Ronaldo Souza submitted Gegard Mousasi by Guillotine Choke at 4:30 of the 3rd round.
“Jacare” had little trouble controlling “Sweet Sassy” Mousasi who did not employ staunch takedown defense as predicted. Gegard only got a few licks in as Souza worked top game and wore down the Armenian until the eventual tap.

There is little doubt now that Ronaldo Souza should be the #1 contender and face the winner of Champion Chris Weidman versus Vitor Belfort. “Jacare” is on a 7 fight winning streak with only 1 opponent making it to the final bell!
As for the “Dreamcatcher,” he has, and we mean HAS, to work on his wrestling game. It is the single glaring hole that holds the very talented Mousasi from taking the next step to becoming a UFC Champion. “Submission of the Night”
Ben Rothwell TKO’d Alistair Overeem via Punches at 2:19 of the very 1st round.
“Ubereem” used knees to the body and a hard kick that broke Ben’s arm and still, a single clubbing blow felled the “Reem.” Overeem is now 2 and 3 since joining Zuffa. All 3 of those losses came by KO in fights he was winning, but after 9 career KO losses, its hard not to question Alistair’s ability to take a punch. The Jackson/Winkeljohn experiment thus far, isn’t looking good.

Matt Mitrione KO’d Derrick Lewis with brutal Punches only 0:41 into the 1st round!
The two behemouths clashed in the cage and exchanged blows but it was Mitrione that remained standing while Lewis crashed to the canvas. Matt wasn’t about to allow Derrick the time to recover and delivered a bevy of 9 unanswered punches that forced the ref to halt the onslaught. Post fight Mitrione said, “I was a little hood in this one,” “I’m a grown ass man don’t say my name unless you’re going to bring it.” Ha ha, and atta boy to double M as he is now tied in 2nd place in the UFC with 7 KO wins! “KO of the Night”
Joe Lauzon defeated Michael Chiesa via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 2:14 of the 2nd round.
“J Lau” and Chiesa absolutely went to war, but a well placed knee opened up the eyebrow of Michael and forced the doctors to stop the fight. Chiesa was incredulous at the stoppage but Lauzon is now officially the record holder for most “Performance Bonuses” all time passing GOAT Anderson Silva!
Prelim (UFC FIGHT PASS) Results
John Moraga submitted Justin Scoggins via Guillotine Choke at 0:47 of Round 2.
Along with Justin, we at MMAFO are shaking our heads at this one. Scoggins stuck his head into Moraga’s awaiting arms time and time again. Finally, the snare snapped shut and Moraga tapped him. No idea what the hell the kid was thinking on this one.
Al Iaquinta TKO’d Rodrigo Damm with Punches at 2:41 of the last round.
Al Iaquinta TKO’d Rodrigo Damm with Punches at 2:41 of the last round.
Hey Al, don’t walk away until the referee says the fight is over. Iaquinta dropped Damm and walked away though Herb Dean made them continue fighting. Al got the finish, but not before taking some real dangerous shots from the Brazilian that almost cost the Serra/Longo product big.
