UFC Fight Night 90 Results: Eddie Alvarez "The Underground King" of The UFC!

UFC Fight Night 90 Results:

Eddie Alvarez TKO’d Rafael dos Anjos with a barrage of strikes at 3:49 of the very 1st round.

DREAM Lightweight Champion. Bellator Lightweight Champion. And now, UFC Lightweight Champion! "The Underground King" Eddie Alvarez has quietly become one of the most accomplished 155ers of all time!

RDA came out throwing a bevy of combinations that seemed to have Alvarez on his heels for a moment. Then a right hook from Eddie discombobulated Rafael who danced around the cage barely remaining upright. Alvarez then unleashed a volley of strikes with his right, his left, to the body, to the head, and even throwing out a flying knee that missed. Eddie continued to pour on an onslaught of offense forcing referee Herb Dean to finally stop the madness even though RDA miraculously stayed on his feet. Eddie just slaughtered dos Anjos to become the UFC Lightweight Champion as a 3-1 underdog.

Amazing way to start off the three fight cards this weekend. Congratulations to Mr. Alvarez who has had a long journey to this point and gone through many tribulations along the way.

Derrick Lewis defeated Roy Nelson via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Do you believe takedowns without offense are worth more than damaging strikes? That is the question about this fight. Most MMA watchers scored the bout 1-1 going into the final round. Nelson secured a couple of takedowns but then just laid on top of Lewis exhausted and doing nothing but controlling him with his belly. Both times that Derrick got up he cracked Roy with thunderous punches that wounded "Big Country" though he remained standing. Lewis was letting uppercuts go that would decapitate normal human beings but Nelson hung on for dear life. MMAFO has no problem with the decision and scored it 29-28 for Lewis as well.

The best part of all this was post fight when Lewis said, "Shiiit. Black Beast up in this hoe." Fucking hilarious!

Alan Jouban defeated Belal Muhammad by Unanimous Decision (28-27, 29-28, 29-27).

"Ladies Love" Jouban dropped Muhammad with punches three times in this fight but was unable to put the tough newcomer away. Alan unable to find accuracy each time Belal fell to the canvas allowing for the Chicagoan to recover. Jouban was exhausted by the final round and had broken his left hand in two places! Muhammad mounted a comeback for the final five but was unable to overcome the Brazilian in a fun match. "Fight of the Night"

Joseph Duffy submitted Mitch Clarke via Rear-Naked Choke only 0:25 into the bout!

A punch literally had Clarke's feet in the air as he face planted on the mat quickly into this contest. Duffy followed up his punch with some G&P before Mitch turtled to recover and "Irish" Joe latched onto the RNC. It was quick and impressive as Duffy got back in to the win column in emphatic fashion.

Alberto Mina KO’d Mike Pyle by Flying Knee at 1:17 of the 2nd round.

Mina has some real power at Welterweight. Alberto threw a picturesque flying knee that caught Pyle right on the chin and ended his evening. A couple of unnecessary follow up strikes and Mike was badly hurt. Mina remains unbeaten and is one to watch at 170. "KO of the Night"

John Makdessi defeated Mehdi Baghdad by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Eh, Makdessi struggled with Baghdad's size advantage for two rounds but somehow got the nod from the judges. It's not a robber per say, but not how we scored the bout. Either way John isn't going anywhere at Lightweight and should try to make Featherweight where he wouldn't be so undersized.

Anthony Birchak defeated Dileno Lopes via Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

These guys threw technique out the window and threw punches with abandon. Both men had their moments but Lopes gassed out which lost him this one.

Pedro Munhoz tapped Russell Doane by Guillotine Choke 2:08 into the 1st round.

Doane came out on fire and bloodied Munhoz early on. Pedro kept his cool and secured a takedown before catching Russell in the guillotine as he tried to stand. Well done sir. "Submission of the Night"

Felipe Arantes defeated Jerrod Sanders via verbal submission from an Armbar at 1:39 of the 2nd round.

Not sure what Sanders was thinking here. Arantes telegraphed the armbar attempt a mile away and Jerrod just let him slowly secure the hold. Sanders had been winning the fight up to this moment and just let it slip away.

Gilbert Burns submitted Lukasz Sajewski by Armbar at 4:57 of the opening round.

Burns was all over Sajewski with a big knee, right hand, and front kick to the face before taking Lukasz down and transitioning to the armbar. That was dominance.

Marco Beltran tapped Reginaldo Vieira via Rear-Naked Choke at 3:04 of the 2nd round.

Vicente Luque submitted Alvaro Herrera by D’Arce choke at 3:52 of the 2nd round.
