Roy Jones Jr. has thrown his headband into the MMA world via his Square Ring Promotions which is promoting "March Badness," a MMA and boxing event March 21st at where else, but Pensacola.
A Light Heavyweight boxing match between Roy Jones Jr.(52-5) and Omar Sheika (27-8) will be the main event while 3 MMA bouts: Seth "Kimbo Killer" Petruzelli (10-4) vs. Doug "Rhino" Marshall (9-3) in a Light Heavyweight fight, Roy Nelson (13-3) vs. Jeff Monson (27-8) in a Heavyweight bout and former WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley (1-0) against an as-yet unnamed opponent.
Jones spoke on the coexistence of MMA and boxing saying,"I respect all kinds of fighters. People are always saying, ‘Boxing this, MMA that.’ But both of those are hand-to-hand combat man-to-man. Anyone who will fight another man straight up like that, I got nothing but the utmost respect for."
All this and Roy is still up for a fight with Anderson Silva somewhere down the line. The event will be available on PPV for a nominal fee. Not a bad little event for Roy and some good MMA fighters in need of a gig.
