UFC 211 Results: Champions Retain Titles In Emphatic Fashion

Main Card Results:

Stipe Miocic TKO’d Junior dos Santos with Punches at 2:22 of the 1st round to retain his Heavyweight Championship.

"JDS" started strong wounding Miocic but "Steepay" rallied forcing the action and beginning to land punches. Then, a crushing right hand from Miocic dropped dos Santos who covered up causing the stoppage and Stipe is now 1 win away from setting the UFC Heavyweight record for title defenses.

* A lot of people are clamoring for Cain Velasquez to get the next title shot but MMAFO is unsure as to why. Cain has only competed twice in the last 3 years going 1-1. Not exactly stellar. Not to mention the fact that you cannot bank on the AKA star staying uninsured and actually making it to the bout. No, if Fabricio Werdum can get past Alistair Overeem for their trilogy fight, he deserves the rematch. Should Werdum stumble, provided Derrick Lewis can defeat Mark Hunt, "The Black Beast" should get the nod.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk dominated Jessica Andrade winning by Unanimous Decision (50-45 2x, 50-44).

"Joanna Champion" remained so in a dominate and perhaps her greatest performance against Andrade. Jessica was game to fight the entire 25 but she just didn't have the skills to combat the greatest female fighter of all time! Jedrzejczyk need 1 more title defense to tie Ronda Rousey's feat which now seems eons ago. "Joanna Violence" looks even more skilled each time out especially since joining ATT.

* Rose Namajunas is likely next to face the Pole and best of luck to her with that.

Demian Maia defeated Jorge Masvidal by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) to become the new #1 contender at Welterweight.

It wasn't pretty but Maia got the job done and goddamn it the man deserves a title shot. UFC President Dana White claims he'll get his chance but his word is worthless.

* Demian has now won 7 in a row at 170 and Tyron Woodley is on the horizon.

Frankie Edgar defeated Yair Rodriguez by TKO (Dr. Stoppage) after the 2nd round.

Not so fast there young man. The veteran Mr. Edgar came out and did as we predicted. Frankie showed Yair's lack of wrestling taking him to the canvas and punishing him over and over again. Rodriguez's left eye was a swollen mess after the 2nd round forcing the stoppage. Frankie was absolutely dominate and now continues to toil in the wastelands of the Featherweight division.

David Branch defeated Krzyztof Jotko by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) in yet another snoozer.

FX Prelims Results:

Dustin Poirier versus Eddie Alvarez ended in a No Contest (due to illegal knees by Alvarez).

Just as this fight was shaping up and getting real interesting with Alvarez hurt and on autopilot, Ed put Poirier up against the cage looking for a takedown, and then threw 3, that's 3 illegal knees in a row the last of which cut open Dustin and knocked him down.

Despite what is being said, referee Herb Dean ended the bout incorrectly calling it a No Contest. The 1st knee was illegal but bounced off Dustin's hand and Herb made no move to halt the activity. Then 2 more knees crashed into Poirier and eventually the bout was called off when doctors decided Dustin could not continue safely. The doctors made the right call but how this is not ruled a Disqualification is baffling.

It was a comedy of errors and obviously we need a Rematch here. Now somebody go explain to Herb Dean that "intent" doesn't matter because a foul is a foul. Also, Dean's explanation that a fighter has to have weight on their hands for them to be ruled down is ludicrous. Also, Herb went into the crowd and cleared his decision with UFC VP Marc Ratner who should have zero say in the matter. WTF is going on? Universal rules need to be applied by every commission no amount of hands down should save a fighter from knees. What a mess.

Jason Knight TKO’d Chas Skelly via Punches at 0:39 of the final round.

"Hick Diaz" continues to shine as he went to war with Skelly and put the beatin' on Chas. That's 4 in a row for Knight and he's definitely a "must-see" action fighter.

Chase Sherman TKO’d a game Rashad Coulter by Srikes at 3:36 of the 2nd round.

Good on ya Coulter. Homie was debuting on about 5 minutes notice and took the fight to Sherman. Rashad was obviously gassed in the 2nd round but still kept coming and fought with great heart! Chase had the goods to put him away but it was a helluva fight.

* Rashad Coulter fights out of the Fortis MMA camp which is co-owned by NBA player Deron Williams of the hated Cleveland Cavaliers.

James Vick TKO’d Marco Reyes with Punches at 2:39 of the opening round.

Another solid outing for Vick. Can we just get this guy away from scumbag Lloyd Irvin and Team Gang Rape please?

Fight Pass Prelims Results:

Cortney Casey defeated Jessica Aguilar by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).

Yup, "JAG" got old while she was on break and "Cast Iron" Casey made her pay for it. Cortney bashed Jessica on the feet and used her feet to upkick the crap outta Aguilar while on the map. "CC" has really improved rapidly and we are more and more intrigued each time she competes.

Enrique Barzola defeated Gabriel Benitez by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).

Gadzhimurad Antigulov submitted Joachim Christensen via Rear Naked Choke at 2:21 of the very 1st round.

8-3 on the picks.
