The Best Bellator & UFC Fights For August 7th & 8th

Bellator 243

Michael Chandler (20-5) vs. Benson Henderson (28-8) [Rematch]

“Bendo” has quietly gone on a 4-fight winning streak while Mike has been feuding with the “Pitbull Brothers.”

This is a strange one. Ben is still “Smooth” but he’s always competing to steal the round and not win it. Mike is far more consistent but he seems to wear the damage of the years more than most.

This should be pretty entertaining but ya gotta lean toward Chandler who wants to establish a legacy over a guy just collecting a paycheck.

Matt Mitrione (13-7) vs. Timothy Johnson (13-6)

Oh “Meathead,” MMAFO has long been in your corner, but it’s time to right the ship and make gains, or move into the “bumping gums” business. The Hoosier lost his shot at Bellator gold to Ryan Bader, then kicked Sergei Kharitonov in the pills creating a ‘No Contest,’ only to rematch Russian last year at this time, only to get viciously TKO’d. It’s been rough.

Matty sat for a bit and we hope he’s got his game on point and is ready to make a final run to the title.

Mitrione is younger that his 42 years of age (he came to MMA late) and still maintains a speed and agility advantage over most foes. Matt has power in the hands and the leg kicks are a threat as well.

The Highway Patrol’s MMA representative is a decent enough sort, but he shouldn’t pose much of a threat to Mitrione.

Myles Jury (18-5) vs. Georgi Karakhanyan (29-10-1)

Similar to the Benson Henderson comment, MMAFO doesn’t feel like3 Jury really likes MMA, but rather is just good at it. He’s in his “prime” but we haven’t seen any improvement in the last 3 years.

“Insane” is a Bellator staple. The guy has been doing the damn thing for a long time and has earned respect. Georgi can do it all and we like his moxie to put the work on Myles.

Valerie Loureda (2-0) vs. Tara Graff (1-1)

There’s a lot of haters out there raggin’ on ATT’s new Flyweight. It remains to be seen how far she can go but let’s all just calm down. A pretty lady who works hard for her body is allowed to show it however she feels. That aspect of her life has nothing to do with MMA and MMAFO moves on.

UFC Fight Night 174

Derrick Lewis (23-7) vs. Alexey Oleynik (59-13-1)

The beloved “Black Beast” is a supernova of power and a genuinely hilarious, good person. MMAFO just loves this dude!

Speaking of those in MMA we admire, “The Boa Constrictor” is 43, has no knees, can’t punch worth a shit, and is still out there bangin’ and subbin’ fools. The master of the “Ezekiel Choke” will tap you if you hit the canvas.

Lewis has been annoyed at his own _ and has vowed to come out guns blazing against Alexey. It’s gonna be rough and quick. Barring a misstep Derrick wins this early and violently.

WiNNER-Derrick Lewis by Rd.1 KO

Chris Weidman (14-5) vs. Omari Akhmedov (20-4-1)

“We’re breathing Chris!” The former champ has lost 5 of 6 all by (T)KO! MMAFO told y’all mofo’s back in ’15 when we correctly predicted Luke Rockhold would take his belt. Weidman is now 36, and though a talented grappler, he seems very fragile and one more KO away from retirement. Jumping back and forth between 185 and 205 isn’t likely helping his aging body either.

Sirazhudinovich has won 5 of 6 (1 Draw) but this is the biggest step up in competition to date. The “Wolverine” has serious power but he should be at a disadvantage on the ground.

Though it seems just blowing on Chris will put him to sleep, he’s a much better all around fighter and he should win this provided he is not completely shot. This is Weidman’s last chance but we think he earns a big sigh of relief.

Yana Kunitskaya (12-5) vs. Julija Stoliarenko (9-3-2)

“Foxy” Yana is a bit underrated and makes an awesome MMA “power couple” with Thiago Santos.

Truth be told, we have no idea who Julija is and expect Kunitskaya to pad the record.

Beneil Dariush (18-4-1) vs. Scott Holtzman (14-3)

“C’mon Beneil! We’re big fans of the King’s MMA fighter but complaining about your opponent’s lack of ranking and then coming in over weight, is a back look.

Scott is already a hothead and the trash talk has fueled his Ginger anger. This could be a recipe for disaster for Dariush.

Normally, Dariush is the strong pick here but he does have a tricky chin. We’re still with Beneil but he has to be smart and keep his head tucked.
