The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale Picks

ULTIMATE FIGHTER 10 Finale: December 5, 2009
On SPIKE TV in Las Vegas, Nevada

Main Bouts (On Spike TV):
Roy Nelson (13-4) vs. Brendan Schaub (4-0) The "Hybrid" (what?) sure has the world fired up for a guy who was getting beat handily by Marcus Jones before landing an ass saving punch. I'm not so impressed with the guy yet and if you think you saw the real "Big Country" on TUF you are sadly mistaken. Far more out of shape than normal, Roy fought smart and conservative en route to a predictable TUF finals appearance. People see a fat guy not a dude who actually has good striking, endurance, a floor game which Schaub has none, and an iron chin. Everyone is picking Brendan and maybe they know something I don't, but I'm not buying the hype.........yet.
WINNER-"Big Country" by Decision
Jon Jones (9-0) vs. Matt Hamill (6-2) Despite all the much deserved love for "Bones" creative offense, Hamill isn't a chump in this fight. Matt is tough and improved his heavy hands in recent fights but tends to run out of gas a bit and is definitely a lay and pray kinda guy. If Jones doesn't go completely Jet Li crazy out there, he should unleash target practice on Hamill till he verbally taps out though the referee won't be able to tell what he is saying.
WINNER-Jon Jones by Rd.3 TKO
Kimbo Slice (3-1) vs. Houston Alexander (9-4) Really. Really? Do either of these guys deserve a roster spot in the UFC? Uggghh. Both men throw heavy punches and both have questionable chins. The planet Houston also has Muay Thai and if you think this fight is going to the floor you are as stupid as the people who watch and demand more "reality" dance shows. Maybe Slice should try that venue next.
WINNER-The Planet Houston by Rd.1 KO
Frankie Edgar (10-1) vs. Matt Veach (11-0) I like both of these cats but Veach is stepping in last minute for a hurt Kurt Pelligrino. Matt comes from the HIT Squad and I don't think this fight is going to be as much of a wash as people think. Edgar developed a mixed stand up game to throttle Sean Sherk, but it will be his old school wrestling that gets the job done here on a relentless opponent. Frank has so much more experience at the elite level and far more ways to win the points game.
WINNER-Mr. Edgar by Decision
Marcus Jones (4-1) vs. Matt Mitrione (0-0) Oh the lovable big man takes on the hated man from this years TUF. Matt is a striker (sort of) with not much on the ground and an ability to quit in a fight before you slap on the submission. The "Darkness (he picked the name) has great Jiu-Jitsu, enormous size, powerful hands (though lackluster striking), and a glass jaw. Matt obviously has 1 shot at this so I'll play the percentages and take....
WINNER-"Big Baby" by Rd.2 Submission

Prelims (Non-Televised):
James McSweeney (3-4) vs. Darrill Schoonover (10-0) Besides the obvious distance in the fight record, McSweeney the TUF bully is favored by quite a few people coming out of the Greg Jackson camp training with Keith Jardine and Rashad Evans for the bout. I can't say I'm as confident with his glaring weaknesses on the floor and the fact "Titties" has a great stand up game as well as the submissions in his toolbox. I'm looking for Darrill to have a chip on his shoulder from all the shit he took on the show and gaining a sloppy takedown before the tapout.
WINNER-The "Boss?" by Rd.2 Submission
Justin Wren (6-1) vs. Jon Madsen (2-0) This seems like one of the closest and toughest matches to call. Both are basically wrestling machines and don't impress much on the feet. Justin has the reach advantage and the better undies (check the weigh-ins ladies) but Madsen has the tutelage of the HIT Squad with Matt Hughes and cornerman Robbie Lawler. I'll take the "Viking" who seems to have a bit more standing.
WINNER-Justin Wren by Decision
Brian Stann (7-2) vs. Rodney Wallace (9-0) I guess we should pick the "All-American" based upon his resume but I've been watching "Sho Nuff" in the minors for a while and waiting for him to be tested. This may be a bit too much too early but anything can happen in a fight.
WINNER-Brian Stann by Decision
Dennis Hallman (41-12-2) vs. John Howard (12-4) I'm not so sure as to why the UFC brought back the never impressive Hallman unless its for Matt Hughes (man, he is all over this event) to avenge his 2 tapout losses to "Superman" in 2000 and 1998. "Doomsday" has impressed me since he came in fighting stiff competition immediately and grinding out 2 Split-Decision wins. Dennis has zero stand up ability but is a stud on the floor. I just think Rod is going to be all over him pounding and pounding on the durable veteran.
WINNER-"Doomsday" Howard by Decision
Mark Bocek (7-2) vs. Joe Brammer (7-0-1) Joe makes his entrance into Zuffa's world and wades in far too deep for a kid who should be fighting at Featherweight. The gritty tough Bocek has won 2 in a row, this will be his 6th fight in the Octagon making him far more comfortable, and is constantly improving with ATT. This has ginger power written all over it.
WINNER-Mark Bocek by Rd.2 Submission

*By the by, Quinton Jackson has shockingly returned to the UFC to fight. Let's see if he shows up the the finale so he and Rashad Evans can get far too close to each other for the teenage boys watching at home to feel comfortable.
