Gilbert Burns tapped Christos Giagos with an Armbar at 4:57 of the 1st round bringing his UFC record to 2-0. MMAFO is also 2-0 to start out the evenings picks.

Fox Sports 1 Prelims
Andre Fili vs. Felipe Arantes

Rd.1 The action begins with both men immediately getting after it. Arantes is throwing an array of kicks to gauge distance until Fili takes him to the ground. Andre is working strikes from top only to take an upkick. Arantes works his way on top and quickly into full mount much to the delight of the Brazilian crowd. Felipe drops some big elbows but now Fili spins out and lands a knee to the body. Arantes is sitting up against the cage which allows Fili to land punches easily while standing. Fili lands a knee to the head and the men break apart to re-stand. A nice body kick followed by a 1-2 for Fili but he has a small cut on his forehead. Fili is unleashing knees in a Thai plum but Arantes calls him on showing to affect. The "Touchy" one catches a kick and lands a takedown in the final seconds to seal the round for the blue corner. (10-9 Fili)

Rd.2 Fili comes out with a jab and lands another body kick but Arantes uses a body lock to get his opponent to the mat. Fili rolls through on to top position yet again showing his great Alpha Male wrestling skills. Arantes goes for the leglock and uses it to get top position himself. Felipe drops some sharp, nasty elbows down, and Fili lands an upkick to the face but Arantes was still seated thus making it illegal. We start again and Fili sprawls well against the takedown and gets the takedown himself. Arantes transitions and on top presses Fili to the canvas. Fili pushes Arantes away with both feet and hits the takedown. We have a takedown war people! Andre ends the round on top landing a few elbows. (10-9 Fili)

Rd.3 Its the final frame in a pretty close fight and in Brazil, the judging can go anywhere. Arantes tries a standing guillotine but Fili shrugs him off and lands in the Chute Boxe members guard. Andre moves into side control and Fili makes a mistake in an errant choke attempt. Felipe lands two elbows but Fili makes his way back to the feet. Fili hits a knee to the body backing away and a leg kick as Arantes stuffs a takedown attempt. Felipe presses Fili against the leg and gets him down with the single leg. Fili throws up and arm bar/triangle choke but can't secure it. Back up for only a second as Fili takes the Brazilian back down. A lunging punch from Fili as time expires. (10-9 Fili)
Fight Score- C+

The official judges see it 29-28 3x for Andre "Touchy" Fili who looks shocked at the win!

Scott Jorgensen vs. Wilson Reis

Rd.1 Its Scotty J time and lets hope "Young Guns" can pull the Upset! Jorgensen is landing light leg kicks but an overhand right drops Reis! Wilson gets back to his feet and the announcers talked all the way through the knockdown not even noticing it! Scotty's striking is looking good and we discover that Jorgensen missed weight because of a late flight cancellation to Rio which explains a lot. Reis isn't covering the distance to land as offensive output slows for both men. A big body kick lands for Reis and Wilson takes Scotty J down who looked hurt. Rapid fire punches from Reis who moves into the head and arm-triangle choke with the American trapped against the cage, and Jorgensen taps out! A shame, but a solid win for the Brazilian. "Submission of the Night"
Fight Score- C+

Wilson Reis submits Scott Jorgensen with a Head and Arm-Triangle Choke at 3:28 of the 1st round.

* Upon hearing the impact of the body kick Jorgensen has to have a broken rib. Damn!

Time to waste some time as the card is going quickly, so we journey to the Fox Sports Studio with Daniel Cormier, Jay Glazer and douche bag Dominick Cruz for a little nonsense talk.

