Rizin 4 Openweight Grand Prix Finals: Fight Card + Picks & Prognostications (Updated)

December 31, 2016
Saitama Super Arena
Saitama, Japan

So a lot has happened shifting the Rizin cards around and causing a lot of confusion. JMMA is never one to give answers but MMAFO will try and keeps things as updated and tidy as possible. Wanderlei Silva is out due to injury and Shane Carwin has shelved his supposed return for undisclosed reasons. "King MO" who won an "alternate" bout at the last event is in for "The Axe Murderer." Whomever wins the 2nd round Grand Prix tournament bouts, will battle it out to become King of the Openweight Grand Prix on this evening. Stay tuned!

Rizin OWGP Tournament Final
Mirko Filipovic vs. Valentin Moldavski?

If MMAFO picks things correctly, this will be the final. No matter what, we got "Cro Cop" winning yet another Grand Prix in Japan just to add to his legacy.

WINNER-Mirko Filipovic by TKO

Tatsuya Kawajiri (35-10-2) vs. Kron Gracie (3-0)

"Crusher" has returned home after going 3-3 in the UFC. Now veteran Kawajiri is tasked with stopping the newest unstoppable Gracie. Tatsuya is known for his smothering grappling skills and will do doubt be looking to defend the honor of Japan.

Kron, as you might have guessed, is a Jiu-Jitsu ace. This will be Kron's 1st test against a truly dangerous foe and we shall see where he is at with his MMA game.

Gracie's best chance here is to get this into a scramble where he can sneak in a submission hold, but Kawajiri has only been submitted 3 times 47 professional bouts! Call us crazy, but we are not yet believers in Kron Gracie. The longer this bout goes, the more it will favor Tatsuya. MMAFO see's "Crusher" wearing down the newest Gracie sensation before taking control of the contest and winning on points in a mild Upset.

WINNER-Tatsuya Kawajiri by Decision

Hideo Tokoro (33-29-2) vs. Erson Yamamoto (1-1)

The "Badman" has come to MMA and he's trying to get adjusted to the new rule set. Erson trains with his family at Krazy Bee and has a kickboxing history.

Tokoro is a journeyman with a ton of experience to hold over the youngster. Hideo can do it all but submissions will be his key to victory.

Tokoro has become a fragile man at 39 but Yamamoto has not adapted that well to MMA yet. Old man strength ftw!

WINNER-Hideo Tokoro by Rd.2 Submission

Rena Kubota (2-0) vs. Hanna Gujwan (1-0)

Oh the fetching and talented Rena. Kobota has become a Japanese superstar at 25 having won multiple titles in kickboxing. Then Rena comes to MMA winning both of her efforts by submission including a flying armbar! A dangerous young lady. The Pole has been brought in to be destroyed and it will be so.

WINNER-Rena Kubota by Decision

Andy Nguyen (3-3) Miyu Yamamoto (0-1)

The "Crasian" American has a .500 record but she just won the King of the Cage Atomweight Championship and is beginning to find her groove backed by her striking power.

Miyu made her professional MMA debut at age 42, but she is a physical specimen who can wrestle your ass off. The elder sister of Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto and mommy to Erson.

Its the classic striker versus grappler. We would not be surprised if Miyu took this to the judges and won, but she is 8 years older and might not take damage well when inflicted by Andy. Nguyen is the safer bet.

WINNER-Andy Nguyen by Decision

Kizaemon Saiga (2-2) vs. Dillin West (0-0)

Oh Saiga is back, great. The "Kiz" is a celebrity husband but who in the blue hell is he facing? Anyone?

WINNER-Kizaemon Saiga by Decision

Gabi Garcia (3-0) vs. Yumiko Hotta (5-4)

Why? WHY? Why would Rizin schedule this massacre? Hotta is 49 year old professional wrestler who hasn't competed in MMA since '12 when she lost by keylock, 12, that's 12 years after her previous bout which she lost via armbar. Gabi has 40 pounds and 18 years on Yumiko. There is no reason for this.

WINNER-Gabi Garcia by Rd.1 Submission

Hayato Sakurai (37-13-2) vs. Wataru Sakata (11-13)

The legendary "Mach" hasn't competed in 3 years but in his prime, he was one of the best Welterweights in all the world. Unfortunately, Sakurai is now 41, and after 52 professional fights, the bloom is off the rose.

The good news, is that Sakata was never good and hasn't competed 13 years. "Mach" ftw!!

WINNER-Hayato Sakurai by Decision

Rizin OWGP Semi-Final 2
Mirko Filipovic (33-11-2) vs. Kaido Hoovelson (3-0)

The legendary "Cro Cop" showed that old man strength crushing "King Mo" on Thursday. Filipovic still has that crazy kickboxing power and what can "Baruto" do against him Hoovelson has shown he likes to box and especially if he can get a takedown but good luck with all that against the Hall of Famer ya tubby sonofabitch.

WINNER-Mirko Filipovic by Rd.1 TKO

Rizin OWGP Semi-Final 1
Amir Aliakbari (4-0) vs. Valentin Moldavsky (5-0)

The Iranian had no trouble beating the holy hell out of a returning Heath Herring and will have good size and power advantage.

Team Fedor's Moldavsky is giving up around 60 lbs. but he has a more well rounded game.

Look for Valentin to employ a safe, smart game plan, taking Amir down for a judges nod.

WINNER-Valentin Moldavsky by Decision

Charles Bennett (30-30-2) vs. Minoru Kimura (0-1)

Fuck this guy. Really. Fuck this piece of human shit! He's a horrible person and its really vexing the MMA community looks the other way as this insult to humanity who has been arrested (at least) 19 times, and is a multi-time felon, can knock people out and act like a jackass.

WINNER-The Piece of Shit
