UFC 251 Usman vs. Masvidal : Fight Card & Updated Lineup & The Coming of Jiri!

July 11, 2020
Fight Island
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
Main Card on PPV (9pm/CT):
Welterweight Champion #1 Kamaru Usman vs. #6 Jorge Masvidal

COVID strikes again knocking Gilbert Burns out of a title shot but "Street Jesus" miraculously came to terms with the evil UFC.

MMAFO has not been hesitant with our criticism of Mr. Masvidal. He had a star making 2019 but we really don't see him going anywhere but down, silly made up titles aside. People have lost their minds about the robes and hair but "Gamebred" is who he always was.

For his part, "Marty" is completely unlikeable. There is no way around it. He's smug, yet pretends he's the victim. Usman has a fake personality and strange ego. The skills are what matters. Kamaru is an unflinching machine. He wrestles fools to death and though the striking hasn't yielded spectacular results, he has improved.

Jorge may be a bit of a threat early, but as the fight goes on it'll be all Usman. Masvidal always slows down while the champ surges. Say what you will about Colby Covington, that last fight was a war, and one Kamaru shined in. There is always the slight chance "Marty" looses his shit and gets caught wild'n, but it should be another 25 minute

Featherweight Champion #1 Alexander Volkanovski vs #2 Max Holloway [Rematch]

So do you buy Max saying that be "trained by himself," for this fight? If he did, which we highly doubtful, that's stupid. Holloway deserved the rematch without a doubt but what has changed since the 1st meeting. Seems like it'll go about the same way but we're also just not that interested in this rematch.

Vacant Bantamweight Championship
#6 Petr Yan vs. José Aldo

We loves us some "Junior" and all but this dramatic weight cut seems dangerous. To his credit, Aldo has looked just fine making the transition but it is a major change to a 33 year old body with 34 professional bouts that were at a very high level.

It was rough watching Petr Yan destroy our beloved Urijah Faber but credit to the man. The Russian has been nothing but a destroyer and isn't even in his prime yet.

This feels like a morale victory for Jose to even get this shot but in the end, the better, younger skills are going to wear him down. "Scarface" will be game, but Yan shows "No Mercy" capturing the vacant title.

#2 Jéssica Andrade vs. #3 Rose Namajunas [Rematch]

"Thug Rose" seemed to be rolling in style during the 1st meeting until Andrade hoisted Namajunas into the air and slammed her into the abyss. It was a the 1st knockout loss of her career but wanting to immediately run-it-back is a good sign of her psyche. The former champ always shows improvement under maybe the best coach in MMA today, Trevor Wittman.

In her 1st title defense, Andrade was shockingly obliterated in 0:42 by Weili Zhang. It was shocking and we gotta say, if Rose has the accuracy she did in the initial outing, Jessica may be in some trouble. The reach is an issue as is the ability to get "Thug" on the ground for any substantial effect.

We have a lot of confidence in Namajunas, her team, and her future.

Amanda Ribas vs. Paige VanZant

Holy shit Paige is in for a beating. What does the UFC not like her anymore or something? Oh, it's the last fight on her contract, and with her husband in Bellator, the UFC is giving her proper send off. Jesus they are assholes.

"12 Gauge" has been struggling with a botched broken arm surgery and inactivity. "PVZ" has always been tough as nails in the cage but jut not elite level. Nothing wrong with that but Ribas is a potential champion.

Amanda has surprised some people but we thinks she has real talent. Ribas is physically strong for the weight class and "PVZ" would likely be better served dropping down to 115. The Brazilian shouldn't have much of an issue sending Paige on her way.

Prelims on ESPN+ (5pm/CT):
Jiri Prochazka vs. Volkan Oezdemir

We've been warning you motherfuckers for a long time and he hath come! The Rizin Light Heavyweight Champion is in the UFC and Jon Jones better run like he hit a pregnant woman with his car while high and drunk AF. Nah, something like that would end your career.

Anywho, the Czech is on a 10-fight winning streak with 30 professional bouts and only 27 years of age. MMAFO has high hopes but there is that "east coast curse."

"Oz" seems to be back on track after Daniel Cormier humbled him into a spiral of failure, and is a solid hand. His striking and finishing ability are great but if he has to fight late into the bout, he struggles.

Prochazka has to come through here as we are desperate for some new threats in the 205 division. Make us proud Jiri or we'll look like fools!
