Luke Rockhold submitted Michael Bisping by Guillotine Choke at 0:58 of the 2nd round.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Rockhold actually seemed to have trouble with Bisping’s striking early, not taking damage per say, but being unable to connect on the “Count” in significant fashion. Then came the 2nd round when Luke and under appreciated hook kick backed Michael away, before bringing the full power head kick that dropped Bisping to the mat. The “Count” tried to battle back to his feet but Rockhold deftly latched onto a Guillotine, rolling into mount position, and finished it with a single left arm while pushing up with the right. It really was a thing of beauty and Bisping was submitted for the 1st time in his career.

Now, Bisping was quoted as saying the accidental headbutt in the 1st round left him with memory loss, but those high kicks didn’t help either. The Brit should have mentioned the badly damaged foot which has been gruesomely pictured all over the Internet, but perhaps he was too out of it to know. The title chances are gone for Bisping but a lucrative future in the UFC is not. Michael still sells fights and there are plenty of interesting matches for him still to come. A possible old timer’s match against Rich Franklin (who wants to fulfill the final fight on his contract) is already out there in the ether, and its not like the entire Middleweight division isn’t going to continue to call him out to try and get famous. Bisping isn’t done yet.

For Rockhold’s part, this was personal, but its time to get back on the trail of the title. Not because of this fight, but because of his size, skill, and fight intelligence, MMAFO is going on record right now that this guy, will defeat Chris Weidman if given the chance. Luke is an absolute killer in the cage and has so many tools its almost unfair. Let’s hope he focuses on that and not revenge against the cheating juiced to the gills Vitor Belfort.

Al Iaquinta TKO’d Ross Pearson with Punches at 1:39 of the 2nd round.

Jesus, Ross had nothing for Iaquinta. Al showed the Brit zero respect working with his hands down and just blasted Ross when he felt like it. It was obvious quickly that Pearson was far slower than Al and he never seemed to get into gear anyway. Pearson looked lost, unable to cut off the Serra-Longo students rapid movement. A bad night for Pearson but he’ll be back so no worries.

While Iaquinta isn’t going to fight for a title in his career, he’ll always sprinkle in performances like this one where he is on point. But, there will also continue to be the times when he shits the bed, making giant mistakes in the cage. Frankly, this kid isn’t very smart but he works hard and will eventually make a good gatekeeper for the division.

Robert Whittaker TKO’d Clint Hester via Punches at 2:43 of the 2nd round.

This one was a lot of fun. Both men came out throwing to kill. Hester hit a nice spinning elbow but Whittaker took it on the chin like it was nothing. The longer the fight went, the more wild Clint became which would be his downfall. Perhaps just too excited, Hester couldn’t be reeled in and Robert took advantage landing leg kicks and uppercuts. Clint began to slow and BAM, a knee to the face took his will to fight and Whittaker wasted no time securing the kill. Great fight. “Fight of the Night”

Soa Palelei TKO’d Walt Harris with Punches at 4:49 of the 2nd round.

This was just awful. Eventually, Palelei did what he do, getting Harris to the ground and pounded him out. Walt is just too green to be in the UFC and can’t seem to take much damage.

Soa isn’t going to make any kind of run for the title but he’s a fan favorite down under so what can you do?

Jake Matthews submitted Vagner Rocha via RNC at 1:52 of the 2nd round.

Good on the “Celtic Kid” dispatching Rocha who will not be in the UFC very much longer. Let’s get Matthews some decent competition and see what he can really do.

Anthony Perosh tapped Guto Inocente by RNC at 3:46 of the initial round.

You can’t stop the “Hippo!” Like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeating Brendan Schaub in Brazil, the hometown veteran hero Perosh blasted Guto, took him down into the swamp, and tapped him with relative ease. Ya just gotta love watching the old timer continue to embarrass these youngsters with his Jiu-Jitsu game. And the crowd goes wild!
“Submission of the Night”

Sam Alvey KO’d Dylan Andrews via Punches and Slam at 2:16 of the opening round.

In the most laughable fight of the evening. Andrews went to slam Alvey, but knocked himself silly allowing Sam to mount him and tee off. That had to be humiliating and now Alvey has actually won a UFC fight! Who’d of guessed?

Louis Smolka TKO’d Richie Vaculik via Strikes and a sweet side kick at 0:18 of the last round.

Vaculik was owning Smolka for 10 minutes but there is that pesky 3rd round. Louis stomped his foot and delivered the step in “sweet chin music” crushing Richie’s jaw. Smolka pounced and we have a crazy fun upset! “(T)KO of the Night”

Chris Clements TKO’d Vik Grujic with Strikes at 3:06 of round uno.

