UFC on Fox 20 Holm vs. Shevchenko: Picks, Prognostications + Odds

July 23, 2016
United Center
Chicago, Illinois

Main Card on FOX:

Holly Holm (10-1) -225 vs. Valentina Shevchenko (12-2) +175

Two female gunners meet in a mad dash to face the new women's Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes. Holly is coming off the 1st loss of her professional MMA career while Vale, who is coming off a loss to title holder "Lioness," and the shooting of her coach/hero Pavel Fedotov who tried to stop a robbery in Peru with "Bullet" in tow. High stakes and crazy lives in the combat world.

"The Preacher's Daughter" made a mistake and got tapped out by Miesha Tate 3.5 months ago, but she's much better now. Holm will bring her rangy striking game and long, glorious, shapely, beautiful, picturesque legs to maintain distance. Holly wants to drag Shevchenko deep into this one after wearing her down a bit and then slowly upping the ante.

The "Bullet" has had a stressful camp what with her longtime coach/friend being shot in front of her in dramatic fashion and all. However, a brush with death like that can really realign one's world and the striker how can soften you up standing before submitting you on the mat.

This could be a bit disappointing to fans. We're just tapering expectations as Holm has a tendency to be inactive early on in bouts and prefers a slow grind which MMAFO respects on every level. Shevy on the chase (ha!) could speed up the action a bit but just be ready for a chess match. Anywho, Holly should win the day but we really can't say why. Both have good technique and neither have power yet gloves are going to be flying. Basically we just have a gut feeling and total prejudice for the classy lady, who is a great example for all little girls, to find the way to win.

WINNER-Holly Holm by Decision

Edson Barboza (17-4) -225 vs. Gilbert Melendez (22-5) +175

"El Nino" is back from a year long suspension for a PED which really could have been a blessing for the 34 year old who has been very active in a destructive sport. His body has had time to heal and Melendez has one of the largest arsenals in every facet of MMA today. The former WEC and Strikeforce Champion has struggled in the UFC going 1-3 but the losses were each to former title holders.

Across the cage will be Eddie. What can one say about him? 11-4 for Zuffa in a long career but he just can't get over the elite at 155. Every time he gets a shot at the big guys he falters. Barbie whips leg kicks like nobody's business and is a great striker but his chin has failed him many times though officially only once for the loss.

MMAFO has never been believers in Barboza but Melendez is coming off a long suspension that could make him rusty and let's be honest for a moment, the guy has plateaued. We're not trying to hate on a guy we like but Gil simply came to the UFC after his prime. Its going to be hard to get the work he needs to get done against Ed in 15 minutes. Take the Brazilian for a 2-1 win on the cards. Sorry "El Nino."

WINNER-Edson Barboza by Decision

Francisco Ngannou (7-1) -650 vs. Bojan Mihajlovic (10-3) +425

Terrifying. Ngannou is fucking terrifying! This giant French monster is on a 6 fight bounce and hits with the power of a freight train. Bojan is here to sacrifice his body to the continuation of Franny's career.

WINNER-Franciso Ngannou by Rd.2 TKO

Felice Herrig (10-6) -115 vs. Kailin Curran (4-2) -110

As much as MMAFO hates donks (sup Luke Thomas) like Dominick Cruz, Tito Ortiz, or Vitor Belfort, Felice Herrig fits right in there with the scum. This lady is a cunt. No other way to say it. She sucks as a human being and tries using her femininity to stay relevant. Fine, do your thang but nobody respects your lackluster wrestling skills and poor striking.

Curran got her 1st UFC win last December but has struggled mightily to date. Kailin did blonde her hair up a bit so there's that. She just hasn't been able to put anything together and yet, yet we are still picking her. Why, an obvious case of prejudicial hate. Pick accordingly fight fans.
