UFC 248 Adesanya vs. Romero: Fight Card, Picks, Prognostications + Odds

March 7, 2020
T-Mobile Arena
Las Vegas, Nevada
UFC 248 Fight Card:
Middleweight Champion #1 Israel Adesanya -260 vs. #4 Yoel Romero +240
Ballsy as fuck is the champ. There was no reason for newly undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya to take any fight after Paulo Costa pulled out of their proposed title fight. And yet, he decided to fight anyway and picked perhaps the most dangerous possible opponent for his game in the, definitely naturally built, Yoel Romero. Much respect sir.

"The Last Stylebender" joined the UFC in 2018 and tore through the competition amassing a 7-0 record for the promotion. Adesanya captured the Interim Middleweight belt against Kelvin Gastelum and then the real deal against Robert Whittaker at 30 years old. The dude has stellar kickboxing, amazing instincts, unshakable confidence, and heart in his war with Gastelum.

The "Soldier of God" has lost 3 of 4, and has cheated in multiple outings. Ya know, what would gay jesus do? Despite being a fraud, Romero takes it slower nowadays, opting to wait for openings for his patented explosions, while conserving energy. The Cuban has crazy power at all times and generally finishes foes when he wins.

This fight is dangerous as hell for Adesanya but he'll have a crazy reach and speed advantage, and Romero hasn't used his wrestling much as of late. Israel should be able to pick Yoel apart from distance and build speed while his opponent fades. We're going to be nervous for sure though. Smoke that Cuban "Izzy."

Strawweight Champion #1 Zhang Weili -185 vs. #4 Joanna Jędrzejczyk +170

Look, MMAFO loved Joanna long before anybody else and we backed her time and time again, but this bully
mentality isn't working on her opponents anymore and now she just comes off as a jerk. The gas mask post making light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak wasn't a great look either.

"Magnum" captured the belt in a stunning 0:42 second TKO last August, but nobody has been able to do much to her. Weili is on the precipice of becoming a superstar in China and Dana White is salivating. The Black Tiger Fight Club combatant has nasty power and is aggressive though unproven.

"The Boogywoman" is the former champ who took a stab at Strawweight but she's back where she belongs in the division she has owned save for one Rose Namajunas. Joanna "Violence" has strengthened her game with the amazing staff at ATT and we're a bit surprised people have been so down on her skills with premature talk of the division passing her by. Jedrzejczyk should be able to use volume to keep her opponent honest and try to slow Weili in the "championship rounds."

Zhang is definitely capable of finishing this fight early and emphatically, but MMAFO smells us an Upset! The longer this goes the more it favors the challenger and it's not a stretch to call Weili unproven. Joanna steps on the gas late and maybe throws in a few veteran tricks along the way to steal back her gold!

Upset Pick WiNNER-Joanna Jedrzejczyk by Decision

Beneil Dariush -162 vs. Drakkar Klose +152

The King's MMA fighter seems to be back in the groove having won 3 in a row and brimming with confidence. Dariush is great everywhere but the chin has been cracked before.

The cologne kingpin has put together a respectable record of 5-1 but he's got an ugly grinding style.

Klose somehow managed to piss of Dariush when their initial meeting got postponed and a little fire might do the normally stoic Beneil some good. Dariush is better everywhere and should roll.

WiNNER-Beneil Dariush by Decision

Neil Magny +157 vs. Li Jingliang -167

"I was once a contenda!" It's been hard times for Magny who once sported a 7-fight winning streak. As of late, the results have been mixed with Neil slipping outside the 170 Top 10 and needs to put some wins together. Magny is also returning from a long USADA suspension in which he was cleared of any wrongdoing, but left him inactive for 16 months! Neil uses his long limbs to strike from distance and ensnare grapplers on the mat. He has kinda peaked though.

"The Leech" has found his footing in the UFC winning 7 of 8 and giving China Top Team something to get behind. Jingliang has been efforting to start quicker and has become a striker as of late instead of leaning on his grappling skills.

It's been rough times for Magny but his absence seems to have people forgetting a bit how solid and well rounded he really is. Sure he isn't going to knockout anyone but he can amass points standing against Li and MMAFO believes he can win the grappling exchanges as well. The odds are strange and we're taking the American in a small Upset.

Sean O’Malley -330 vs. José Alberto Quiñónez +300

"Sugar" Sean is right when he said this week he hasn't done shit in MMA yet. The 25 year old has become a star after two UFC fights because of his quirks, affiliation with marijuana, and well, style. To be fair, the Montanan showed a lot of heart when injured last out and does have skills for days but the USADA violation wasn't a great look. Let's just all exhale a bit.

"El Teco" is here to get beaten and that is what he'll do. JAQ is solid, but he'll be a step behind everywhere.

Alex Oliveira -135 vs. Max Griffin +125

FUUUUUUUUUUUCK Alex Oliveira. How the hell is he being allowed to fight? This cunt (allegedlyassaulted his wife 9 months ago while she was pregnant! Besides beating her, he was accused of kidnapping their child, (he has 10 children with multiple women!), while drunk, on a motorcycle.

The Brazilian "Cowboy" cheated against Tim Means and Will Brooks, and he is on a 3-fight losing streak. Hey UFC, fire this asshole!

C'mon Max "Pain!" Beat this bitch out of the UFC.

Gerald Meerschaert +125 vs. Deron Winn -135

Winn is Daneil Cormier's protege over at AKA and is 1-1 in the UFC with a narrow loss in his last outing when he missed weight! Not good. Deron is also small in stature for the division at 5'6".

"GM3" isn't anything more than a test for Winn. Meerschaert needs a submission but he'll take a beating before he can get it.

Mark O. Madsen -215 vs. Austin Hubbard +195

"Mom" made a highly touted UFC debut last September and TKO'd his opponent in the opening round in front of his Denmark brethren. Madesen is an Olympic gold medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling but he is still learning the MMA game at the highest level.

Hubbard is 1-1 in the UFC and is good to give Mark a bit of a test but nothing Madsen can't pass.

WiNNER-Mark Madsen by Rd.2 TKO

Rodolfo Vieira -570 vs. Saparbek Safarov +480

Another showcase bout features "The Black Belt Hunter" who is a Jiu-Jitsu world champion and making the move to MMA. We're all here just to watch Vieira's development and see which submission he uses to end the fight.

Emily Whitmire versus Polyana Viana is Cancelled!

Whitmire missed weight on Friday and then was taken to the hospital Saturday causing the cancellation.

Giga Chikadze +160 vs. Jamall Emmers -170

"Prettyboy has earned his shot at the big dance and shouldn't have much trouble taking out the Georgian here.

WiNNER-Jamall Emmers by Decision

Danaa Batgere -120 vs. Guido Cannetti +110

The Guido "Ninja" has alternated wins with losses in a pretty fun style. We're not sure Batgere belongs in the UFC and we'll take the tested vet in the Upset.

Upset Pick WiNNER-Guido Cannetti by Decision
