UFC 128 Results: "Bones" Jones NEW Light Heavyweight Champion + Faber, Miller, & Marquardt All Win

Erik Koch KO'd Raphael Assuncao in the 1st round of the 1st fight of the evening. The bubble headed striker brought the Roufusport magic and the reach advantage and technical skill was sizable. Nice work and welcome to the UFC kid. "KO Of The Night"

Nick Catone defeats Constantinos Philippou by Unanimous Decision. Yup.

Joseph Benavidez defeated Ian Loveland by Unanimous Decision in a gritty affair. Ian had the game early but Joe kept his composure and delivered his standard wrestling beatdown.

Gleison Tibau bests Kurt Pellegrino by Split-Decision. The partisan Jersey crowd can boo all they want but Tibau won that fight. Kurt absolutely faded away and Gleison sealed it with the takedown. 29-28 across the board.

Mike Pyle upsets Ricardo Almeida by Unanimous Decision. Pyle caught "Big Dog" early and often with surprisingly good muay thai and refusing to fight on the floor. Almeida's takedown attempts were awful and he was gassed out while Pyle came on stronger. Impressive stuff from Xtreme Couture and Renzo's student finds himself in serious trouble.

Edson Barboza Jr. stays undefeated beating Anthony Njokuani by Unanimous Decision. Have not seen it yet. "Fight Of The Night" from what I hear.

* OK saw it. Yes it was fight of the night for sure. These boys threw down standing in a very entertaining kickboxing bout. Check the end for the impressive spinning head kick.

Luis Artur Cane TKO'd Eliot Marshall in the very 1st round. It was quickly apparent that "Fire" had no business being back in the UFC even as a late replacement. His takedown attempts were half-hearted at best and "Banha" just rocked him with a left hand and then swarmed the hurt foe with a blitzkreig of strikes. It was a ton of abuse before the ref finally stepped in and halted the rape.

Brendan Schaub KO'd Mirko Filipovic in the 3rd round. Fuck him.

Nate Marquardt school'd Dan Miller by Unanimous Decision. This is the Jon Fitch of the Middleweights. Nate will always be the 2nd best 185er while Anderson Silva is still breathing. Everyone else is screwed.

Jim Miller TKO'd Kamal Shalorus in the 3rd round and is the legitimate #1 contender to the Lightweight title! I love to say I told ya so and this guy is improving in leaps and bounds much like champion Frankie Edgar. Honestly, I don't think Anthony Pettis deserves a title shot but he'll get it if he beats Clay Guida. Miller may have to face upset special Dennis Siver.

Urijah Faber defeats Eddie Wineland by Unanimous Decision giving the "California Kid" his 1st UFC win. Ed came out strong stuffing Faber's takedowns but Urijah is not 1 to be denied and got on track in the 2nd. Growing stronger in the 3rd the "Kid" sealed the deal late. Afta, afta, Faber called out Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz (whom he has already beaten).

* The boss, Dana White has confirmed Urijah Faber as the new #1 contender! I smell bad blood rematch!

Jon Jones TKO's Mauricio Rua with punches and knees to become the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion at age 23. Jeeezus! "Bones" just destroyed "Shogun" with a poise and calm that was spooky. Rua never got into the fight and could not get near the taller fighter. Jon threw a spinning back elbow against the fence but it was the takedowns with brutal G&P and disrupting the air flow that wore down Mauricio. For the 3rd round "Shogun" looked beaten and bloody as the flowing Jones strode toward the title. The best elbows in the biz tear Rua apart and he turtles up. Back up only to eat a hard left to the body and another knee to drop him and end the fight. WOOOOOOOOOOW. This kid is ridiculous. I cannot believe how good this kid is and how easily he did it. The hype was wrong, it wasn't enough. Just amazing stuff.

* The crowd boos as Rashad Evans is brought in to become the #1 contender and the teammates will fight.
