Bellator 206 Mousasi vs MacDonald: Fight Card, Picks + Odds

Sept. 29, 2018
SAP Center
San Jose, California

Main Fight Card (9pm/CT):

Middleweight Champion Gegard Mousasi (44-6-2) -265 vs. Rory MacDonald (20-4) +225

"Sweet Sassy" Mousasi is cruising in his prime having won 7 bouts in a row including the Bellator Middleweight strap in May. Gegard is one of the most well rounded fighters in the game today, and has the best jab going. "The Dreamcatcher" will knock you out just as easily as he taps you out and takes souls without thought.

"The Red King" has been in some absolutely amazing fights and his never say die attitude, and odd yet mesmerizing persona has made him a star as well as being the Bellator Welterweight Champion who is just looking for another challenge. Mac is a technical though not overwhelming striker and has wrestling when he chooses to use it.

Holy MMA Gods this is an amazing bout! Two amazing athletes in their respective primes, two gold wearing champions, and the best bout Bellator can put together at this time. It's got to be amazing and we cannot wait. You have to lean toward Mousasi with his size advantage and comfortability at the weight. That, and though he never quits, Rory gets marked up badly, bleeding and swelling which is never good in the eyes of the judges. MMAFO just wants a great fight but Gegard is the man.

WINNER-Gegard Mousasi by Decision

Wanderlei Silva (35-13-1-1) +235 vs. Quinton Jackson (37-13) -275 [4]

This will be the 4th damn time these two men have faced each other and it's happening for no damn good reason. Damn. Why, just fucking why? All we're doing here is rehashing an old beef that will never be settled between two MMA superstars that should be retired as to not do anymore damage to their bodies than already done. Jesus we can't get off this soapbox. This is just bad.

"The Axe Murderer" is now 42 years old and over 20 years in the sport. He's been in some of the worst wars of all time and (T)KO'd 6 times. MMAFO loves us some "Wand" and just want him to be healthy. We've met the man and he's a legend of the sport.

"Rampage" is a piece of shit who has never dedicated himself to the arts and has a notorious history of harassing female reporters, bullying, and going on a berserker riot in a monster truck. Jackson is coming off a humiliating performance against Chael Sonnen and is now 40.

So, these aged warriors are going to stand there and throw for a couple of minutes and one will fall down and we'll all be sad. This bout is at Heavyweight which means "Rampage" will come in fat and "Wand" will be giving up a lot of weight. Silva is far less durable at this point, but if this goes longer than 2 minutes the bout is up for grabs.

WINNER-Quinton Jackson by Rd.1 KO

Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix Opening Round

Douglas Lima (29-7) +125 vs. Andrey Koreshkov (21-2) -145 [Trilogy]

The score here is 1 to 1 as both men claim a victory over the other and this will be a 5-round fight as it is part of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix.

Douglas initially won the belt in '14 defeating Rick Hawn, though he would drop it to Koreshkov in his very 1st title defense. Lima went back to work besting Paul Daley before getting a rematch in which he knocked out Koreshkov to regain the gold. Douglas successfully defended against incoming Lorenz Larkin only to lose in his next performance  against Rory MacDonald, though it was more competitive than we had expected. Now the ATT (Atlanta) fighter is looking to rebound again by marching through the tournament for yet another run at the "Red King."

Andrey got his rub not when he 1st won the title in '15 (over Lima), but when he defended the title defeating Benson Henderson. He could not keep the momentum going though as he was then stopped by Lima in their rematch. The Russian has finished his last two opponents and is motivated not only to avenge a loss, but return to a title fight. Andrey has nasty low leg kicks and counters.

There is a difference in power here folks and Lima showed that with his brutal KO of Koreshkov at Bellator 164. Doug is also sneaky at setting up the counter strikes and in a battle of low leg kickers, good luck besting Lima. Andrey needs to take advantage of the moments when Douglas gets inactive, but he won't. This will either be an interesting rubber match, but we're not believers in Koreshkov desire to improve.

Upset Pick WINNER-Douglas Lima by Decision

Aaron Pico (3-1) -550 vs. Leandro Higo (18-4) +425

The "Rosco Pico Train" is still rolling along winning his last 3 bouts all by (T)KO finish. Aaron is for real and now we're just observing him with each test to see improvement.

Higo trains with the Pitbull Brothers and has a lot more experience than young Aaron. Leandro prefers the ground game.

Pico is the future folks and the real deal. He wins and destroys Higo's midsection despite MMA Nation singing the praises of Leandro. Yup. MMAFO is starting shit.

WINNER-Aaron Pico by Rd.2 TKO

Keri Taylor-Melendez (2-0) -1000 vs. Dakota Zimmerman (1-0) +659

"Kat-M" may be the wife of Gilbert Melendez, but she's established herself in Muay Thai and kickboxing long before we saw her in MMA. The Skrap Pack fighter is ready to make an impact in women's MMA.

No idea who Dakota is but we're pretty sure Bellator wants the marketable Keri to win so we'll guess this isn't too crazy of a test. Geez, just look at the odds.

WINNER-Keri Melendez by Decision
