UFC On Fox 5 Results: Massive KO's Abound In An Exciting Night

UFC On Fox 5: Henderson vs. Diaz Results

Main Card (FOX)
Benson Henderson defeated Nate Diaz by Unanimous Decision to retain his Lightweight title.  Nate had nothing to offer “Bendo” as “Smooth” took apart his legs and bashed the 209 rep with improved striking as well.  It was just ugly as Nate got knocked down at least 3 times though he always recovered to continue fighting.

Alexander Gustafsson defeated Mauricio Rua by Unanimous Decision taking a giant step forward in his young career.  “Shogun” fought well early (as always) but began to fade as the “Mauler” got into his rhythm.  Rua landed some staunch shots but Alex proved to have a strong beard as well as a better game plan.  Its going to be rough going from here on out for the “Shogun” but Gustafsson is just that much closer to a title shot.  "Fight Of The Night"

Rory MacDonald
destroyed B.J. Penn by Unanimous Decision in an absolute route.  BJ looked gassed out in just over a minute confirming suspicians that he had NOT trained hard for this fight and it was all a payday ruse.  Rory did as he pleased, taunting the former great and Penn just struggled not to die.  It was terrible and Rory called out Carlos Condit for a rematch to avenge his only loss.

Matt Brown KO’s Mike Swick in Round 2.  The “Immortal” had Swick in all sorts of trouble early threatening with a darce choke and then a triangle choke controlling the entire round though Mike did a good job of defending the submission attempts.  Swick seems unsure of what to do in the 2nd as he tries pressing Matt against the cage.  Once they separate Brown attacks with a left hook followed instantly by a right hand that lamps Swick to bed for the evening.  So much for “Quick’s” iron chin.
Prelims (FX)
Yves Edwards
KO’d Jeremy Stephens at 1:55 of the 1st Round!
Both men come out jockying for position throwing early and often as Edwards moves out of range time and again.  Both men come in swinging but its the counter right hook of the “Master of Thugjitsu” that lands flush turning Jeremy’s head back.  Stephens hits the deck and Yves drops some extra punishment as the lights go completely out and the referee stops the beatdown. Yves Edward wins by KO to tie the record for most UFC wins in the Lightweight division!  When Joe Rogan interviewed the “Original Gangsta” after the fight Yves said while watching the replay, “Damn that’s smooth.”  Indeed it was!
Raphael Assuncao defeated Mike Easton by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27).  The “Hulk” thought he had it but he did not.  Assuncao was more effective and Mike just couldn’t get things going in this lackluster fight.

Ramsey Nijem defeated Joe Proctor by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) in a fun little fight.

Daron Cruickshank KO’d Henry Martinez via Head Kick in the 2nd Round (2:57) of a vicious fight!  These two came out and put on one of the best single rounds of the year.  Daron was unloading a bevy of strikes backed by varying kicks but Martinez ate them all and pressed the action forward.  It was a front kick to the body that seemed to really hurt the cringing and now bloody Henry sending him retreating to the cage.  Daron followed up with kick after kick after kick to the sides of Martinez but the fighter would not go down!  The punishment continued with Cruickshank wondering what he had to do to get the finish and the crowd was roaring their approval.  In the 2nd, Daron seemed to be catching his breath a bit while Henry kept pressuring.  Cruickshank throws a right head kick that just folds up Henry and Daron walks away knowing the fight is ova!  Wow, what an entertaining bout.  Martinez showed serious heart and fortitude while Daron just unloaded an impressive offense in a stellar performance.  “KO Of The Night”

Abel Trujillo TKO’d Marcus Levesseur in the 2nd Round (3:56) with vicious knees to the body.

Dennis Siver defeated Nam Phan by Unanimous Decision (30-24, 30-25, 30-26).  Ze German did as he pleased to little Phan who took a beating.

Scott Jorgensen submits John Albert by RNC in the 1st Round at 4:59!! Scotty J got the takedown early and survived a nice sweep by Albert to get back in top control.  John threw up the triangle choke which seemed very, very close to finishing “Young Guns.” Rufio escaped into side control and then took the back of the “Prince” sinking in the RNC that was sooo deep that Albert tapped out with only 1 second left in the round!  “Submission Of The Night”
7-4 on the picks yo.
