UFC 203 Results: Miocic Retains Belt In A Strange Night In Cleveland

MAIN CARD Results:

Stipe Miocic KO’d Alistair Overeem via G&P at 4:27 of the opening round.

This was strange. Overeem came out using his notorious movement which quickly changed into straight up turning his back and running away. It did the trick of frustrating Miocic who began to chase and left himself open eating a left hand that dropped him to the mat. "The Reem" then applied his patented guillotine choke which came so close to earning him the coveted strap, but "Steepay" escaped at the last second. Stipe was now incensed and went after his prey to the home crowd's delight. Overeem threw an errant kick and Miocic used the opportunity to take the challenger down. From there, it was pinpoint punches that turned off the switch in "The Reem's" brain as he went to sleep. Miocic celebrated his 1st title defense as Overeem staggered trying to get to his stool.

Now a lot has been made about Alistair claiming Stipe "tapped out" post fight, but keep in mind the man was badly concussed.

Next, "Steepay" will likely face Cain Velasquez and good fucking luck with that. MMAFO has made good money off Miocic so far, but against Cain is where we jump off the train. Enjoy it though Cleveland's favorite son.

Fabricio Werdum defeated Travis Browne by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27, 30-27) in a bizarre bout.

So, Werdum came out with a flying ninja kick of all things which actually connected! Later, a punch injured the finger of Browne who turned his back to Fabricio and called "timeout" which of course, does not exist in MMA. Werdum tried to continue fighting and the referee made an error in allowing a halt to the action, and its rumored that the doctor popped the finger back into place. The bout should have been a TKO the moment Browne turned his back and quit. The doctors also cannot fix an injury and allow the bout to continue. A litany of mistakes here but the fault mainly lies with Travis who seems to have a terrible fight I.Q.

Anywho, Fabricio went on to drop "Hapa" a few times and easily won the decision. While we were awaiting the official announcement, Browne's trainer Edmond Tarverdyan was swearing at Werdum who used a teep kick to keep him at bay. Fabricio's teammate and MMA veteran Renato "Babalu" Sobral had to be restrained as he attempted to enter the cage to defend his friend. The cage was cleared of both teams and the crowd boo'd the Brazilian who truly was not at fault. Strange times in Ohio folks.

And after all of this silliness, how about ole Travis Browne jabbing another goddamn finger into another goddamn opponents eye! Do you think Matt Mitirione has a case now?

Mickey Gall tapped Phil Brooks via Rear-Naked Choke at 2:14 of the very 1st round.

"CM Punk" walked out on his tip toes like BJ Penn did against Frankie Edgar (3) and instantly got taken to the ground. From there, Gall attacked with a vengeance pummeling "Punky Brooks" (TM MMAFO). Mr. Brooks re-established guard once, hand fought for a bit, and then got choked and submitted. Wow, that went exactly as expected. The 38 year old novice had nothing to offer a 24 year old blue chip prospect with MMA experience. Shocking.

This was a mistake for CM on so many levels. Joe Rogan said it best post fight saying he admired the guys heart, but he was "delusional" thinking he could compete at this level. To be fair, the UFC was insane to match Phillip with a youth with such great potential. It would have made much more sense to match CM Punk against Mike Jackson (0-1) who fought Mickey for his inaugural UFC outing. This was a massive terrible idea from the jump. Either match this cat properly on the Fight Pass Prelims, or send him on his way to Bellator if'n he wants to keep playing this game.

As for Gall, he looked good against a rookie old man but he truly does have potential. ATT coach and former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Thomas Brown stated the kid is hungry and works very hard in the gym. Good traits and a good start from a reputable source. Mickey deftly called out Sage Northcutt for a future squabble which is genius. "Super" Sage is hated and its smart business so kudos to this smart kid.

Jimmie Rivera defeated Urijah Faber by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

It seemed like Faber broke his right hand quickly into the bout and then he was without his best weapon. From there, Rivera delivered hard leg kicks that wobbled the "California Kid" and it was just a sad day. Not a good showing for Urijah who has truly had his share of bad luck in the UFC. :(

Jessica Andrade submitted Joanne Calderwood via Guillotine Choke at 4:38 of the 1st round.

To further MMAFO's pain, "Bad MoFo JoJo" was taken down and the "Spark Pug" latched onto a guillotine from which our beloved could not escape. We're just going to say this now and take it as you will. Andrade is built like a man and the smell test says she is, or has used PEDs. Just saying.

Prelims Results:

Bethe Correia defeated Jessica Eye by controversial Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Brad Tavares defeated Caio Magalhaes by Split Decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28).

Nik Lentz TKO’d Michael McBride with Punches at 4:17 of the 2nd round.

Drew Dober TKO’d Jason Gonzalez via Punches at 1:45 of the 1st round.

Yancy Medeiros submitted Sean Spencer via Rear-Naked Choke 0:49 into the 2nd round.
