UFC 203 Miocic vs. Overeem: Picks, Prognostications + Odds

September 10, 2016
Quicken Loans Arena
Cleveland, Ohio

Main Card on PPV:

Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic (15-2) -135 vs. Alistair Overeem (41-14, 1) +115

It took "Steepay" a lil' over 2 minutes to starch Fabricio Werdum in March to become the UFC Heavyweight Champion. The hometown hero is truly the one who broke the Cleveland title curse (fuck the Cavs btw) and now he brings the strap back to Ohio. Miocic is a heavy hitting boxer who has gone 25 minutes twice in his career. That will be key here as his overrated wrestling game will not come into play.

"Ubereem" has transformed his physique many times in his career morphing from a skinny into a gargantuan murderer. A failed PED test later, and Alistair slimmed down to a svelte Heavyweight utilizing movement to protect his glass jaw and keep foes guessing. "The Reem" was also intelligent enough to seek guidance from the Jackson-Wink camp that has taught him "safe" means of combat to keep the gas tank full as well.

Dur-a-bility. Stipe has it and Alistair does not. Miocic is going to be a step behind Overeem but he'll land with more power and patience. As the evening progresses, "Steepay" will find that giant target on the "Demolition Man's" fragile face and put him in the dark lands. It will take some time but hold fast to the champ to stop Alistair in dramatic fashion.

WINNER-Stipe Miocic by Rd.3 TKO

Fabricio Werdum (20-5-1) -210 vs. Travis Browne (18-4-1) +175 2 [Rematch]

Just two years ago, the "Go Horse" controlled Browne to win a unanimous decision. Since, "Annoying Moron Face" won and lost the belt and is now looking to climb back to the top. Werdum knows he made a dumb mistake rushing after Miocic in his last affair and won't make the same mistake twice. Coach Rafael Cordeiro will not allow it. The Muay Thai has improved and the Jiu-Jitsu is always top notch.

Travvy is stepping in for the injured Ben Rothwell and looking to erase the annihilation he suffered at the hands of Cain Velasquez in July (it could be too soon to come back from TKO). "Hapa" seems to have plateaued in our brilliant opinion as he has always been a good striker but that is all he brings. Natural length has not kept him from getting rocked many, many times in fights.

We may not like Werdum, but we are not believers in Browne. Travis gets hurt far too often and Fabricio is far smarter and able to bring more facets from the toolbox. "Vai Cavalo" figures out Ronda's man and amasses the points needed for the judges nod.

WINNER-Fabricio Werdum by Decision

Phil Brooks (0-0) +375 vs. Mickey Gall (2-0) -470

The man called "CM Punk" is a 38 year old professional wrestler who has spent two years training for this, his MMA debut. Honestly, MMAFO couldn't give a shit. Pundits have stated time and time again that this raises the pay of all MMA fighters because Punk brings eyeballs from his WWE days. Bullshit. They have wasted an entire series on Phillip called, The Evolution of Punk and the ratings have been shit. The time could have been time used to promote veterans who have dedicated their lives to MMA and deserve a righteous push into the spotlight. Maybe, if the UFC was planting him as the initial fight of the evening or somewhere low on the Fight Pass Prelims we could stomach the attention CM is getting, but not this high up the card. We can respect a man going out of his comfort zone to pursue his dreams, but not at the expense of dedicated warriors who have pursued the same dream for tirelessly for pennies.

Punk has been training with the great Roufusport camp but he is likely light years behind Gall who is 14 years his junior! Mickey also has 2 amateur bouts of experience, and you know what, fuck this breakdown. Nobody, except maybe Duke Rufus, knows how far Mr. Brooks has come but it is highly unlikely he has advanced enough to stop this talented youngster. And really, who cares?

WINNER-Mickey Gall by Rd.1 TKO

Urijah Faber (33-9) +115 vs. Jimmie Rivera (19-1) -135

"The California Kid" lost potentially his last shot at UFC gold in June but the fire still burns for competition. The 1st ballot Hall of Famer is a competitor through and through but at 37, there is a ticking sound in the background.

