Rose Namajunas scored the Upset of the year KOing Joanna Jedrzejczyk with Punches at 3:03 of the very 1st round to claim the Strawweight Championship!

Stephen Thompson defeated Jorge Masvidal by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27 2x).

Paulo Costa TKO'd Johny Hendricks with a barrage of strikes at 1:23 of the 2nd round.

FS1 Prelims Results:

James Vick KO'd Joseph Duffy by Uppercut at 4:59 of the 2nd round!

Big upset for Vick as Duffy leaned into the oncoming uppercut from hell! James followed up with the G&P and that is a wrap. Score another one for Team Gang Rape (booooo!).

Mark Godbeer defeated Walt Harris at 4:29 of the 1st round via Disqualification, due to an illegal knee and kick.

Harris was controlling the fight on the ground, oddly enough, and then hit Godbeer in the groin with a knee and as the referee was stepping in to halt the action and yelling “stop”, Walt threw a a head kick that wounded the Brit. The referee separated the men and Mark could no longer continue.

For his part, Walt apologized and took the blame immediately. Perhaps he was just caught in the moment but it’s a shame since he was doing so well.

Ovince Saint Preux KO’d Corey Anderson by Head Kick at 0:00 of the final round in a dramatic comeback!

“Beastin’ Overtime” controlled much of the 1st round with great wrestling an a nice suplex, only to get dropped at the end of the round with a flurry of punches.

OSP rocked Anderson in the 2nd with a big head kick, and just as he was going to try for the finish, referee Dan Miragliotta stopped things for a moment to give Corey back his mouthpiece. Anderson was then able to clear his head and get back into the fight winning the round on the ground. Terrible decision by Miragliotta who is usually very good at his job.

OSP was very tired in his corner between rounds and perhaps taking this fight a mere 5 weeks after his last, has worn on him. And then, the left high head kick struck again, (shades of Mirko Filipovic), and sent Anderson into the shadow realm!

Randy Brown defeated Mickey Gall by Unanimous Decision (29-28 2x, 29-27) in a bout filled with illegal activity.

Gall received warning after warning after warning in this fight for grabbing the fence, illegal upkick (Brown had an illegal upkick as well), lacing his toes into the fence, and illegally holding onto the gloves time and time again. Why in the holy fuck did the referee not take a point? After the final bell, Mickey even threw a late elbow. This kid, has a lot of learning and growing up to do.

As far as the actual contest went, “Rude Boy” proved who had the better stand up dominating Gall in the 1st round, and though he lost the 2nd on his back, Randy really showed some nice ground defense. Then for the final round, Brown gained top control and used his vicious elbows to make Gall’s face the crimson mask. A really nice win for the Jamaican.

Curtis Blaydes defeated Alexei Oleinik by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 1:56 of the 2nd round and the bout made MMA history!

This Heavyweight title made history as this was the 1st time “Instant Replay” was used in MMA. Blaydes had battered and staggered a bloody Oleinik around the cage in the initial round, and was continuing the onslaught in the 2nd, when Curtis threw an illegal kick at the head of the downed Alexei. Luckily for Blaydes, the kick only slightly grazed the ear of the Russian, but the referee halted the fight and called in the doctor. While the physician was examining Oleinik, the athletic commission used the brand new “Instand Replay,” and saw on the monitors that the kick did not contribute to Alex’s now dilapidated state. The doctor ended the fight and Blaydes was, correctly, awarded the victory in an odd outing. Justice served.

Ricardo Ramos KO’d Aiemann Zahabi via Spinning Elbow at 1:58 of the 3rd round. “KO of the Night”