Yan Cabral vs. Naoyuki Kotani

Rd.1 And now for the squash match of the evening Pride FC style (that's not to say because Kotani is Japanese, but the fact that he is about to get murdered in a total mismatch). Anywho, Yan misses with a high kick and later a straight right hand. The right high kick lands the 2nd time and Kotani finally lands a right hand as they clinch up. Its Kotani reversing the takedown attempt and landing on top. Cabral is using the butt scoot to get his hips free and try for a reversal. Nao can't hold him there and they go back to standing. Kotana whiffs with a kick and Cabral hops on top of him. The Japanese fighter is defending well Yan isn't doing anything offensive and the lame round ends. (10-9 Cabral)

Rd.2 Kotani is just using his upper body strength to thwart the takedown attempts but eventually Yan drags him to the mat. Nao stands back up with Cabral clinging to his back for a moment. Both men are testing with their jabs but neither is landing anything. Again, Cabral drags Kotani to the mat and gets both hooks in as he looks for a choke from the back. Yan sinks it in deeply and Naoyuki submits.
Fight Score- D+

Yan Cabral taps out Naoyuki Kotani by RNC at 3:06 of the 2nd round.

We see footage of Anderson "Spider" Silva entering the arena and the Rio crowd rightly erupts in raucous applause!

Neil Magny vs. William Macario

Rd.1 Macario is calling Magny on early, almost mocking his punching power (or lack thereof). The men clinch battle against the cage Neil lands an uppercut on the break. A stiff left from Will but Neil answers back with two. A left hook lands for Macario and eventually Neil begins to land more often but they are just glancing blows. A good body kick from Magny and then the jab gets stiffer. "Patolino" stuffs a weak takedown attempt and shoots on a single leg that is defended well by the American to end the round. (10-9 Magny)

Rd.2 We begin again and we now see leg kicks and a push kick from Magny. Neil is rotating his jab oddly but "Patolino" is landing rarely. Macario backs Neil against the fence and lands a nice combination which seems to fire up the American. Neil comes forward wildly with two right hooks that miss and a left hurts Magny against the cage with the left hand. Macario presses Neil down to his knee against the cage and begins landing some punishment. Then the American takes the Brazilian down and into mount! Neil postures up and begins reigning down some punches as William turtles and then scoots to the cage. Magny ends the round on top landing some real good strikes. (10-9 Magny)

Rd.3 "Let him shoot his wad and then you crush" is the advice in Magny's corner between rounds. A nice leg kick from Neil and Will can't find the range. A short right from Neil and he presses forward landing a three punch combination taking the Brazilian down and unloading shots much like in the last round! Magny is in side control and dropping both fists while standing because of his long reach advantage. Magny is just pouring it on and after multiple warnings to defend himself and the referee steps in and halts the contest. Macario doesn't pop back up and looks tired and beaten on the mat. "Breakout Performance of the Night"
Fight Score- B

Neil Magny TKO'd William Macario at of the 3rd round with Strikes.

* Neil Magny with his 5th win of 2014 ties Roger Huerta for the most wins in a single year!!

Going into the PPV portion of the night, MMAFO is a perfect 7-0 in the picking game!!

UFC 179 PPV

Beneil comes out to Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" which is an oddly humorous choice. Perhaps Dariush is planning to "dance the night away" with Ferreira.

Carlos Ferreira vs. Beneil Dariush

Rd.1 Not to be racist, but Carlos looks like a monkey. I mean c'mon! Those ears and the expression on his face says it all. Anywho, Ben lands a nice kick and catches Ferreira coming in with a punch. The men trade a few punches and then a stern leg kick from Dariush lands. Beneil misses with a high kick and Carlos presses in with a takedown attempt but Dariush reverses the Brazilian into the cage as they battle for position before ultimately breaking apart. Ferreira is chasing and lands some good punches for a moment. They clinch up and Ben uses a body lock to take his opponent down. Carlos looks for a heel hook while Beneil lands some punches in a close initial round. (10-9 Dariush)

Rd.2 A solid leg kick starts for the Iranian who works hard for the takedown but he can't get it done. Some light knees from Ben while holding Ferreira in the body lock and a lot of hand fighting. A head kick backs Dariush away but he answers with a slapping leg kick. A good body shot from Ben and a body kick lands hard after. Beneil ducks for a single leg and just pushes Carlos to the mat taking top position. Dariush is pressuring but not doing much as Ferreira is seemingly trapped on his back and possibly tiring. Ben's doing just enough to not get stood up and easily won the round. (10-9 Dariush)

