Rose Namajunas submitted Paige VanZant via RNC at 2:25 of the 5th and final round in a dominating performance!
Well, Rose absolutely out classed and destroyed PVZ over 5 rounds. From the jump, Rose's 1-2's popped back the head of the unprepared Paige who had no answer for the striking coming her way. Namajunas got more and more comfortable as the fight progressed and employed her grappling skills with great success on the mat as well.
There are good things to be said about VanZant as well. The youngling is tough as nails and still "never said die" as she tried and tried again to contend in this bout. Rose dropped an absolutely brutal elbow down on Paige with cut open her right cheek and poured blood onto her face. The wound would be reopened many times in the fight and at one point the blood poured into PVZ's eyes completely blinding her. Even so, Paige kept scrapping and earned respect showing what a truly tough fighter she is.
The talk here though will no doubt be the masterful skills of the former "Thug." Rose looked calm, collected, and exposed her opponent on multiple occasions. With Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk likely to rematch Claudia Gadelha next, the returning Joanna Calderwood would make sense for Namajunas. "MVP of the Night" & "Submission of the Night"
Michael Chiesa tapped Jim Miller by RNC at 2:57 of the 2nd Round.
Miller equated himself well early on and even rolled beautifully for a kneebar/heel hook that he almost secured. As Chiesa escaped the hold, he unloaded punches that seemed to hurt Jim who exposed his neck which Mikey latched on to immediately. Miller fought but had no choice but to tap after an entertaining grapple fest that saw both men have their moments and be cut open badly. "Fight of the Night"
Sage Northcutt submitted Cody Pfister via Guillotine at 0:41 of into the 2nd round.
It was a sloppy but fun fight. Pfister had some moments getting top position as young Sage showed he had zero idea what to do on the ground and simply held on for dear life praying for a stand up. Northcutt's God answered and the men were stood back up to a chorus of boo's from the crowd who saw the favoritism.
In the 2nd, Sage grabbed the choke and showed his enormous strength clamping down forcing Cody to tap. Not the best performance for Northcutt but at 19 years of age, its not terrible either. He obviously has work to do but the potential is undeniable.
Then there was his post-fight speech. "I love Fight Pass, heh, heh." with that stupid grin on his face. This douchebag is unlikable and recommended fans Google a Bible verse. MMAFO recommends one as well.
Try looking up Ezekiel 23:19. "Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals - as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions."
Thiago Santos Upset Elias Theodorou by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27) in a bloody contest.
We said it, Theodorou is overrated and we didn't see what the hype was all about. His striking is questionably praised and he tired yet again. Good on Santos who capitalized and opened up a Marvin Eastman sized vagina gash on Elias' head. It was grotesque and from there Thiago opened up a can of whoop ass.
Tim Means KO'd John Howard via Punch at 0:21 of the 2nd round.
Tim had an egregious fence grab to begin the contest but battled back to land a left hook of perfection that decimated Howard. That could be the end for John and credit Means for showing true class as he waited for "Doomsday" to come back to life. "KO of the Night"
Sergio Moraes staged a comeback to TKO Omari Akhmedov with Punches at 2:18 of the final round.
"Happy" Moraes survived an early knockdown to lean on his cardio and survive while Akhmedov faded yet again. The gassed Omari won the 1st two rounds but was too tired in the 3rd to protect his chin as Sergio landed a bomb and followed up with a nice combination.
Antonio Carlos Junior versus Kevin Casey was declared 0:11 into the initial round due to Accidental Eye-Poke.
Carlos Junior should be ashamed as he reached out with his fingers extended and badly gashed Casey's eye forcing the fastest "No Contest" in UFC history (fun fact). We wish Kevin all the best and a speedy recovery.
Aljamain Sterling submitted Johnny Eduardo via Guillotine at 4:18 of the 2nd round in an impressive performance.
"Al-J" started a bit slow but exploded in the 2nd frame using his great wrestling to ground this contest before unleashing hellish elbows in guard.
A big win for Sterling who now has some real bargaining power going into contract negotiations with Zuffa who desperately needs Bantamweight contenders.
Ponzinibbio's combinations were rapid and repeating. Stahl simply covered up (shades of Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz) and just got blown out of the cage. MMAFO is very high on Santiago and can't wait to see more.
Danny Roberts submitted Nathan Coy via Triangle Choke at 2:46 of the 1st round.
Coy got the takedown he wanted but fell into Danny's trap as he secured the triangle and the tap.
Zubaira Tukhugov defeated Phillipe Nover by Split Decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27).
Neither guy was impressive but this should have been scored 29-28 across the board for Tukhugov though the judges got almost everything wrong.
"Kegel's" pressure had Curran on her heels for a while in this one but Kailin stayed calm and eventually snatched the choke in lightning quick fashion catching Emily off guard and securing her 1st UFC win. Curran is also smoking hot btw.