"El Terror" is on an 18 fight winning streak and 10 years younger than Faber. Jimmie has looked much improved since joining the UFC and possesses great movement and technical striking. Pressure with intelligent defense are his traits.

We hate, hate, hate this fight for Urijah. MMAFO loves us some of the "Golden Locked God," but this is exactly the opponent that can outwork Faber. Rivera is just a better striker and has solid takedown defense making this a rough uphill battle for the Godfather of Team Alpha Male. Dammit.

WINNER-Jimmie Rivera by Decision

@ BADMOFO_JOJO
Joanne Calderwood (11-1) +125 vs. Jessica Andrade (14-5) -145

MMAFO's favorite female fighter is back! "Bad MoFo JoJo" looked amazing last out defeating Valerie Letourneau and obviously the move to Tristar has massively paid off! The Scottish kickboxer put on her best UFC effort to date and she is just a lovely human being.

We doubted the weight cut move of Andrade in June against Jessica Penne and boy were we wrong! "Bate Estaca" looked amazing at Strawweight and destroyed in her debut. The lil' "Spark Pug" (TM MMAFO) has serious power and grit.

This is going to be a striking war. Both of these women can bang and bring a lot to the table. Jessica will attack with fury in the 1st and Joanne must weather the storm. After she does, its time for "Dr. Kneevil" to unleash Hell! Calderwood must and will avoid the takedowns coming her way and strike early and often gaining the advantage while Andrade slows down.

On a side note, we're still waiting for Ms. Calderwood to contact us here at MMAFO. Seriously, there's ring waiting for you. Much love.

Prelims on FS1:

Jessica Eye (11-5, 1) -145 vs. Bethe Correia (9-2) +125

Jessica Eye has a Shih Tzu that looks identical to MMAFO mascot Hilda. That, gains her massive points. We've been a bit hard of Jesse over here but her recent Instagram posts have swayed us.

Bethe is Bethe. She is a strong striker in a little frame. As always.

Eye allows herself to be hit far too often and that is all Correia wants to do. The Brazilian wins what should be a pretty fun scrap.

Upset Pick WINNER-Bethe Correia by Decision

Brad Tavares (13-4) -185 vs. Caio Magalhaes (9-2) +160

Does everyone remember Caio? He's the piece of shit that spits in his opponents face after he loses. Really, fuck this guy.

WINNER-Brad Tavares by Decision

Nik Lentz (26-7-2, 1) -470 vs. Michael McBride (8-1) +375

Lentz is the gatekeeper extraordinaire who loves to make things ugly and grind down opponents. Now Nik has added epic poet to his resume which is somewhat amusing.

McBride is making his debut on a 4 fight streak and stepping in on late notice for Mairbek Taisumov with a tall task ahead of him. Good luck not getting murked her son.

WINNER-Nik Lentz by Rd.3 Submission

Ian McCall (13-5-1) -130 vs. Ray Borg (9-2) +110

Oh, hello "Uncle Creepy," where ya been? UFC 203 has 3 of MMAFO's favorite fighters of the day. Urijah Faber, Joanne Calderwood, and Mr. Ian McCall. Ian almost had to call it a career a while back but then shocked everyone signing to fight Justin Scoggins at UFC 201. Young Justin failed to make weight and McCall rightly refused to fight him. About time! More fighters should stop rewarding opponents who miss weight and make them truly pay. Aaaaand, then we hear, Borg out is out due to illness and McCall just can't catch a break! Doubtful they find a replacement this late and Ian is without a fight yet again.

Prelims on UFC Fight Pass:

Yancy Medeiros (12-4) -125 vs. Sean Spencer (12-5) +105

Both guys are tough average fighters and we just can't pretend to give a shit about this one.

WINNER-Yancy Hawaiian?

C.B. Dolloway (15-8) -185 vs. Francimar Barroso (18-5) +160

CB is garbage and "Bodao" isn't impressive either. Yawn.

WINNER-The "Jobberman" by Decision

Drew Dober (16-7) -170 vs. Jason Gonzalez (10-2) +150

2-3-1 for Dober. Jason is making his debut on a 6 fight bounce. Boy the UFC Fight Pass Prelims are dog shit aren't they?

WINNER-Drew Dober by Decision?
