UFC 129 Results: The Champions Retain But Makdessi & Garza Impress!

Pablo Garza defeats Yves Jabouin by a beautiful Flying Triangle Choke submission. Yves looked very good landing his stellar stand up game but the "Scarecrow" pulled off a very difficult flying triangle that Jabouin had a chance of escaping but he made errors in trying to escape. I eat my words on this kid again as he pulls out an amazing win. "Submission Of The Night"

John Makdessi defeats Kyle Watson with a Spinning Back Fist to earn the KO. How about the undercard pulling out some amazing finishes on this stacked card. Kyle didn't have a lot of success as the "Bull" continually out landed Watson and had him reeling going into the final round. Makdessi was looking for that spinning back fist in the 2nd but landed it very cleanly in the final round a putting the TUF alum to bed. "KO Of The Night"

Jason MacDonald returns from his gruesome injury last year and submits Ryan Jensen with a text book Triangle Choke in the very 1st round. The "Athlete" was doubted by many but not me as he returned to form in front of his homeland with an impressive stoppage victory.

Ivan Menjivar earns the TKO on Charlie Valencia. Ivan came out quick landing punches and elbows that dropped and put Charles in real trouble. Turtling up is not a defense and Menjivar shattered Charlie's nose causing the inevitable end. Yet another impressive undercard win.

Claude Patrick defeats Daniel Roberts by Unanimous Decision. "Ninja" wore his training mask to the ring and yet found himself gassed out in about 10 seconds. The "Prince" really had the better stand up game which caught me and Roberts off guard. An obviously worn down Daniel could not find his rhythm or air supply as Claude cut a cautious pace that "Ninja" could not handle. Just bad takedown attempts but it was really the awful cardio the lost him the fight. The "Prince" has now won an impressive 13 fights in a row and is looking for the upper tier talent in the division.

Jake Ellenberger KO's Sean Pierson with extreme prejudice in the opening frame. "Pimp Daddy" had his day but he just cannot hang with the young dogs of the Welterweight division. Jake just has so much power and didn't even need to rely on his powerful wrestling game. I really like this constantly improving kid to make a real run in the Welterweight division.

Rory MacDonald defeats Nate Diaz in an impressive Unanimous Decision. The "Waterboy" just has so much game at 21 that it is ridiculous. Nate had no answer for the kids amazing wrestling and said after the loss he will be returning to the Lightweight division. What he needs to do is learn to wrestle or employ wrestling defense instead of constantly changing weight classes. Rory is going to be a title contender in 2 years time.

Benson Henderson defeats Mark Bocek by Unanimous Decision and will face the vaunted Jim Miller for what should be a #1 contenders match. Mark just could not handle the speed and athleticism not to mention how nimble "Bendo" is. The kid is impressive and the haters of the WEC veterans had better watch their mouths because the gang is here!

Vladimir Matyushenko KO's Jason Brilz a mere 20 seconds into their fight. Nobody and I mean nobody saw that coming. Especially Jason.

Lyoto Machida KO's the legendary Randy Couture with a Front Kick in the 2nd stanza. Was that a Karate Kid style crane kick KO I just witnessed? The "Dragon" moved in and out getting his range before ending the career of the AARP member with a tooth loosening and unconsciousness inducing crane kick.

Jose Aldo defeats a very game Mark Hominick by Unanimous Decision. This fight was not as close as people are making it out to be. Aldo had Mark's number all night creating the planet like hematoma that protruded out around Hominick's battered face. It was completely one sided with Aldo doing as he pleased save for some heavy breathing from the normally high endurance athlete. In the final round Mark took Jose down and he was content to stay in guard allowing Mark to try his best though Aldo took little damage. Hominick even went on to tell reporters he thought the fight could have been stopped with is very laughable. We would find out later that Jose had a toe infection that slowed his normally stellar cardio and the final round was simply an effort to stay healthy so he could get a fight in August when the UFC comes to Brazil. All of this led to Mark believing that he almost won a fight in which he had his ass kicked all evening and against a injured fighter. Calm down "Machine" and stop with the annoying post fight push ups already."Fight Of The Night"

Georges St-Pierre defeats Jake Shields by Unanimous Decision. Once again, the champion cruised to victory. The only shaky moment for the champ came after an inadvertent eye poke left GSP one eyed from rounds 3-5. Jake did begin to wear down "Rush" and landed and even won the final round but it was too little too late.

8-3 on the picks.
I forgot to his publish post for about a week on this one ;)
