MMAFO doesn’t care how many times the UFC emails and texts us to do our patented Picks & Prognostications for all their events, we’re not going to cover shit cards. Dana can rant and rave all he wants on our new iPhone 6, we’re taking a stand on picking crappy events. That being said, lets pick the spectacular WSOF 14 card!
Main Card on NBC Sports:
Ryan Ford vs. Jake Shields
Ryan Ford vs. Jake Shields
The WSOF Canadian Welterweight Champion (seriously, that’s a thing) doesn’t put his belt on the line but does welcome Mr. Jake Shields to the promotion.
Ryan, who cannot compete in America because he and some friends once held a man at gunpoint for a debt collection, assaulted the man’s girlfriend, and nearly cut off two of the man’s fingers for which he did 4 years hard time (we can’t make this shit up), comes in on a 6 fight winning streak. This thug trains out of the Tristar gym and has stopped 12 men with strikes and 8 with submissions.
Mr. Shields is returning from a tough loss to Hector Lombard which got him his walking papers from the UFC and took 7 months off to heal. Jake, as we know, is an American Jiu-Jitsu capitalist who has a penchant for making opponents look bad.
Ford may be human garbage, and have a bloated record the contains a list of nobody’s, but he’s got some natural power and skills from the best MMA camp in Canada. But he’s no Jake Shields. The Cesar Gracie product is a former Strikeforce, Elite XC, and Shooto Champion who has faced the absolute best in the world time and time again. If you think Ryan “2 Fingers” Ford has something new to offer Jake, think again. Jake do what he do and grinds Ryan down for, you guessed it, a judges nod.
WINNER- Jake Shields by Decision
Smealinho Rama vs. Derrick Mehmen

Smealinho Rama vs. Derrick Mehmen
Schema Rama ding dong is the giant Canadian “Prince” who is coming off a victory over fellow card member Tim Hague.
Hard Drive’s “Caveman” has won 6 in a row since a loss in the now defunct Strikeforce and possesses a more varied skill set than his Northern foe. “Meh-man” isn’t bad (see what we did there with his name?) but relies on his wrestling skills as all men are forced to do who are from Iowa.
Rama has defeated a wrestler before when he bested Steve Mocco, a 4 time NCAA All-American Champion and a 2008 Olympian, so he’s a no scurred. Still, Derrick is a more MMA style of wrestler who can strike as well but will be better suited to ground the youngster en route to a safer victory on the cards.
WINNER- Derrick Mehman by Decision
Chris Horodecki vs. Luis Huete
WINNER- Derrick Mehman by Decision
Chris Horodecki vs. Luis Huete
The “Polish Hammer” can’t decide if he wants to be a MMA fighter, or a bar brawler. Some nights the baby faced kickboxer looks like a star, and other nights fights like a moron drunk on box wine. Here Chris is getting a guy with far less experience whom he should devour.
WINNER- Chris Horodecki by Rd.1 TKO
Luke Harris vs. Jared Hamman
WINNER- Chris Horodecki by Rd.1 TKO
Luke Harris vs. Jared Hamman
You may remember Hamman from his UFC days where he went 2-5 and stayed around mainly because he got knocked out in spectacular fashion and made exciting fights. He’s a striker who has become chinny at age 32.
Harris is no spring chicken at 37, but he has taken far less damage and is a submission ace having submitted 10 men for all of his victories (all in the very 1st round!). The rub is that his 2 losses come from TKO’s.
We have zero confidence in Hamman at this time in his career but he'll put hands on Harris till he falls.
WINNER- Jared Hamman by Rd.1 TKO
Prelims
Tim Hague vs. Craig Hudson
WINNER- Jared Hamman by Rd.1 TKO
Prelims
Tim Hague vs. Craig Hudson
Tim is a good fella who has gone 6-4 since having a cup of tea with the UFC back in ’11. “The Thrashing Machine” is a KO man primarily. Tim is either facing Craig Hudson or Sandy Bowman depending on who you ask, but either way, he’s winning by knockout.
WINNER- Tim Hague by Rd.1 KO
