ONE FC 19 "Reign of Champions"
Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki (35, 6) vs. Kamal Shalorus (9, 3, 2)
The "Tobikan Judan" is on a 5 fight winning streak stopping 4 of his foes in the process. Since 2010, Shinya has only lost twice, to Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez while winning the other 12 bouts.
The Iranian has rebuilt himself after going 0 & 3 in the UFC. The problem, is that Shalorus has only competed twice in the last two years. Both attempts were decision wins and Kamal is primarily a wrestler.
Wrestler or not, Kamal cannot win this fight if it hits the canvas. He has to keep things standing and thats just not done against someone the level of Aoki. Shinya gets his 24th career tap and retains the gold. Now if One FC can just get Aoki some stiff competition.
WINNER Shinya Aoki by Rd.2 Submission
Welterweight Champion Nobutatsu Suzuki (11, 1, 2) vs. Ben Askren (13, 0)
C'mon, does anyone really think that Suzuki is going to give the "Funky" one any problems? Stellar, and we mean stellar wrestling trumps striking 9 times out of 10. Ben has just ridiculous grappling skills on the ground and has finished his last 3 opponents just because people labeled him "boring." Suzuki should just give Askren the belt now and save himself the embarrassment.
WINNER Ben Askren by Rd.2 TKO
Featherweight Champion Koji Oishi (25, 9, 10) vs. Jadamba Narantungalag (9, 3)
I mean seriously, how can a fighter be involved in 10 career Draws? Oishi is a striker who has only been tapped once, and that was back in in 2004.
The Mongolian is susceptible to the KO (2 of his 3 losses) and is a ground warrior. This fight is set up for Koji to win.
WINNER Koji Oishi by Rd.3 TKO
Roger Huerta (21, 7, 1) vs. Christian Holley (10, 0)
The undefeated Brit, is going to bring the early storm to Huerta, but if he can't finish him, there are other options. The "Animal" has a decent double leg and can do work on the mat. What is most impressive is his relentless attack and stamina. Roger would easily be the biggest scalp on his resume and you know he is looking to impress.
The once promising Huerta has completely fallen apart since exiting the UFC on a 2 fight skid back in 2009. "El Matador" tried his hand in Bellator in 2010 where he went 1 & 2 before a TKO loss to woman beater, and all around piece of human garbage, War Machine in 2011. Huerta took a year off again, and returned at One FC 4 where he was brutally KO'd in 2012. Now, two years later and 1 & 6 in his last 7 efforts, we are to believe he has found his passion for fighting and will return to the top notch fighter he was in 2007? That's 7 goddamn years since this guy has been relevant. Don't think so.
Look for Holley to put a beatin' on Huerta early and more than likely, Roger just gives up and returns to the beach where he is truly happy. MMA just doesn't seem to be in Huerta's blood anymore but Christian will be happy to spill it and check.
WINNER Christian Holley by Rd.1 TKO
James McSweeney (13, 11) vs. Cristiano Kaminishi (8, 1)
McSweeney has kept himself quite busy since leaving the UFC back in 2010. The Brit has gone 9 & 4 but the only decent opponents he has faced (Paul Buentello, Bellator Lightweight Champion Emanuel Newton, and veteran journeyman Ricco Rodriguez).
Kaminishi is a 35 year old Japanese 205er who is well rounded, but hasn't competed against anyone of note or been out of the Japanese circuit for the most part. The former Heat Light Heavy Champ has some kicks in his arsenal, but he's a Jiu Jitsu guy who has terrible hands, and doesn't like to get hit.
This is striker versus grappler for sure. The "Hammer" is going to have around a 3" reach advantage, is younger, and trains with Jiu Jitsu ace Robert Drysdale, so he'll be prepared for the ground game, and probably have a decent stash of TRT flowing though his body if he's anything like his coach. Anywho, both looked to be in good shape at the weigh ins, but the MMAFO crew doubt that Kaminishi will survive the kicks coming his way for too long.
WINNER James McSweeney by Rd.2 TKO
