Alistair Overeem (10-4 K-1) has become the 1st MMA champion to also be crowned the K-1 World Grand Prix champion, after he defeated fellow Dutchman Peter Aerts to win the title in Japan.It has long been a dream of the "Demolition Man" to win the greatest kickboxing tournament in the world. Hailing from the legendary line of Dutch kickboxers, Alistair pursued his dream for 11 long years while simultaneously competing in MMA bouts including becoming the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion.
At the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix Finals, Overeem rattled off 3 consecutive victories, the final being the TKO win over Peter Aerts.
In the finals, an even more yoked than normals Overeem simply overwhelmed Aerts, who had taken some serious shots earlier in the night in his battle with 2009 Grand Prix champion Semmy Schilt. Alistair just dominated the older warrior with crushing body shots and dropped him with clubbing head shots before the referee saved Peter.
