Bellator 123 Curran vs. "Pitbull" 2: Picks & Prognostications

September 5, 2014
Mohegan Sun Arena
Uncasville, Connecticut

Daddy Dana is being a right dick this weekend, trying to put his foot on the neck of Bellator as they reposition the company with Scott Coker taking over the reigns. At 1st glance you think, oh, there are some names on here this might be interesting. Then you closely view the match ups and realize the card is shit. Hey, give Scotty some time and he'll bring you a good, solid product. In the meantime, we sit and suffer through the shit of another "season" of Bellator before they move to a once a month product more suitable for fans. Plus, fighters have to know they are fighting for their jobs each appearance with a new boss in town so the weakest of fights may produce fireworks. On to the nose picking.

Main Card on Spike TV:
Featherweight Champion Pat Curran (20-5) vs. Patricio Freire (21-2)

“Pitbull” only had to win the Bellator Featherweight tournament twice to finally get his title shot. Patricio is on a 4 fight tear (stopping 3 of those opponents) since losing a very close Split Decision to Patty in January of 2013. Now the Nogueira trained Brazilian looks to take what he believes is rightfully his.

“Patty Mike” just got his strap back after sneaking out a RNC victory over Daniel Straus with 0:14 seconds left in the fight! It was exciting sure, but if Dan had been able to hold on for those final few moments, he likely would have retained said belt. Curran has admitted to depression issues in losing the belt, but in the rematch, he seemed slower, not well prepared, and took a lot of damage on the feet. Pat just didn’t seem as on point at he normally is.

So here is the worry for Pat, he is notably a counter striker who is facing a hit 1st to kill, foe. Curran has to avoid those big KO attempts from “Pitbull” (he has 9 career (T)KO’s) and keep his wits should he tumble to the mat where Freire has tapped 7 men. Not to mention, Freire prolly got robbed in the initial encounter, Curran has just looked off for a while now, and angered “Pitbull” seems ready to take the next step. We’re calling it people, an Upset Win for the underdog challenger and the crowning of a new Bellator Champion in their new Scott Coker era!
Upset Pick WINNER Patricio Freire by Rd.3 TKO

Muhammed Lawal (12-4) vs. Tom DeBlass (9-2)

Two opponents fell out and DeBlass got the last minute call up for a 2nd go at the big leagues (he lost in both of his UFC appearances). He’s a striker (& a Middleweight for shit's sake), so “King Mo” is going to take him down and do the dirty grind until time expires and he can grab the mic to say some funny shit like calling former Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney a “dick rider,” on national TV. The mic work is pretty much all Mo has going for him.
WINNER Muhammed Lawal by Decision

Bobby Lashley (10-2) vs. Josh Burns (8-7)

Burns has lost all 4 of his previous Bellator appearances and is here to get murdered. Maybe he can get a big shot in on Bobby or survive to the 2nd when the TNA Champion usually gasses out. Doubtful though.
WINNER Bobby Lashley by Boring Decision

Lavar Johnson (18-9) vs. Cheick Kongo (21-9-2)

Can Kongo dry hump Lavar for the full 15, or will Johnson land the bomb? MMAFO used to be “Big” (pun intended) Johnson fans until he got caught cheating and brought some bullshit excuses to the table for an explanation. Both of these guys suck so who really cares?
WINNER Cheick Kongo by Decision
