UFC Fight Night 146 Lewis vs. dos Santos: Fight Card, Predictions, + Odds

March 9, 2019
Intruest Bank Arena
Wichita, Kansas
Main Card:

#3 Derrick Lewis (21-6) +170 vs. #8 Junior Dos Santos (20-5) -200

Our 1st reaction to this bout was jesusburningchrist, why would you do that to Junior? Now, it makes some sense and we feel more confident that "Cigano" won't get murdered and we get to enjoy the hilarity of the "Black Beast."

MMAFO loves "Good Guy" dos Santos and we do worry about the nicest guy in MMA. It stems from grotesque disfiguring at the hands of Cain Velasquez in a loss, Stipe Miocic in a win ('14), and a total of three knockout losses. Even so, JDS is 35, which is the prime of one's career at big heavy, and has won two in a row. "Cigano" looks awful after long bouts, but he's till a helluva boxer with great footwork and solid takedown defense he won't even need here.

We all love the "Black Beast" but there are obvious holes in the game. Derrick has a limited gas tank, is rather slow, and has no idea what goes on during canvas work. However, motherfucker hits like a supernova and that really is a great equalizer.

Now, we know that all Lewis has to do is land one good'n and it's a wrap, however, if Alexander Volkov taught us anything, it's that Derrick can also be a non-factor against speed and athleticism. One quitter hitter aside, we like JDS to dance, pop and lock en route to finishing a completely gassed "Beast" late. We still love ya though big D.

WINNER-Junior dos Santos by Rd.4 TKO

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos (20-5) +100 vs. Curtis Millender (17-3) -120

"Capoeira" has quickly become "must-see" as he does highlight shit at will and has won 6 in a row in the umber-stacked 170s. Dos Santos takes risks at times but he can engage for the full 15 if needs be.

"Curtious" Curtis (great nickname btw) is on a 9-fight winning streak and he ain't no slouch in the inventive offense department either. Besting Siyar Bahadurzada last out was nice as well. Millender is best kickboxing at range but is very weak on the mat.

Stellar striking could be had by all here, or Elizeu could just get top position and grind out a win. Either way, percentages lean toward the Brazilian in our minds eye.

Upset Pick WINNER-Elizeu dos Santos by Decision

Tim Means (28-10-1) -200 vs. Niko Price (12-2) +170

Fucking Tim Means. Don't misunderstand. We enjoy watching the "Dirty Bird" fight but good fucking luck knowing which version of the guy will show. Guy has hellbows for days but sometimes he just seems lost or uninterested out there.

People have been quick to label Price as "flakey" as well but we're not sure why. Sure he got caught last out but shit happens. Dude has been pretty durable otherwise and has seemingly shocking power.

We smells us a good old fashioned Upset people! Niko blasts Tim's feathers off.

Upset Pick WINNER-Niko Price by Rd.1 KO

Blagoy Ivanov (16-2) -130 vs. Ben Rothwell (36-10) +110

Where ya been Ben? Oh that's right, Rothwell is returning from a 2-year suspension for his 2nd violation for illegal PED's. You're a cheater Ben and we don't give a fuck about you. Nobody else should either.

Junior dos Santos spoiled "Baga's" UFC debut but he's still got enough to game to best bitch Ben (we hope).

MMAFO's on tilt with all the goddamn cheating ruining our beloved MMA so we're a tad cranky.

WINNER-Blagoy Ivanov by Decision

Beneil Dariush (15-4-1) -200 vs. Drew Dober (20-8) +170

It's been a rough couple of years for Dariush as he slumped to 1-2-1 including 2 vicious knockout losses. Beneil is till very talented and seems to have his head right as he's a pretty bright guy.

Dober has won three in a row but the ground is his weakness which Dariush should be able to exploit.

WINNER-Beneil Dariush by Decision

Tim Boetsch (21-12) +115 vs. Omari Akhmedov (17-4-1) -135

I mean, fuck if we know. Omari has made the move up in weight but this is a coin flip fight. Both men can bang it out but is Omari a tich too small for Mid-weight? Eh, we'll give him the chance while we know what we get with the "Barbarian."

WINNER-Omari Akhmedov by Decision

ESPN+ Prelims:

Anthony Martin (15-4) -200 vs. Sergio Moraes (14-3-1) +170

Nah, we're feeling the "Panther" on this one. We're going to grapple and Moraes has the more lethal Jiu-Jitsu not to mention a size advantage. It's an Upset card or we're going nutters.

Upset Pick WINNER-Sergio Moraes by Decision

Yana Kunitskaya (11-4) -175 vs. Marion Reneau (9-4-1) +155

"The Belizean Bruiser" has been nothing but solid her entire UFC run. She'll have to weather a bit of an early storm here but then we expect her take over entirely.

Upset WINNER-Marion Reneau by Decision

Grant Dawson (12-1) -205 vs. Julian Erosa (22-6) +165

Oh look, another cheater on the card. Dawson gets his shot since the idiot athletic commissions can't get their shit together and is allowed "pulsing" with illegal substances. Thanks Jon Jones /s.

"Juicy J" does nothing about it running face-first into a knockout.

WINNER-Grant Dawson by Rd.1 KO

Maurice Greene (6-2) +180 vs. Jeff Hughes (10-1) -220 [Rematch]

Hughes took the pre-UFC meeting against the 6'7" kickboxer. Doubtful much has really changed since then so the same result.

WINNER-Jeff Hughes by Decision

Louis Smolka (15-5) -120 vs. Matt Schnell (12-4) +100

Dead Flyweights walking.

Smolka lost 4 fights in a row and his job in the UFC. Luckily, Louie addressed his drinky drink problem and won 3 on the minor circuit before returning last November to get a solid UFC win.

"Schmelly" is gonna win. This is the award winning fight dissection MMAFO is known for.

WINNER-Matt Schnell by Decision

Alex Morono (15-5) -165 vs. Zak Ottow (17-6) +145

WINNER-Alex Morono by Decision

Alex White (12-5) -145 vs. Dan Moret (13-4) +125

WINNER-Alex White by Decision
