UFC Fight Night 48 & 49 Results: Rafael dos Anjos, Michael Bisping, Woodley, & Mein Destroy!

UFC Fight Night 49
FOX Sports 1 Main Card Results
Rafael dos Anjos KO’d Benson Henderson with nasty Punches and followed up the attack to secure the biggest victory of his career at 2:31 of Round 1!

Things were going according to plan until a right hand had “Bendo” careening to the mat. RDA followed up the unexpected success with punches as Henderson looked for a leg and, WAIT, referee John McCarthy stopped the action! That was unfortunate as “Big John” jumped in too early as the upset but still professional Benson stood right up with clear eyes.
Now, RDA prolly would’ve finished Ben anyway, but its still a shame that the referee jumped in before things were definitive. Then McCarthy and Henderson’s corner men got into a big shouting match on the side.

Jordan Mein TKO’d Mike Pyle via Punches at 1:12 of the 1st round daring you to mention his father.

Great googly moogly, Mein hit Pyle so hard he actually dropped to the mat clutching his face in pain before the referee stepped in saving him from further damage. Jeezus it was brutal. "(T)KO of the Weekend"

Thales Leites TKO’d Francis Carmont with Punches 0:20 into the 2nd round.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. Leites! Thales learned how to strike in his time away from the UFC and the monotony of “Frankie Cars” was finally struck down. Now if we could just get the Brazilian to stop doing his impression of Manu Ginobili upstairs.

Max Holloway TKO’d young upstart Clay Collard via Punches and exhaustion at 3:47 of the last round.

Well, its one of those rare occasions when we find a star in defeat. Clay took this opportunity on 10 days notice and came to fight! The kid showed a granite chin as Max teed off on him time and again showing technique trumps heart. Poor Collard just did not have the endurance for this effort but he’ll be brought back as he made many fans because the kid just kept attacking until he was finally put down. One thing though, drop the nickname “Cassius.” There’s only 1 Cassius and it was Clay.

J
ames Vick defeated Valmir Lazaro by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

Vick and Lazaro got into a mad brawl that didn’t contain the slightest bit of technique, but it was fun, at times, to watch. The length advantage played a big part and James showed some heart gutting through the rust as he humbly admitted post-fight.

Chas Skelly subbed Tom Niinimaki with a Rear-Naked Choke at 2:35 of of the initial round giving MMAFO yet another correct Upset Pick!

Chas, yes Chas, got the better of Niinimaki in the mad scramble and secured the choke. His name is Chas. Did we mention that?

Neil Magny defeated Alex Garcia by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)?!

Oooh not so sure the judges got his one correct. Good to see the judges rewarding action from the bottom but it still didn’t seem like Neil did enough to deserve the victory. What can you do? Congrats to Magny who continues to improve each time out.

Beneil Dariush taps Tony Martin via Arm-Triangle Choke at 3:38 of the 2nd round.

Who called it? MMAFO called it. Thats an Upset Pick winner as Dariush weathers the early storm to put it on Martin as he gassed in the 2nd round as predicted. Thankyouverymuch.

Matt Hobar defeated Aaron Phillips by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

And we move along.

Ben Saunders submits Chris Heatherly by Omoplata at 2:18 of the very 1st round!

Holy balls bitches, the “B” is back in the UFC with the league’s 1st ever Omoplata submission victory. That’s how he do! Chris threw a high kick just to set up the takedown and quickly Saunders had Heatherly in “mission control.” Then “Killa-B” manuvered into the “dead orchard” (both arms in triangle attempt) and began to cut away with his razor sharp elbows. Chris doesn’t like it and tries to roll away only to have Ben use his hip and leg to add pressure to the shoulder via the Omoplata, while using his left arm to secure a wrist lock as he presses down with all his might causing the scream of pain and the eventual tapout. Ben “Killa-B” Saunders makes history with the 1st ever Omoplata submission in the UFC! “Submission of the Weekend”

Michael Bisping destroyed Cung Le with Knees and Strikes at 0:57 of the 4th round.

So much for the haters that said the "Count" was finished, as Bisping beat Le's ass up and down the cage using his classic volume striking style. Cung threw some of his "spinning shit" but Mike saw most of it coming and countered with combinations. A punch, not a poke, to Le's eye began the swelling and then Bisping attacked the wounded foe. From there, the Brit just teed off as he pleased making Le's face an absolute mess. As the 4th round began, the "Count" laid the punches on Cung and grabbed him for a well timed knee that dropped the Sanshou master. Michael put on the finishing touches and screamed, "I'm not fucking going anywhere!" to the Middleweight division. "Performance of the Weekend"

Tyron Woodley TKO’d Dong Hyun Kim at 1:01 of the 1st round.

Zhang Lipeng defeated Brendan O’Reilly by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27).

Ning Guangyou defeated Jianping Yang via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) which is a little different than “by.”