Rd.3 Carlos shows some life with a short flurry and then lands some real hard uppercuts as Beneil drags him to the ground but Ferreira deftly rolls back to his feet. Not for long as Ben takes him back down ahead on the cards and staying busy. Carlos's mouth is open and is marked up a bit under his eyes. Now two solid elbows from Dariush but a nice elbow answer from the bottom fighter. Ferreira uses the rubber guard to push his opponent away but doesn't pop up and Beneil just dives back down into his guard. The Iranian punishes the Brazilian who tries to stand as Ben stays attached to his back. A well timed knee lands and time expires. (10-9 Dariush)
Fight Grade- C

Beneil Dariush Upsets Carlos Ferreira by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).

Bethe Correia is shown in the crowd and the "Four Horsewomen Hunter" is looking rather lovely and possibly stalking Miesha Tate.

Lucas Martins vs. Darren Elkins

Rd.1 We're not expecting much from this contest but let's give em a chance. Elkins uses a trip to take Martins down and into his world. Lucas with the lid on, pops back up and Elkin hits a nice right hand backing away to reset. The Brazilian looks a weight class larger than Darren and puts out a stiff jab. Elkins shoots in again but Martins base is solid denying him. The American presses Martins against the fence and not much happens. A mic inside leg kick from Elkins and even a Superman punch attempt that doesn't connect. Lucas grabs the fence to prevent a takedown attempt but eats some punches for it. Darren has a cut under his right cheek but he easily won the round. (10-9 Elkins)

Rd.2 A left hook lands for Martins off the bat and Elkins is awkwardly moving in for takedown attempts. A knee to the body and some pot shots against the cage for the American as the crowd grows restless. Darren punches his way in and presses Lucas against the cage. A looping left hand lands for Elkins and then a right followed by a left land for Martins his best efforts of the night. A big head kick hurt Elkins behind the ear and Martins is now pressing him against the cage. They're grappling in the phone booth and Darren is staying very busy while hanging, and tiring Martins until the round closes. (10-9 Elkins)

Rd.3 Elkins eats a knee shooting in and then a right knee stands the American up. Darren is diving in for takedowns from further out and finding less success while leaving himself open for those counters. Elkins is doing what he do, pressuring Martins against the cage and he eats another knee from the Brazilian. Elkins is a wet blanket as the men grapple against the cage to a chorus of boo's until the referee breaks them apart. Guess what, we're right back against the cage as the boo's return. The ref breaks them apart again and Lucas has to do something now but its the wrestler who lands a right hand. Cage, boo's, repeat with 0:40 to go in the fight. Well, that was exactly as expected which means the fight sucked. (10-9 Elkins)
Fight Grade- D-

Darren Elkins defeated Lucas Martins in a lackluster Split Decision (30-27 2x & 27-30).

How in the blue hell did a judge see every round for Martins? Perhaps the cards were added up wrong because there was no fucking way Lucas came close to winning that fight. This is what MMAFO always fears with Brazilian judging.

Everybody wake the fuck back up as the "Brazilian Hillbilly" is coming to the cage!

Fabio Maldonado vs. Hans Stringer

Rd.1 Immediately, Stringer shoots in and takes Maldonado to the mat much to the chagrin of the crowd and MMAFO. Hans is landing the left knee to the body and his legs are massive upon further viewing. Fabio is just trying to hold on for a stand up which isn't a very good game plan. A solid could of right elbows land and he repeats the pattern again. Fabio almost reverses it, getting so close, but can't complete the transition. Maldonado escapes out the back door to his feet and then the air in the arena dissipates as he is immediately taken back down. Fabio is bleeding from the top of the head but not significantly. Solid right elbow from Stringer and this round mercifully ends. Yeesh. (10-9 Stringer)

