Alistair Overeem defeats Brett Rogers by Rd.1 TKO. The oft demanded, rarely seen Golden Glory champ comes out to good dance music to love for you man guy. Alistair has that douche bag frat boy stare and the "Grim" is missing his patented Mohawk. Overeem just looks more ath-el-etic as the jocks say these days, and throws Rogers to the ground with ease beginning the G&P. Its on with a grounded flying knee and a thrashing which leads to a turtled challenger and the referee stopping the bout. In the interview the aptly named "Demolition Man" calls out Fedor Emelianenko to fight and blames the Russian management which is becoming to loud to ignore. Mr. Rogers fails to bring the Championship home to Minnesota just like Bret Farve.
Antonio Silva defeats Andrei Arlovski by Unanimous Decision. ATT’s “Bigfoot” came in with a 5 inch reach advantage and a mug longer than Kentucky Derby winner “Super Saver.” The “Pitbull 2.0” came out in a pimp boxing robe and a big pop from the crowd. A stiff jab and hook land for Silva as he quickly gets the better of Arlovski even landing a big right hand that hurt Andrei, but he stayed conscious for a moral victory. Everyone was clinched up in the 2nd with Silva winning the uneventful round. Referee “Big” John McCarthy admonishes the men to “work” before he starts the final 5 minutes. Just before the 2:00 minute mark Arlovski lands a high kick and his best punch of the night only to find himself stuffed into the cage again and slammed to the mat. Antonio does some odd dancing before the fight is over being an ass I guess, and winning the bout by Decision 29-28. The “Pitbull 2.0” looked exactly like the “Pitbull” of old and has now lost a trio in a row.
Ronaldo Souza defeats Joey Villasenor by Unanimous Decision. The gator got takedowns whenever he wanted but credit “Smokin” Joe for surviving and finding great wrestling escapes. In the final round, Joey was feeling more confident and “Jacare” was bleeding from the mouth. Villasenor began stopping the takedowns for the most part but when Souza secured the floor plan, he began points building as the commentators said, "Joey is wearing Jacare out." while held in check and doing nothing:) The ref stands them up though Ron was obviously working but a quick takedown earns him the judges favor. Souza 30-27
Roger Gracie defeats Kevin Randleman by RNC in the 2nd round. Mr. Randleman held on and fought well but eventually went to sleep. If we know anything about the Gracie’s its that they lack endurance and have weak stand up skills. Roger said he trained 20% striking and 80% grappling with the gi on. What this tells me is this kid is stupid and won’t go far. You normally can’t fight with the gi on and ignoring the glaring weaknesses in one’s game is a plan for disaster. The cardio seemed alright but who knows against an opponent who can still compete (sorry “Monster”).
Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante gets a KO win over Antwain Britt in a spirited affair. The Britt from Virginia looked better on the feet landing more but with the big bombers it only takes 1. The head kick that began the fall was nice but the final hooks and beautiful uppercut ended the night.
4-1 on the picks.
