UFC Fight Night 48 (Macao) Bisping vs. Le: Picks, Prognostications, & Odds

August 23, 2014
Cotai Arena
Macao

Main Bouts on UFC Fight Pass:
Michael Bisping (24-6) -325 vs. Cung Le (9-2) +250

The "Count" meets the Sanshou master in an important fight for both competitors for very different reasons. Bisping lost last out as he was dry humped to death by Tim Kennedy for 15 minutes, and maybe was a bit rusty after being off for a full year with his eye injuries. If Mike wants to remain in the hunt at Middleweight, he must win here. Le, on the other hand, has been off for 2 years making terrible movies, and at the age of 42, needs to prove he can still hang in the division to justify future bouts in the UFC.

Though much has been made of Mike's inability to finish anyone with his "pillow fists," the guys boxing is stellar and he has never shown anything less than thoroughbred stamina in his fights.

Cung is a substantial kicker who employs various techniques with real power. There may also be some umph in his hands but he doesn't really put the technique together in combinations and relies heavily on a 1-punch lucky KO like against Rich Franklin.

Despite that insane picture of Le floating around the Internet where he's more jacked than Vitor Belfort on Meth infused steroids, he's 42, is known to gas out, and was never the elite of fighters due to the late transition to MMA. If Bisping was really smart, he'd take Cung down and tap him out with his underrated Jiu-Jitsu. The more likely scenario is that Mike uses that brilliant boxing to out point Le, avoiding the big strike while having zero fear of being taken down (unlike when Tim Kennedy tried to rut on him in April). C'mon, the rust will be gone for Bisping and old man Le will not be able to go 25 minutes. The "Count" rights the ship and puts the Middleweight division back on notice, whether he should or not.
WINNER-Michael Bisping by Decision

Tyron Woodley (13-3) -200 vs. Dong Hyun Kim (19-2-1) +160

Who wants to prove their legitimacy at 170? That is the story of this particular bout.

The "Donger" has looked stellar in his UFC career (10-2-1) stumbling only against bad ass Carlos Condit and Demian Maia against whom he suffered a rib injury that ended his night. Known as a "decision fighter," the "Stun Gun" has finished his last 2 foes with sizzling KO's. His cardio is always a concern as shown against Erick Silva, when he embarrassingly gassed out in the 2nd round!

"T-Wood" is a bit of a conundrum. Sometimes he's on point thrashing lesser thans like Josh Koscheck and Jay Hieron. Then there are those occasions against the likes of Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald where Woodley looks timid at best, and completely unsure of what to do. His wrestling is top notch but he just can't seem to pull the damn trigger against top competition and can be befuddled by a good game plan in fights.

If, the "Donger" does the gong and dash (no offense) like he did in his last fight against John Hathaway, he's going to find serious trouble. Kim has stated he wants to excite the fans and went for broke against the Brit. That is a horrible idea against Woodley. Tyron is coming off a loss, and history has shown he finds his aggressiveness after he falters, and brings the wrath of God with him. MMAFO doesn't like Hyun's suspect chin, not that many men can survive a full on power punch from Woodley anyway, and Tyron actually has the better endurance for once in his career. The "Donger's" takedown defense is also lacking at times and its going to be very hard for the Korean to get the wrestler down while trying to survive the stand up. Look for the Mizzou native to put Kim away early and if not, a 3 round beatdown is likely.
WINNER-Tyron Woodley by Rd.2 KO

Lipeng Zhang (7-7) +125 vs. Brendan O’Reilly (5-0) -155

The 3rd fight from the top features an undefeated fighter from Australia, and a .500 fighter from China where the UFC is desperate to make a star. Zhang won China's TUF but he isn't ready for the UFC. O'Reilly grinds him to death in a pointless fight.
WINNER-Brendan O'Reilly by Decision

Ning Guangyou (3-2-1) +165 vs. Jianping Yang (6-3-1) -205

Basically the TUF China Featherweight final. It could actually be fun to watch as Yang just beats the shit out of a fighter that couldn't hang in King of the Cage.
WINNER-Jianping Yang by Rd.1 TKO
Prelims on UFC Fight Pass:
Wang Sai (6-5) +170 vs. Danny Mitchell (14-5-1) -210

Jesus, where is the place where Sai could win this?
WINNER-Danny Mitchell by Decision

Alberto Mina (10-0) -225 vs. Shinsho Anzai (8-1) +175

Shinsho is game but he's taking this fight on a single weeks notice! Mina is a submission ace but he's got some Muay Thai skills and looks for finishes. This is Alberto's fight to lose.
WINNER-Alberto Mina by Rd.2 Submission

Roland Delorme (9-3) +130 vs. Yuta Sasaki (17-1-2) -160

"Ulka" is actually a pretty good grappler which is Delorme's only game. Roland is very weak offensively and Sasaki should show more heart sounding the victory horn for Japan.
WINNER-Yuta Sasaki by Decision

Anying Wang (2-0) +325 vs. Colby Covington (5-0) -450

Here's the classic striker versus wrestler but the striker has less experience, and is facing a wrestling monster from ATT that is going to bludgeon this poor bastard.
WINNER-Colby Covington by Rd.1 TKO

Yao Zhikui (1-0) +235 vs. Royston Wee (3-0) -305

This is just terrible.
WINNER-Royston Weeeeeeee

Elizabeth Phillips (4-2) +130 vs. Milana Dudieva (10-3) -160

Milana is the Russian wrestler who throws a lot of hooks. Phillips is more of a striker but doesn't have as much to offer all around.
WINNER-Milana Dudieva by Decision