Rd.2 Stringer punches his way in as expected pressing the Brazilian against the cage. The separate and its Hans landing the right hands. A leg kick lands for Hans and Fabio asks him for more! A level change and the man from the Netherlands easily completes the takedown. Fabio shucks him off and now he's on top and the Brazilian crowd explodes. Maldonado is peppering Stringer here and there but slowly picking up the pace. Hans is just covering up as Fabio is picking his shots and punching anywhere there is an opening. The referee is warning Stringer but Hans just stays turtled up and the fight is stopped!
Fight Grade- B+

Fabio jumps atop the cage and is greeted on the Octagon wall by Anderson Silva! The GOAT hugs and kisses Maldonado as the crowd erupts and the chants begin! What a moment for Fabio in yet another comeback win! MMAFO has chills!

Fabio Maldonado TKO'd Hans Stringer at 4:06 of the 2nd round!

Glover Teixeira vs. Phil Davis

Rd.1 The Co-Main Event has begun and Phil shoots in for a takedown but Glover defends it perfectly. "Mr. Wonderful" is throwing both hands early and moving in and out to avoid Teixeira's power. The long legs land with a high kick from Davis and a body shot lands for Glover while Phil circles away. A stiff right hand for Phil and eventually a left hand lands for the American. A nice push kick followed by a left hand for "Mr. Wonderful" who is hot early while Teixeira can't find his mark yet. Davis works a single leg and Glover makes a mistake trying to drop for a guillotine only to end up underneath Phil. Glover tries to stand and Davis is peppering Teixeira with a bevy of right hands from all angles. They maneuver away from the cage wall and Davis is using the left now to score at will as the round closes strongly for "Mr. Wonderful." (10-9 Davis)

Rd.2 Davis is on the balls of his feet bouncing as we begin the 2nd and looking very confident. Davis is only using combinations trading between both hands and Glover looks very confused. Phil shoots in and drags Teixeira down. A beautiful reversal by Glover and they break upon the feet. Body kick from Davis and he shoots in and yet again, again, Glover makes the mistake of dropping for a guillotine only to lose it instantly giving Phil dominant position. Punches under Glover's arm land for "Mr. Wonderful" and the American is all over Teixeira. Three lefts and a right for Phil as he keeps that jab working. The Brazilian backs off and we get a pause in the action due to an accidental eye poke. We restart and Davis stays busy while Glover just isn't throwing. Body shot and punch to the top of the head for Davis and Glover misses badly with a kick. Phil takes Teixeira down and "Mr. Wonderful" is just taking Glover to school! (10-9 Davis)

Rd.3 A left hook finally lands for Teixeira but Phil shuts him down by pressing his opponent against the cage and then breaking away. Double leg at the hips by Davis for a picturesque takedown. "Mr. Wonderful" is owning Glover easily and the Pit fighter needs a stoppage to win. Jesus, Davis is tossing Teixeira around on the ground and here come the punches under the arms. The crowd is booing but this may be the best performance by Davis to date. Right hands all over Glover and Phil can't get the suplex, the only thing he hasn't done right this evening. Davis is breathing heavily but he has been putting in major work. Back down to the mat and this is nothing short of embarrassing. "Mr. Wonderful" is back baby in a very impressive, completely dominating performance. Wow! (10-9 Davis)
Fight Grade- B

Phil Davis trounces Glover Teixeira by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x) in an absolute route!

In a head shaking post fight interview, Phil "The Brazilian Killer" Davis says he wants to fight Anderson Silva next. The "Spider" is shown in the crowd shrugging as if to say whatever.

Conor McGregor is finally shown in the crowd and he makes the throat slash gesture as the crowd boo's.

"Money" Mendes enters the arena to Aaron Lewis' "Country Boy" as per usual. "Scarface" comes out to Jay Z, Kanye West, and Rihanna's "Run This Town."

Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes 2

Rd.1 Buffer has done his nonsense and now its time for the title fight Rematch! They touch gloves and early leg kicks from Mendes who is pressuring the Champion. Three punch combination from Aldo and then a body shot. Right lands for Chad followed by a leg kick. A body kick by Aldo and a left hook drops Aldo in a flash knockdown. Back up "Scarface" brings his 1st leg kick. Both men have major pop in their punches as they trade shots. Left uppercut for Mendes then a counter left for the challenger. A combination from Aldo makes Chad smile. Body punch answered by Chad's right hand. Inadvertent eye poke and we halt the action for a moment. Doc checks Jose out and we restart and a flurry from Aldo hurts Mendes who takes Aldo down but he's back up. A solid punch drops Mendes who is scrambling. Jose takes full mount dropping bombs but Chad gets back to his feet for the final seconds.. A left hurts Chad and a left and right come after the bell which drops Mendes again. (10-9 Aldo)

Rd.2 Jose was warned for the late punches but the damage is done. A kick catches Aldo in the pills and he drops to his knees as we have our 3rd rule infraction of the fight and our 2nd pause in the action. Now Mendes is moving and not standing in front of Aldo and Jose's right eye seems to be swelling. Chad slips on a high kick but back up he's bobbing his head and seems to have recovered from earlier damage. They're trading leg kicks now and a left hand lands for Jose. The jab starts landing for "Scarface" and a 1-2 for Mendes hits home. A hook to the body makes Chad smile which means it hurt him. "Money" whiffs on a big overhand and another body punch from Jose. Head kick blocked by Mendes. Aldo is landing more but the Team Alpha Male member is back in it. (10-9 Aldo)

Rd.3 A quick hard 1-2 lands for Jose to start the 3rd and we have another goddamned eye poke. Aldo raises his hands in frustration and the referee says the next infraction will result in a point deduction. Good work by ref Mark Goddard. Both men land then the combo from Aldo who is getting busy. 1-2 for Mendes lands then eventually a jab. A left staggers Chad then three lefts cause Mendes to retreat. Uppercut from Chad then he takes an overhand right to the ear which wobbles him. Up against the cage Chad gives some nasty foot stomps and the two men are smiling and having a conversation as the round ends. (10-9 Aldo)

Rd.4 We enter the championship rounds and its looking like the challenger is going to need a stoppage to win. A big uppercut grazes the eye of "Scarface" which is Chad's best punch of the fight. Aldo's left eye is bleeding and Mendes complains of an eye poke. An overhand right lands for Chad but a right counter from Aldo also finds the mark. Jose checks a kick and Mendes stumbles. A flying knee misses but he 1-2 before it did not. (10-9 Mendes)

Rd.5 We are at the final round and MMAFO still believes Mendes must stop Aldo to win. Chad lands two left hooks to start but Aldo lands one of his own that turns Chad's head. Mendes hits a double leg and finally gets the takedown. Jose's right eye is swollen badly but he is getting his legs back under him trying to stand up. Mendes puts him on his butt but Jose stands while Chad bails. Solid left for Aldo then a 1-2 and a knee to the body. They scramble against the cage and Jose has Chad's back on the ground. A 2-2 trade for the combatants and an uppercut for Chad. Aldo rocks Chad with the right hand and shows no fear of standing and trading in the pocket. 1-2 for the Champ. 90 seconds left and its desperation time for Mendes who isn't busy enough. Aldo stuffs the takedown and shoves his opponent away. Chad just can't seem to turn it on and doesn't land anything in the waining moments. A punch pushes away Mendes then a flying kick lands for Aldo and Chad walks way clapping as if he knows the outcome. The men show great sportsmanship in the center of the cage with a hug and "Scarface" celebrates atop the cage. Great fight. (10-9 Aldo) "Fight of the Night"
Fight Grade- B+

Jose Aldo defeats Chad Mendes by Unanimous Decision (49-46 3X) to retain his Featherweight Championship in a great fight!

Aldo is gracious in victory and says their division, "has a King, a prince, and now a joker," an obvious shot at Conor McGregor.

Mendes gives the champ his due but says he still wants to fight Conor McGregor. Unfortunately, even with all of these references to the "Notorious" one, he isn't brought into the cage.

Well, MMAFO went 9-2 losing the last two fights on the card in an otherwise successful night.
