UFC Fight Night 98 Finale Results:

MAIN CARD Results:

Tony Ferguson defeated Raphael dos Anjos by Unanimous Decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).

Diego Sanchez defeated Marcin Held by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27).

What-the-hell-was-Marcin-doing? Held came out doing just fine with his striking, and in the 2nd round, attempted his special leg lock maneuvers from which Sanchez escaped, and then the fight was over. Marcin was completely gassed out from then on allowing Diego to do as he pleased. Held must have misjudged the effect the elevation in Mexico City would have on him (much like "Sea Level" Cain) and he didn't have a backup plan. Aargh, terrible and now Sanchez continues on with yet another goddamn win.

Ricardo Lamas submitted Charles Oliveira via Guillotine Choke at 2:13 of the 2nd round.

Justice prevails. MMAFO cannot let go of the fact that Oliveira came into this bout 10 lbs. over the limit. Granted, he was coming in on short notice, but if you can't make the weight, don't take the fight. Chuck has now lost 3 of his last 4 and after missing weight for the 5th time in his career (which is unacceptable), we wouldn't be surprised if he was cut from the UFC roster and in fact we hope this will be the case.

As for the "Bully," Lamas seemed trapped in an early Brabo Choke and then Oliveira took his back. Ricardo was locked in the RNC but survived the final 10 seconds of the round to escape. Charles got the takedown yet again but the grappling skills of Ricardo appeared as he swept the Brazilian and took side control. Lamas latched onto a guillotine choke as Oliveira went to stand and earned the tapout. A nice and deserved win for Ricardo who lost a big opportunity when BJ Penn dropped out of their bout 3 weeks ago and had to face an unprofessional opponent this evening.

Martin Bravo TKO’d  Claudio Puelles at 1:55 of the 2nd round to become the new TUF Latin America 3 winner.

Somewhere Bas Rutton is smiling. Bravo landed a liver shot, a 3 punches to the head of Puelles, and then another pinpoint liver shot that took the soul out of Claudio who crumpled to the canvas. A nice win for Martin in a bout that meant very little.

Beneil Dariush defeated Rashid Magomedov by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

Beneil outsmarted and out worked Rashid in a grinding affair. Dariush used the Thai plum to work constant knees into the guy of Magomedov, who as per usual, didn't amount much of a response. The King's MMA fighter was also quicker on the draw and out landed his striking opponent 60 to 41! Beneil was more aggressive and was rewarded with his 8th win in the Octagon.

Grasso sparkled in her debut.
Alexa Grasso defeated Heather Jo Clark by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) to make a successful debut.

Alexa was cautious early, but then unloaded a swarming combination on Heather that was quite impressive. Grasso seemed tentative for the entire bout but there was no doubt that when she threw strikes, she landed with great accuracy and power as Clark's nose and eye were busted up. Heather showed courage as always but was out classed by the 23 year old prospect. A solid "B" performance from Grasso who will only improve.

FOX Sports 1 Prelims Results:

Erik Perez defeated Felipe Arantes via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

"El Goyito" used his superior grappling skills to control Arantes just enough to squeak by with the decision win. Felipe had his moments on the mat early, and then seemed to find his 2nd gear late, but it was not enough as the hometown hero was mightily cheered by the raucous crowd to victory. There was no way Perez was going to lose a decision in Mexico but he earned the win anyway.

Joe Soto tapped Marco Beltran with an Inverted Heel Hook at 1:37 of the very 1st round.

Mr. Soto got a quick takedown and applied an absolutely beautiful heel hook on Beltran who was tapping before he knew what hit him. An emphatic and stellar use of Jiu-Jitsu as Joe is starting to find his rhythm in the UFC. "Submission of the Night"

Max Griffin TKO’d Erick Montano at 0:54 of the opening round.

Erick whiffed with a punch and Max made him pay with a left hand that dropped Montano. "Max Pain" jumped all over Erick after and sealed the deal with the coffin nails. Griffin is a finisher and he likes to do it early.

Douglas Silva de Andrade TKO’d Henry Briones via Spinning Back Fist at 2:33 of the 3rd round.

Andrade hurt Briones with a left hand and followed it with a spinning back fist that wrecked poor Henry. The referee was basically on top of the two fighters and instantly stepped in though it seemed like Briones had his faculties about him. A case can be made for the early stoppage here but it was a nice sequence nonetheless. "(T)KO of the Night"

UFC Fight Pass Prelims Results:

Sam Alvey defeated Alex Nicholdson by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

"Smile'N" Sam did just enough to get the nod. Alvey is a counter striker with power so he tends to be passive waiting for his moments and that was the case this evening, but Sam also pushed ahead and wounded Alex at one point. It wasn't an impressive showing by any stretch, but it is another win for Alvey who smiles on.

Marco Polo Reyes defeated Jason Novelli via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Yes he did.

Enrique Barzola defeated Chris Avila by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26).

Man, Avila just doesn't belong in the UFC. Not yet anyway. Chris needs to go back down to the minors for some seasoning while Barzola gets a dominant win.
