UFC 246 McGregor vs. Cowboy: Fight Card, Picks, Prognostications, + Odds! & Updates!

January 18, 2020
T-Mobile Arena
Las Vegas, Nevada

Main Card on PPV (9pm/CT):

Conor McGregor (21-4) -350 vs. #4 Donald Cerrone (36-13) +290

What a wild exhausting ride it has been with "Mystic Mac." MMAFO jumped on board in '12 when the Irishman was tearing up Cage Warriors and could not believe his rapid rise to success like never before in MMA. Conor was taught time and time again that he could do no wrong as the UFC looked the other way in embarrassing fashion. Then, when the wheels fell off the bus, they played gobsmacked. Even so, McGregor is solely to blame for the situation he is in. The man was out-of-control on the daily with abhorrent behavior with no sense of reality and, if, the alleged sexual assault took place, Conor is dead to us forever. "Time will tell," as McGregor said.

So, the "Notorious" one returns from a tumultuous year off and what condition will he be in? Conor is already claiming he didn't take Khabib Nurmagomedov seriously so why should we believe he's motivated now? Provided he has cleansed himself of all the alcohol, drugs, and various toxins he's ingested, and running one's own camp suddenly became a good idea, we're sure he'll be fine.

"CowDad" has been finished in his last 2 outings having been (T)KO'd 6 total times in his career, and has gone through training camps for 51 MMA fights! Cerrone is in it for the love of the game but he's already stated he wants to fight even though he knows he'd have an advantage on the ground, so, that's dumb.

Provided Conor doesn't gas out immediately here, that left hand of doom is going to find "Cowboy's" chin and he's going to drop. McGregor is a great striker even if he did look "off" last out and with a willing dance partner, the King returns.

Holly Holm (12-5) -135 vs. Raquel Pennington (10-7) +115 [Rematch]

MMAFO's beloved "Preacher's Daughter" is returning from a head kick knockout loss to Amanda Nunes and a tendon injury that temporarily postponed this bout from it's original date at UFC 243. Still waiting on a response on that marriage proposal there Holly.

Pennington is a super tough over achiever. She isn't particularly athletic or super skilled in MMA, but she is durable and worked her way to a title shot (she lost) in '18. But really, that's as high as she is going to go. Raquel's career is about to go downhill. It's not all bad though as she still gets to go home to her lovely wife Tecia Torres and has had a career we can only dream about.

Anything can happen in MMA, bla, bla, bla, but this should be Holm's night. Holly is the better and more diverse striker and neither lady will be looking to go to the ground. Frankly, Holm is a better fighter and should win by a larger margin that the one in '15.

Aleksei Oleinik (57-13-1) +110 vs. Maurice Greene (8-3) -130

Why ya gotta do "Lexy" this way? We've got a soft spot for the 42 year old "Boa Constrictor" who has done quite well in the UFC with his dreaded "Ezekiel choke" at the ready.

"The Crochet Boss" is 6 foot freaking 8 and a kickboxer who is green as grass in MMA.

It doesn't take much anymore to knock down Oleinik and Greene certainly has the power to hurt him badly. However, if Maurice doesn't land quick and brutally, Aleksei is gonna trip takedown the big man and have his way. Fuck it! We're still riding with ya old man. Oleinik out games the gamer!

Upset Pick WiNNER-Aleksei Oleinik by Rd.1 Submission

Cláudia Gadelha versus Alexa Grasso is CANCELLED!

Alexa Grasso missed weight by over 5 pounds (!) and the commission (rightly) scrapped the bout.

Anthony Pettis (22-9) +190 vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira (16-2) -230

"Showtime" is desperately grasping at relevance in the UFC these days and what a change of fortunes this cat has had. Since losing the Lightweight belt in '15, "Pretty Tony" has gone 4-6 over 3 different weight classes. Granted, it has been tough competition but "Mr. Wheaties Box" is a fun but flawed fighter.

Never forget: Carlos Ferreira was flagged for an anti-doping violation and was suspended for 2 years! MMAFO doesn't forget.

A clean CDF is a solid prospect and provided he has learned his lesson, he rolls here hurting Pettis and at the least winning 2 rounds.

Roxanne Modafferi (23-16) +600 vs. Maycee Barber (8-0) -900

"The Happy Warrior" is one of the sweetest and most genuine people to have ever competed in MMA. Roxy is a true vet having done the damn thing for 17 years and fought all over the world. The Jedi has really worked hard on her striking and has always been good on the ground but over the last few years the improvements have been evident working at Syndicate MMA

"The Future" is here and she has no disappointed. Barber is a tender 21 years of age but she's light years ahead of most of her peers. Not only has Maycee remained undefeated, but only a single opponent has even made it to the judges. Fighting out of Roufusport, it's no surprise that the youngster is offense based with stellar striking and power.

