UFC Fight Night 89 Results: Calderwood & Cowboy Dominate!

Here are the UFC Fight Night 89 results via MMAFO's opinion of importance, dominance, and public interest.

Joanne Calderwood TKO'd Valerie Letourneau via body kick at 2:51 of the 3rd round.

"Dr. Kneevil" escaped an early armbar attempt (which has beaten her in the past) and dropped Valerie to the mat after a naughty spinning elbow. Joanne accidentally wakes Val back up with subsequent punches and dominated the opening round.

"Bad MoFo JoJo" was on point after training at Tristar and rocked Letourneau's body. The wonderful Calderwood front (push) kick was back, on target, and on full display as she punished Letourneau. Multiple kicks to the chest of Valerie had her hurt but also "JoJo's" foot got caught in her Reebok tank top frustrating Letourneau who thought she had been exposed. Joanne showed class allowing Val to adjust her top and then broke Letourneau with more body shots.

A great dominating win for "Bad MoFo JoJo" who has announced her return as an elite woman warrior. The Scot has now won 2 in a row and has only been bested a single time in her career. The move to Tristar seems successful as she looked solid, confident, and prepared. Well done Joanne Calderwood and we expect only more good things from MMAFO's favorite female fighter!

Donald Cerrone TKO'd Patrick Cote with punches at 2:35 of the 3rd round.

"Cowboy" was nothing but dominant as he teed off on Cote as he pleased. Pat tried to stay in the fight and called on Donald for action for which he paid a heavy price continually. The left hand was the real weapon for Cerrone as it dropped Cote multiple times and was the precipice that set up the final right hands that put Patrick away. "Cowboy" is a machine and perhaps he's going to stay at 170 as he is looking very good. Maybe the lesser weight cut is making him more durable or just the fresh coat of paint has him feeling good but Cerrone is definitely rolling as a Welterweight.

Stephen Thompson defeated Rory MacDonald by Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 48-47).

Rory was never able to bridge the gap of distance between him and "Wonderboy" and he never really got in the fight. Thompson took every round and MacDonald's nose was not properly healed from the Robbie Lawler fight and broke yet again. This after Rory stated said proboscis broke multiple times in camp.

MacDonald rolled the dice as this was the final fight on his UFC contract and now he plays the free agent field after losing a fight and leverage. A rough evening for the "Red King" and he needs surgery for his nose and perhaps a long layoff.

Okay "Wonderboy," we see you. Thompson proved us wrong and he is now a top contender for the Welterweight crown. That's 7 in a row for Stephen and some really big ranked wins along the way. Title shot coming soon.

Steve Bosse defeated Sean O’Connell via Unanimous Decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28) in a slobber knocker.

The "Hockey Goon" Bosse hit harder and had superior conditioning in a raging swing till you die war! It was fun as hell even if not the most technical display of MMA skills. Great viewing though and one you need to watch if'n you didn't see it. "Fight of the Night"

Misha Cirkunov submitted Ion Cutelaba by arm triangle choke at 1:22 of the 3rd round and looks impressive in the shallow Light Heavyweight division.

Krzysztof Jotko KO'd Tamdan McCory with a brutal punch 0:59 into the opening round.

Well, the "Barn Cat" got caught with a bomb and went to sleep quickly! Wow, that was rough. "KO of the Night"

Joe Soto submitted Chris Beal via rear naked choke at 3:39 of the 3rd round.

Soto took a bit of a beating on the feet but showed some true heart and eventually took Beal to where he was weakest for the tap. Well done Joe who snaps a 3 fight losing streak. "Submission of the Night"

Ali Bagautinov defeated Geane Herrera by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Colby Covington tapped Jonathan Meunier via rear naked choke at 0:54 of the last round.

Randa Markos defeated Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

Elias Theodorou defeated Sam Alvey via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

Jason Saggo defeated Leandro Silva by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Olivier Aubin-Mercier submitted Thibault Gouti via rear naked choke at 2:28 of the 3rd round.

8-5 on the picks as MMAFO continues to slump.
