It was a sad day back in 2007 when the MMA community lost its beloved Pride FC organization in Japan. New promotions emerged such as DREAM & Sengoku while Shooto & DEEP shows continued. None seemed to be able to catch fire like Pride FC did back in the day with superstars such as Kazushi Sakuraba, Mirko Filipovic, Mark Kerr, Rickson Gracie, Fedor Emelianenko , Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, on their roster. Now with DREAM failing ONE FC hast stepped up and into the MMA world confidently declaring themselves the second coming of Pride FC & MMA in the East.
ONE FC is ran by Victor Cui who has been working with ESPN to bring MMA back to popularity in Japan. "Fans want to see the best of the best compete against one another. For that very reason, ONE Fighting Championship has signed practically every Asian world champion or national champion in martial arts to compete under MMA rules. Most of our fighters are already household names in Asia."
The inaugural event filled the 12,000 seats at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and broadcast to a projected 500 million homes in all of Asia! The "Pride" ring is gone replaced with the standard circle cage and will feature the commentary of MMA legend Bas "El Guapo" Rutten. Veteran Matt Hume will lead the referee's and judges and famous referee Yuji Shimada has also joined the cast.
ONE FC will include all forms of MMA including boxing, wrestling, Karate, Kung Fu, Judo, Akiido, Muay Thai, Silat, Jiu-Jitsu, Kali, Shuai Jiao, and reserves the right for bouts in just these forms as well.