Roxy needs to keep this on the ground but she is gonna get pieced up before she can do it. Not sure we're going to be able to watch this one.

Andre Fili (20-6) +125 vs. Sodiq Yusuff (10-1) -145

Everybody knows MMAFO loves us some "California Kid" Urijah Faber, but apparently not as much as Mr. Fili. Andre is now sporting a fresh tattoo on his leg of his mentor and coach and that's, well, to each their own we suppose. "Touchy" Fili credits Faber and Team Alpha Male for saving his very life after a very troubled youth and so that's very nice. We suppose. Anywho, Fili has been doing a better job of actually fighting with a game plan as of late and showing maturity with his skills.

"Super" Sodiq fights out of Team Gang Rape so fuck him and anyone else who trains with "Limp" Lloyd Irvin.

This should be a pretty exciting fight but Andre is coming into his own while Sodiq is still pretty new and hasn't shown a well rounded game as of yet. We like Fili to throw some things at Yusuff which he hasn't experienced yet and sneaks away with the win.

Upset Pick WiNNER-Andre Fili by Decision

Drew Dober (21-9) +275 vs. Nasrat Haqparast (11-2) -335

The Afghani is only 24, training with the great Tristar gym in Canada, and is the 2nd coming of Kelvin Gastelum

The Husker has been around for a while now going 7-5-1 and we know what we are gonna get at this point. Dober is a nice scrapper, but he isn't elite or even "gatekeeper" status.

Nasrat is going to come strong and get into a fun brawl with Drew before putting him away on the ground.

WiNNER-Nasrat Haqparast by Rd.2 TKO

Chas Skelly versus Grant Dawson has been CANCELLED.
Prelims on UFC Fight Pass (5:15pm/CT):

Aleksa Camur (5-0) -120 vs. Justin Ledet (9-2) +100

Get ready 205 division. The UFC has signed RIZIN Lightweight Champion Jiri Prochazka and the Czech is coming for your soul!

Meanwhile we have this. Camur is a rookie but explosive and young. Ledet did better at Heavyweight and is now struggling. Take the youngster to land something crazy against a guy in free fall.

WiNNER-Aleksa Camur by Rd.1 TKO

Tim Elliott (15-9-1) +125 vs. Askar Askarov (10-0-1) -145

Tim came into the UFC winning TUF 24 and aquatinted himself well against then champ Demetrious Johnson. Elliot then won 2 of 3 before tearing an ACL and being sidelined for a year. The Missouri native returned last October getting subbed in the opening round by Deiveson Figueiredo. Perhaps he was rusty, but Elliot has to have a good showing here to stay frosty.

The "Bullet" fought to an unsatisfying Split Draw in his debut but is still a "prospect" coming into his prime. Askarov wants to scramble and look for a submission much like Elliot.

"Nascar" Askar is a better version of Tim who tries to get his rhythm going.
WiNNER-Askar Askarov by Decision

Brian Kelleher (19-10) +125 vs. Ode Osbourne -145 (8-2,1)

"Ozzy" is the guy to watch here making his debut for the promotion on a 4-fight bounce and looking to be a player at Bantamweight.

"Boom" is fun as hell and always looking for the killshot! Kelleher missed a year due to injury and is hungry to mix things back up.

If you're looking to prop up the "new guy," Brian's the wrong one. "Whitey Mouse" has shocking power for the weight class and overwhelms before Osbourne can get rolling.

Upset Pick WiNNER-Brian Kelleher by Rd.2 TKO

Sabina Mazo (7-1 ) -115 vs. JJ Aldrich (8-3) -105

People are still sleeping on JJ to their detriment. MMAFO tried to tell ya after her debut loss to Juliana Lima in '16. Sure she lost, but she had skills, determination, and heart. Coupled with a strong work ethic and the coaching at Denver's 303 Training Center, she has developed raw skills into technical ability. We believe in less athletic people who just don't care about genetics and work harder than everyone else!

Since the loss, Aldrich has won 4 of 5 fights and at 27, she is not at her peak.

Mazo struggled to make weight but she is a Kings MMA product and a true prospect at the young age of 22. "The Colombian Queen" is still improving but this is "too much too young too fast," as Airbourne would say.

Upset Pick WiNNER-JJ Aldrich by Decision
