Yes, yes we know. MMAFO has been slacking recently. Apologies all around but give us a break. We do this for fun and have real people jobs to tend to. Not to mention the UFC is putting on cards every other day at this point making it hard to keep up with MMA's state of affairs. Excuses aside, it was well time to update the rankings as there has been some movement recently.
Heavyweight
No movement to speak of at this time but with Fedor Emelianenko soon to return, and quite possibly to the UFC of all places, things should be heating up soon.
Light Heavyweight
Glover Teixeira moves above Ovince St. Preux after teaching him a grappling lesson last weekend, and we still await the sentencing of Mr. Jon Jones to see if the disgraced former champion returns to fighting. Rashad Evans is also somewhere out there pretending he wants to continue fighting. We're not buying it as he sits behind the desk rubbing his knee.
Middleweight
Crickets, crickets, crickets...
Welterweight
Johny Hendricks stays put at #2 even though the UFC is screwing him and giving the title shot to our boy Carlos Condit. Hey, we love "NBK" but fair is fair. "Bigg Rigg" earned his trilogy shot against Robbie Lawler. Demian Maia moves up a bit and somehow Rousimar Palhares remains in the Top 10 even after his ridiculous cheating against Jake Shields.
Lightweight
Michael Johnson got robbed this past weekend against Beneil Dariush but we don't hold that against either fighter. The rankings remain unchanged until business can be sorted out.
Featherweight
No movement here either but Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo and Interim Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor are officially set to do the damn thing again, for the 1st time, December 12th in Las Vegas. Here's hoping our Lord and savior will protect "Scarface" this time around.
Bantamweight
Nothing changed except a belligerent Dominick Cruz crying to the press that he's still the man though he's more brittle than Sam Jackson in Unbreakable.
Flyweight
Speaking of injury prone, "Uncle Creepy" missed yet another fight date with an injury. C'mon homey, we loves us some Ian McCall but you have to fight brother! Champion Demetrious Johnson will meet rival John Dodson September 5th to settle things at the top.
Women's Bantamweight
Lots of movement here. Bethe Correia drops completely out of the Top 10 which isn't much of a surprise while Amanda Nunes is the biggest mover in all the weight classes. Tonya Evinger makes her 1st appearance on the list after capturing the Invicta strap and we stand by our "high" Holly Holm ranking despite the criticism.
Women's Strawweight
The cocky Jessica Aguilar got a wake up call in her 1st UFC showing which dropped her all the way down to 4, while Claudia Gadelha moved into the #1 contender spot to beloved Champion Joanna Jedzejczyk. Carla Esparza needs to book a fight soon and the greatest, most beautiful, and most beloved Joanne Calderwood gets the + by her name and can now ascend to the mountain top.
