UFC Fight Night 87 Results: The Reem & The Skyscraper Dominant

Alistair Overeem TKO'd Andrei Arlovski via front kick and punches at 1:12 of the 2nd round.

The Main Event saw "The Pit Bull" come out swinging but "Ubereem" blocked all of the punches save for a really well placed body shot by Arlovksi in the opening salvo. Things calmed a bit as the men became a bit more measured in their striking. Alistair was moving well as Andrei was coming forward but "The Demolition Man" executed his patented outside leg trip and got on top of the "Belarus Vampire" working some G&P until the round ended.

In the 2nd, "The Reem" took a couple of winged overhand rights from Arlovski and then launched a front kick and left hook that dropped Andrei to the canvas. From there, Overeem unloaded while Arlovski did nothing but cover up causing the stoppage and perhaps making Alistair Overeem the #1 contender for the Heavyweight title!

* Next up, Overeem should get he winner of Champion Fabricio Werdum versus Stipe Miocic at UFC 198 next weekend.

* A rematch between Arlovski and Ben Rothwell makes perfect sense at this time.

Stefan Struve TKO'd Antonio Silva with nasty elbows at 0:15 into the very 1st round.

"Bigfoot" charged across the cage and ate a perfectly placed right hook wounding him as he looked for a saving takedown against the cage. Stefan added a sharp knee to the body collapsing Silva who was hanging on for dear life as he then took elbow after elbow until the referee correctly halted the fight. Antonio staggered to his feet to complain about the stoppage but this guy needs to find a new job.

A heroic and confidence building performance for Struve in front of his peeps which was heart warming for a young man who has been through a lot in recent years. Good on ya Stefan.

* Timothy Johnson would be a good next test for Struve.

* This needs to be the last we see of "Bigfoot" in the UFC. Retire or go somewhere else.

Gunnar Nelson submitted Albert Tumenov  by neck crank at 3:15 of the 2nd round.

"Gunni" came out looking much more comfortable on the feet throwing side kicks like his mate Conor McGregor. Then, Nelson blitzed across the cage and took Tumenov to the ground quickly gaining full mount. Gunnar landed a nice elbow after a while but Albert used his momentum against him earning the sweep and getting back to his feet.

The 2nd started with Tumenov sporting a giant mouse over his left eyebrow. Albert got his striking going a bit to begin things but then Gunnar hit a beautiful outside trip into side control. It didn't take long for Nelson to attain full mount and as Tumenov bucked to get free "Gunni" latched onto his back. It was only a matter of time and though Nelson didn't get his arm under the chin, he cranked hard for the tapout.

* Though the UFC doesn't like to schedule "winners versus losers," a match between "Gunni" and Johny Hendricks would be perfect. Most of the division is booked up except for Carlos Condit who isn't going to come back to face the likes of Nelson. "NBK" should have gotten a rematch but since he didn't, he may be retired.

Germaine de Randamie TKO'd Anna Elmose via knees at 3:46 of the opening round.

The "Iron Lady" avoided the takedown attempts from Elmost for the 1st half of the round and once they clinched up, de Randamie delivered knees to the head and then one to the body that stole Anna's soul. That's a wrap. We're not trying to be mean but Elmose isn't a UFC level fighter.

* Who wouldn't want to see de Randamie scrap against Lauren Murphy? Sign us up! Raquel Pennington would also be a fun one and there are some great options in the Women's Bantamweight division right now.

Nikita Krylov submitted Francimar Barroso by neck crank at 3:11 of the 2nd round.

Now this was a very strange fight. Krylov was doing his thang avoiding the wild striking attempts from Barroso and doing work when the men went to the ground. Then, Nikita hit Francimar with a headbutt to the body and the referee paused the action to warn him about the foul. Next, the referee allowed the fight to continue in the same position!? It was an intentional foul and the referee should have restarted the men on the feet or taken a point away from Krylov for such an obvious foul. At any rate, the fight continued as Barroso began to do well on the mat while Nikita made apparent mistakes in the Jiu-Jitsu game. The weirdness would continue as Francimar then seemed to give up on the fight allowing the "Miner" to take his back and tap him out with the RNC that was not under the chin and was more like a soft neck crank. Its on the Brazilian black belt though who quickly tapped out no longer wanting to play.

Krylov has fucked around and made himself a very fun man to watch at the stagnant Light Heavyweight division. We would appreciate him cleaning up his act and not throwing illegal headbutts in the future but this guy with wild and looking to make some noise. It was very funny to hear Nikita's corner tell him after the 1st round, "Don't fight with a drunk man," warning him to back away from Francimar's out of control punches.

* The winner of Patrick Cummins and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira would be right for Krylov as its time to see just what this wild man has got.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz defeated Heather Jo Clark by Unanimous Decision (29-28 2x, 30-27).

Heather Jo started strong but faded as Karolina got into rhythm and took over the bout. There were rumors of a tough political situation plaguing Kowalkiewicz's camp but she gutted things out and remains a contender in the division.

* Karolina is a Shih Tzu lover!!! This means she is an amazing person and trying to become one of MMAFO's favorite fighters!

** Kowalkiewicz needs a step up perhaps against the likes of Carla Esparza. Fun that would be.

Rustam Khabilov defeated Chris Wade by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28 2x).

Khabilov still doing what he do. Wade was a game opponent and the striking did look much improved but not enough to overate Rustam. The judge that scored every round for Khabilov is a moron.

Magnus Cedenblad TKO'd Garreth McLellan via head kick and punches 0:47 into the 2nd round.

Say what you will about Garreth, the man sports and epic Viking beard! Anywho, Magnus has a lot of height for the 185 division sporting a 6'3" frame and McLellan had trouble bridging the gap. Cedenblad checked a leg kick and dropped McLellan with a straight right hand but followed up with an eye poke halting the action and allowing the rover to recover. Nothing else happened as Magnus stalked the pirate for the rest of the round.

The 2nd began, and Cedenblad landed a right head kick and pushed McLellan's head down against the fence with the left while delivering a series of uppercuts with the right. Garreth had no answer and the referee stepped in.

Josh Emmett Upset Jon Tuck by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) in his late notice UFC debut.

A bone in Emmett's left hand broke through the skin in the final round but Josh had already done enough to the secure the win. Tuck is just terrible and is more concerned with getting his necklace right than his fight game. Time for Jon to leave the Zuffa roster.

Reza Madadi TKO'd Yan Cabral via punches at 1:56 of the 3rd round and then stole his purse.

Kyoji Horiguchi beat up Neil Seery by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27 2x) in a dominant effort.

Kyoji was just painfully dominant over the Irishman who showed heart as always but not enough game. Horiguchi continues to look better each time out and now with ATT he is only going to become a scarier contender at Flyweight.

Leon Edwards defeated Dominic Waters by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).

Yup. This went exactly as everyone expected. Edwards is a kickboxer with zero ground game and no power.

Yuta Sasaki tapped Willie Gates via rear-naked choke at 3:30 of the 2nd round.

"Ulka" has awful striking but the guy takes fun chances and when making this a grappling contest, Willie had no shot. Yuta is fun to watch even though he may flame out in dramatic fashion in the future.

Finally, the UFC Fight Pass feed was absolute shit tonight and everyone struggled with it. That is a major faux pas UFC. Fix that shit.

10-3 on the picks.
