Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
The UFC returns to the great land of Canada with 7 homeboys, a title Rematch, a #1 contenders bout, the guy with the worst chin in all of MMA (I'm looking at you Goulet), and Kimbo Slice whom the people care about but I don't. Its Canada versus the world!
Main Bouts (PPV):
Light Heavyweight Champion (thanks to 3 blind judges) Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida (16-0) vs. Uncrowned Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (18-4) After the robbery that was the last title fight between these 2 men, we return to settle the score for I'm guessing another 5 rounder. "Shogun" surprised Machida by remaining calm and out countering the counter Champion. I hope to see a bit more aggression from both men in the rematch and maybe a clinch war will break out between 2 guys who command the Muay Thai style well, but didn't use it much in the previous affair. Neither man wanted the ground last time but I would be shocked if Rua didn't try to get things there this time. The guy has some sub skills but mainly its his brutal G&P that I think would be most effective. The problem is not only getting that takedown, but just plain being able to touch the elusive pseudo-champ. The deceptive power of Lyoto and great game planning makes me think Machida won't be surprised by the leg assault again leading to a tactical victory as always. For the record, I hope "Shogun" knocks "The Dragon" into oblivion.

WINNER-Lyoto Machida by a legitimate Decision this time
Josh Koscheck (14-4) vs. Paul Daley (23-8-2) [Welterweight #1 Contender Bout] The build up for this fight has been amusing with Daly calling "Kos" a "fraggle," held a Photoshop contest mocking Josh with the help of the fans, and a claim to Koscheck's teeth after the fight. Funny shit but as he tried to goad "Sideshow Kos" into a war on the feet, Josh remained calm and intelligenter. "Paul Daley keeps saying ‘stand toe-to-toe with me.’ Well, how ‘bout we go out there and get in a wrestling stance?" Oh so simple and true as "Semtex" is a good striker, but has nothing else in his MMA bag o' tricks. Josh is going to wrestle him down and choke him out just as he has predicted. Fight smart, win early, and next will be the rematch with GSP.
WINNER-Josh Koscheck by Rd.2 Submission
Jeremy Stephens (16-5) vs. Sam Stout (15-5-1) The "Lil Heathen" meets "Hands Of Stone" (who hasn't had a KO since 2007 mind you) in a battle of the average that is inexplicably on the PPV. I'd rather see any of the Prelims in this spot but what ever. Stephens is a wrestler by trade with power but sloppy striking. Stout is a kickboxer with zero ground game but good takedown defense, elite cardio, and a tendency to allow his fights to be decided by judges which is always a good idea. I care very little about this bout so lets take the Canadian and move on.
WINNER-Sam Stout
Kimbo Slice (4-1) vs. Matt Mitrione (1-0) This fight is lame for so many reasons none more important than the fact it is set up for Kimbo to win thus making the UFC more $money$ on the name of a street fighter who still isn't very good at MMA. Fucking stupid and how dare they put this on the main card not to mention expecting it to sway you into purchasing a PPV. (shakes head and mumbles to self) I am finding myself amused at Matt's lack of fear for Kimbo and hope he takes Slice's head off. The 2 almost fought backstage after the weigh-ins so this might get interesting yet.
WINNER-Kimbo by Decision
Alan Belcher (15-6) vs. Patrick Cote (13-5) Now here is a competitive and interesting fight. The new "Predator" has been out for 2 years with a brutal knee injury after hanging with Anderson Silva for 3 rounds. The "Talent" has looked really good in his last 4 attempts (including the judges rape versus Yoshihiro Akiyama) but when they clinch up there is no escaping Cote's power. I can already hear the "Cote-Cote-Cote" chants in Canada lifting GSP's good buddy to a highlight reel return.
WINNER-Patrick Cote by Rd.3 KO
Prelims (Non-Televised):
Joe Doerksen (44-12) vs. Tom Lawlor (6-2) "El Dirte" vs "The Filthy Mauler" leads to a grimy fight as Joe returns to the UFC after amassing 5 straight wins and Lawlor tries to rebound from a Split-Decision loss last time out. Both men enjoy the floor plan but Doerksen is a veteran with 32 submission wins in his career so I doubt Tommy Boy will test his Jiu-Jitsu Saturday. Despite only a 5 year age difference, a long career has taken its toll on Joe who looks about 50 these days. Expect Tom to turn up the pace wearing down the guy who has survived 56 pro bouts before he puts Doerkson down and out of the UFC for the final time. Also, watch Lawler beg for your attention at the weigh-ins in some odd getup or hair/beard style. This guy tries to hard to be funny and it comes off as needy more than anything.

WINNER-"The Filthy Mauler" by Rd.2 TKO
Jonathan Goulet (22-10) vs. Marcus Davis (16-6) Glass jaw has been brought back yet again, this time to face the "Irish Hand Grenade." Obviously, this is supposed to be a gimme fight for Davis who was battered violently in his last outing against "Killa-B" which not only cost him any hope of reaching a title shot, but allowed the whispers to begin about early retirement for the cut heavy faced Irishman. Time to rebound against the guy everyone rebounds against who has been KO'd 7 times in his career and a mere 33 seconds into his last bout. Even his fellow Canadians know Goulet doesn't have a shot in hell.

Yoshiyuki Yoshida (11-4) vs. Mike Guymon (11-3-1) A lot of hype came with Yoshida's entrance to the UFC but he has gone an average at best 2-2 since. Now "Zenko" looks to make it 1 in a row against a guy who must have a friend in management, because he ain't good enough to be here. The 36 year old is going to get caught in the clinch by a stronger opponent over and over until his night is over.

Tim Hague (10-3) vs. Joey Beltran (11-3) I would say the "Mexicutioner" embarrassed Rolles Gracie last time out, but he really did that on his own. Still it was an impressive win for the short little engine that could on short notice. The "Thrashing Machine" got cut after a couple of tough losses but the former Kindergarten teacher was granted clemency to work in his homeland once again. He'll enjoy a massive size and reach advantage against a fellow bomb thrower which will excite the crowd, but to be honest, Beltran isn't UFC material. Sloppy but powerful striking is fine against a Gracie, but not against Hague. Sorry but the minor leagues are calling.

T.J. Grant (15-3) vs. Johny Hendricks (7-0) Epic beard has won 6 of his last 7 and has his home country in his corner. The undefeated Oklahoman would rather keep this standing or use his wrestling and top control avoiding Grant's decent submissions. Johny will be stronger and more agile controlling the pace of the fight with more offensive wrestling while showing his improving game as the more stagnant T.J. will become frustrated en route to a loss via points.

Jason MacDonald (24-13) vs. John Salter (4-1) I knew the "Athlete" would be back someday, but it took only 3 straight wins and the Canadian ginger returns. Pure guts and a slick submission game will meet a developing wrestler though I believe the striking will be equal. MacDonald can work well off his back gunning for submissions or landing slashing elbows but the wrestling will bring the loss on the judges cards.
