Alistair Overeem signed with the UFC and his 1st bout will be against the returning Brock Lesnar on December 30th. The "Demolition Man" was offered the winner of Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos but the warrior wanted to get to work instead of waiting. "Ubereem" is going to take "Cock Sword" Lesnar apart!
Clay Guida will face Ben Henderson on the 1st UFC on Fox show November 12th. Verbal agreements are in place and the winner is most likely the new #1 contender to the Lightweight crown. How can they not make this a hair vs hair match sponsored by the horrible AXE and their slurry of annoying products geared right at the MMA fans?
Josh Koscheck has been tapped to step in for Diego Sanchez ("YES!") who has broken his hand and must bow out against Welterweight legend Matt Hughes. "Kos" had planned to make a pit stop at Middleweight but the opportunity at UFC 137 could not be passed up. Royce Gracie who has said over and over again that he wants a rematch with Hughes, passed on the invite due to there only being two weeks to train.
The UFC is returning to Japan for the 1st time since in ten years! Zuffa will take over the Saitama Super Arena that used to hold the infamous Pride FC events. You can expect to see the card filled with Japanese stars Takanori Gomi, Norifumi Yamamoto, Hatsu Hioki, Yushin Okami, Michihiro Omigawa, Riki Fukuda, Takeya Mizugaki, not to mention names signed just for the far East event. If the UFC does not honor Kazushi Sakuraba at this event I will be furious!
One of the meanest men in MMA, Hector Lombard is on a 24 fight winning streak after defeating Jesse Taylor at the Australian Fighting Championships. Hector tapped Jesse in the 2nd round with a heel hook and has not lost a bout in over 5 years! I would like to see him fight somebody, anybody, of note now.
Fedor Emelianenko will return to mother Russia for his next fight. The "Last Emperor" has not fought at home in four years and will return under the M-1 banner. Fedor's manager Vadim Finkelstein announced Jeff Monson as the opponent on November 12th. Little brother Alexsander Emelianenko and former training partner Sergei Kharitonov are still citing Fedor's training and managment for the recent 3 fight losing streak. I hope Emelianenko has realized that the game has evolved and so must the "Last Emperor."
I hope everyone enjoyed our little break there as now the MMA scene heats up fast this weekend with four events. Strikeforce holds their Heavyweight Grand Prix, and we have cards by BAMMA 7, Bellator 49, and Shark Fights 19. Lots of gambling opportunities degenerates.
