-0) Epic beard has won 6 of his last 7 and has his home country in his corner. The undefeated Oklahoman would rather keep this standing or use his wrestling and top control avoiding Grant's decent submissions. Johny will be stronger and more agile controlling the pace of the fight with more offensive wrestling while showing his improving game as the more stagnant T.J. will become frustrated en route to a loss via points.
WINNER-Johny Hendricks by Decision
Jason MacDonald (24-13) vs. John Salter (4-1) I knew the "Athlete" would be back someday, but it took only 3 straight wins and the Canadian ginger returns. Pure guts and a slick submission game will meet a developing wrestler though I believe the striking will be equal. MacDonald can work well off his back gunning for submissions or landing slashing elbows but the wrestling will bring the loss on the judges cards.
WINNER-John Salter by Decision
