UFC 135 Jones vs. Rampage: Picks & Prognostications

UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage
September 24, 2011
Pepsi Center
Denver, Colorado

This is one weak ass small PPV and its obvious the UFC is banking on people opening their wallets for the much hyped main event. A solid bet is Travis Browne while James Te Huna is my Upset Pick. It feels like this is an easy card to pick but I've said that before.

Main Bouts (PPV):
Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones (13-1) vs. Quinton Jackson (32-8) Everyone is talking about what a fraud "Bones" is, "spygate," and the "big time pressure" getting to the 23 year old champion, of which all is true, but it won't matter when the cage door closes. I don't believe "Rampage" wants to fight anymore and is simply doing a great job of hyping his "hunger" for the belt. In reality, he's driving up PPV numbers and thus his paycheck. Jon is struggling in the media spotlight but he'll still light up Jackson. Quinton has visibly slowed in recent fights and has but a one punch KO chance of winning. I'm expecting more of a Mauricio Rua vs Quinton Jackson in Pride FC type of bout with the younger, faster, and vastly more offensively diverse "Bones" taking apart "Rampage" as he tires in the "championship" rounds.
WINNER-Jon Jones by Rd.4 TKO

Matt Hughes (45-8) vs. Josh Koscheck (17-5) This is a nightmare scenario for Hughes as "Kos" steps in for Diego Sanchez. The "Blanket" does everything better than the vet at this stage in their respective careers and Koscheck has long looked to make an example of the man he loathes. Koscheck returns with a standing win as Matt's wife then calls it quits on a legendary career.
WINNER-Josh Koscheck by Rd.2 TKO

Ben Rothwell (31-7) vs. Mark Hunt (6-7) Much like "Rampage's" one punch KO chance in the "Main Event," My Cunt is up against it here. Rothwell isn't going to the top of the Heavyweight division any time soon but as a potential gatekeeper he does his unwritten job to out work and out strike Mark into the unemployment line. God forbid this hits the mat and Ben really works the Samoan.
WINNER-Ben Rothwell by Decision

Travis Browne (11-0-1) vs. Rob Broughton (15-5-1) "Hapa" is straight going to lamp chubby chubby fat fat giving Browne the highlight reel victory Joe Silva envisioned when making this slaughter bout.
WINNER-Travis Browne by Rd.1 KO

Nate Diaz (13-7) vs. Takanori Gomi (32-7) The younger (and more reliable) 209 member is going to be out for blood since Nick Diaz' epic victory in 2007 over the "Fireball Kid" was taken away for a mere marijuana violation. Everyone knows who won the fight and Nate is coming in hands down and middle fingers up to defend big brothers honor. Diaz could embarrass Gomi on the ground but will most likely stand wearing out Takanori with those patented pitter pat strikes the Diaz brothers slowly destroy opponents with. I don't see Gomi landing that kamikaze bomb that he lucked into with Tyson Griffin though he stays employed for the UFC's journey back to Japan next year.
WINNER-Nate Diaz by Rd.3 Submission

Prelims (Spike TV):
Tony Ferguson (11-2) vs. Aaron Riley (30-12-1) Riley is a tough veteran but he is here to test the young TUF winner who will take target practice like the NRA on hippies. Barring a mental lapse of judgement for Tony, he's got this dead bang.
WINNER-Tony Ferguson by Decision

Nick Ring (12-0) vs. Tim Boetsch (13-4) As Nick sashays into this bout he'll find a grizzly bear of a man looking to throw him onto the ground in a way Ring doesn't enjoy. The "Barbarian" may not be reborn at Middleweight but his superior strength and striking should stiffen Ring as he tries and fails to be a power bottom. The "0" will go as Boetsch sends Ring to the locker room sore but empty.
WINNER-Tim Boetsch by Decision

Prelims (On Facebook):
Junior Assuncao (13-4) vs. Eddie Yagin (15-4-1) Eddie could win this but I'm not sure he's quite ready for Jr. Assuncao who is a solid fighter. I also don't know much about either guy so take that into consideration.
WINNER-Junior Assuncao by Decision?

Takeya Mizugaki (14-6-2) vs. Cole Escovedo (17-7) I've always found Takeya to be a bit underrated. Miz only loses to the elite and the "Apache Kid" isn't.
WINNER-Takeya Mizugaki by Decision

James Te Huna (12-5) vs. Ricardo Romero (11-2) I'll take the Australian Robbie Lawler to dummy up the hittable and cardio challenged Romero in Upset fashion.
WINNER-James Te Huna by Rd.1 TKO