Daniel Kelly submitted Luke Zachrich via Kimura at 4:27 of round 1.

Marcus Brimage KO’d Jumabieke Tuerxun by Head-Kick at 2:58 of the 1st round.

Ovince Saint Preux TKO’d Mauricio Rua with a bevy of Punches at 0:34 of the 1st round.

“Shogun” was aggressively stalking OSP when he missed with a wild overhand and ate the counter on the dome. Rua went down in a heap and the Tennessee Volunteer unloaded a barrage of strikes that put the Brazilian to sleep and quickly emptied the arena of fans.

This was bad. Real bad. Since losing the title to Jon Jones, “Shougn” has gone 3-5 getting starched twice in violent fashion. Rua turns 34 later this year but he’s been in some ultra-violent wars and whether he will admit it or not, retirement is looming. Obviously, pride will not allow Mauricio to exit on a 34 second loss, but if he chooses to soldier on, a Brazilian super fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is about all that makes sense for a swan song.

For OSP’s part, this is the biggest win of his career. Flying to hostile territory on short notice is courage enough, but destroying the Brazilian legend puts him back “in the mix” at 205. Fabio Maldonado has already accepted OSP’s call out challenge, and that sounds about right for MMAFO.

Warlley Alves defeated Alan Jouban by controversial Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Christ in a hammock this was an awful decision by the judges! Warlley looked great in the opening frame, but in the 2nd frame, a liver kick from Alan seemed to steal his soul. When the 3rd round began, Alves was done. He had zero left in the gas tank and was a punching bag for the remainder of the fight. Somehow, the 3 blind judges saw a different fight than the rest of the world, and Warlley steals a victory he didn’t earn.

The rose is off the bloom here. For all the blue chip prospect talk (which yes, MMAFO was a part of), Alves looked vastly flawed. Warlley was very hittable and even before he completely gassed out, he seemed quite lazy. We shall see how be rebounds from this loss, er, we mean, win.

Jouban continues to be a fun fighter to watch. This kid brings the fight and can really push the pace. Everyone knows this is not a loss though his record will reflect it. A slight step up in competition should show a reward for his unrewarded efforts.

Claudio Silva defeated Leon Edwards via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Again, seemed like a poor decision from MMAFO’s standpoint. Granted, this was nowhere near a robbery and was a close contest, but Leon easily controlled the fight when standing, with clean striking. When Claudio grounded Edwards, he struggled mightily and that could be what the judges saw that cost him the night. Ah well, decent fight from both men. “Fight of the Night”

Dhiego Lima defeated Jorge Oliveira by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Lima owned Oliveira taking him to the canvas time and time again. Jorge had nothing to offer but Dhiego should be a bit disappointed in himself having the RNC locked up more than once, but unable to finish the fight. Still, not a bad showing for Douglas’ younger brother.

Juliana Lima defeated Nina Ansaroff via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

As predicted, this was a terrible fight between two ladies that have no business being in the UFC. Let’s move along…

Diego Rivas defeated Rodolfo Rubio by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Unlike the aforementioned ladies match, Rivas actually looked much better than predicted. Diego struck for takedowns in every single round and roughed up Rubio standing. Not a bad nights work for the undefeated Chilean.

Caio Magalhaes KO’d Trevor Smith via Strikes and Knee at 0:31 of the initial round.

A left hand backed Smith away and then the flying knee put Trevor down. From there, Magalhaes just swarmed and this was over quickly. “KO of the Night”

Leandro Silva submitted Charlie Brenneman by RNC at 4:15 of the opening round.

The “Spaniard” is a complete disaster. Sorry guy, but nobody implodes like Brenneman. Good luck in whatever else you choose to do with your life. MMA is not for you. “Submission of the Night”

Thomas Almeida defeated Tim Gorman via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

Almeida really had to work for the win as Gorman just kept coming at him absorbing strikes with little effect. When Tim did land on Thomas, he made it count as Almeida’s right eye was badly damaged. A pretty entertaining affair and not nearly the expected blowout.

Colby Covington submitted Wagner Silva by RNC at 3:26 of the last round.

Colby took his time, but eventually got where he needed to be for the win. Covington was in control the whole way, but Silva wasn’t giving up easily and fought like hell. Colby’s stand up really needs work but that NCAA All-American wrestling got him though this evening.

Honesty time, MMAFO did just awful on the picks this weekend. It was bad. We lost money and dropped all our good percentages. Shit weekend. Anywho, 13-8 on the picks. 7-3 on UFN 55, and 6-5 on UFN 56.

Finally, all the best to Ian "Uncle Creepy" McCall who got sick from a blood virus and had to pull out of his fight. Ian seems to have the worst luck, something we at MMAFO know something about, but he'll be back and the title will eventually be his.
