UFC 131 Dos Santos vs Carwin: Picks & Prognostications Yay!

UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin
June 11, 2011
Rogers Arena
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Main Card (PPV):
Junior Dos Santos (12-1) vs. Shane Carwin (12-1) I don't know that I buy into this new Carwin that dropped 30 lbs. of muscle and is now full of endurance. JDS is far fresher and better in every way. I've never seen this amazing wrestling people claim Shane has. I've seen Carwin hurt Brock Lesnar, and then lose the fight. And he beat up the sturdy Frank Mir and Gabriel Gonzaga. JDS has beaten Stefan Struve, Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel Gonzaga as well, Gilbert Yvel, Mirko Filipovic, and Roy Relson thoroughly. Prove me wrong Shane.
WINNER-Junior Dos Santos by Rd.3 TKO

Kenny Florian (13-5) vs. Diego Nunes (16-1) It's been said a lot but not enough, Kenny Florian is the 1st and only UFC fighter to compete in 4 weight classes! "Kenflo" said he wanted a challenge and he got it. Nunes comes in as one of Jose Aldo's running mates at Nova Uniao, and one of the hottest Featherweight prospects today. Kenny made weight no problem but how does he handle the speed here and the non-stop leg attack of Diego. The "Gun" is legit but ya gotta roll with the Bostonian who has emerged as a brilliant MMA mind and can use his new found power (Pantera!) to elbow Diego through the mat. I don't know that he stops him but Florian finds a way to get things done. Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is next
WINNER-Kenny Florian by Decision

Jon Oliv Einemo (7-1) vs. Dave Herman (20-2) Many MMA fans have long thought "Pee Wee" paid his dues to enter the UFC and now he gets the chance against Pride FC veteran and Jiu-Jitsu ace studying with Golden Glory, the "Viking." The 5 year hiatus is over and Einemo shocks Dave's world battering him into a mistake (which he often makes) and then a tapout.
UPSET PICK WINNER-Jon Oliv Einemo by Rd.2 Submission

Demian Maia (14-2) vs. Mark Munoz (10-2) Mark needs to land a bomb quick before he is sucked to the ground and tapped out before his hippo ears can wiggle. Maia is no fool and grounds his opponent but takes a beating for it.
WINNER-Mark Munoz by Decision

Donald Cerrone (14-3) vs. Vagner Rocha (6-1) Mac Danzig talked the trash and then pulled out of the fight with a, ahem, injury. Wink wink to Mac the coward as the "Cowboy" looks for his 2nd UFC win and gets it over a not-yet-ready-for-prime-time-player.
WINNER-Donald Cerrone by Decision

Prelims (On Spike TV):
Sam Stout (16-6-1) vs. Yves Edwards (40-16-1) The "Thugjitsu Master" needs to work very hard on the mat here. If he decides to stand with Stout he is going to pay with a grueling loss. I'm not sure Edwards will get past Stout's takedown defense too often as Sam uses his technical striking to out point the veteran. Big Yves fan and hope I'm wrong.
WINNER-Sam Stout by Decision

Jesse Bongfeldt (21-7-1) vs. Chris Weidman (5-0) Jesse's a pretty tough kid bug this is Matta Serra's apprentice. Weidman's wrestling is all day here people.
WINNER-Chris Weidman by Decision

Prelims:
Krzysztof Soszynski (25-11-1) vs. Mike Massenzio (12-4) Ze "Polish Experiment" meets his 3rd different opponent in the last few hours as M&M steps in at a new weight class. Mikey has nothing for Soszynski who batters him for 15 minutes of fun.
WINNER-Krzysztof Soszynski by Decision

Nick Ring (11-0) vs. James Head (7-1) Jeezus Nick Wing is back after skimming by Riki Fukuda in controversial Bi-Decision fashion. Head ("dream opponent") Upset Gerald Harris his last time out and looks to continue the roll. Never trust the rickety knee Nick wobbles around on instead James gives Nick a pounding. Heyo!
UPSET PICK WINNER-James Head by Decision

Dustin Poirier (9-1) vs. Jason Young (8-3) "Diamond" shocked heralded Featherweight Josh Grispi with an Upset win while Young is taking a big leap in competition here. We gonna stand and throw bones as "Diamond" sharpens up his game before facing top tier competition.
WINNER-Dustin Poirier by Rd.3 TKO

Joey Beltran (12-5) vs. Aaron Rosa (16-3) The "Mexicutioner" is tough as they come but he's faced brutal competition that has kept him from the winners circle. The trend continues as Aaron out works Joe on the ground frustrating the striker into his 3rd loss in a row.
WINNER-Aaron Rosa by Decision

Michihiro Omigawa (12-9-1) vs. Darren Elkins (12-2) Ya gotta like the veterans chances here with his solid game to beat most at Featherweight including this guy that got embarrassed in his previous bout.
WINNER-Oh My Godwa by Decision
