UFC 206 Results:
Max Holloway TKO’d Anthony Pettis by Massive Punch Combination at 4:50 of the 3rd round!
Yes, Max becomes the "Interim" UFC Featherweight Champion, but this trinket means nothing save for Holloway is now the official #1 contender to Jose Aldo.
So what do you guys think of that Interim belt? |
Max did as we predicted pressuring Tony and wounding him with a deadly left hand in the 1st, but also countered beautifully continually catching "Showtime" coming in close. Pettis' right eye was swollen and bloody to begin the 2nd, and it would only get worse. Holloway was moving very well mixing in the leg kicks along with body shots and punches while Anthony's strikes landed far less often and with less creativity.
When the 3rd stanza began, it became apparent that Anthony had broken his right hand and his eye was nearly closed. Max's body shots and jabs were perfection and a final body shot set up the explosion of punches that crumbled poor Pettis to the canvas.
* It's time for Pettis to put away this attempt to be a player at 145's. The guy seems in such a hurry to get back to a belt that he risked far too much here. Now "Pretty Tony" will be sidelined with a broken hand and a bruised ego. At least Anthony can now be included with his brother Sergio who has also missed weight before a big fight. The blueprint on how to defeat Pettis is clear and its time for him to return to Roufusport to add some new weapons to his game and simply take some needed time off.
* Max earned a shot at the title a long time ago but now it is official as it can be. 10! 10, goddamn wins in a row and let's end the Jose Aldo dispute and put these two men together for an epic fight!
Donald Cerrone KO’d Matt Brown via Head Kick at 0:34 of the 3rd round.
"Cowboy" was busting up Brown's body and head kick to the right eye early, but then almost got caught in an armbar/triangle choke when he followed Matt to the ground.
In the 2nd, a right hook floored Cerrone and Matt tried to press his advantage when another head kick rocked Brown. Matt never learned that the head kick was going to keep coming and ducked into the blow for a 3rd and final time in the last round. Brown crashed to the mat unconscious as "Cowboy" walked off to celebrate. A pretty damn good fight.
"Vicious body kick," exclaimed Mike Goldberg fucking up the fight ending call as he often does. Idiot.
Kevin Swanson defeated Doo Ho Choi by Unanimous Decision (30-27 2x, 29-28).
This was a lot of fun! Both of these warriors came out throwing murder! "Cub" was attacking with all kinds of spinning shit and multi-punch combinations while Doo was being more technical and using a stunning jab that won him the opening round. From there, Swanson took over even though he seemed more fatigued most of the time. Choi never gave up but it was just Swanson's night as he waved to the crowd and blindly punched connecting on Doo and showing shades of Roy Jones Jr. Even though there were wild exchanges on the feet (including backfists and cartwheel kicks). Both men were hurt multiple times but kept fighting like savages.
In the final round, "Cub" was getting tagged when he deftly used a stellar head-and-arm throw to re-establish dominance. In the final moments, Swanson dropped the now bloody Korean and followed him to the ground for brutal G&P. Choi survived but lost on points in a "Fight of the Year" candidate. "Fight of the Weekend"
Kelvin Gastelum TKO’d Tim Kennedy with Punches at 2:25 of the 3rd round.
Who's your daddy Timmy? Kelvin overwhelmed the overrated Kennedy until the oft gassed Marine quit and fell to the ground. Gastelum added some coffin nails but Tim was finished. It's funny how much Mr. Kennedy talks about how bad ass he is yet he always pusses out in bouts. Anywho, a solid win for Kelvin who is still claiming he will return to 170 which makes no sense. You constantly miss the Welter weight (ha!) and look quite impressive at Middle. Some people want to do things the hard way. Gastelum will either learn or wash out but Kennedy should retire as he has been threatening for some time.
How about ya Viking bastard? Meek had a rough week leading up to this contest. The stupid commission wouldn't let him bring a weapon (his axe) to pre-fight events and forced him to cut his long Viking beard. Emil persevered and walked through everything Mein threw at him. The "Valhalla Army"roared as Meek continually took Jordan to the mat for a pounding. For his part, Mein looked quite uninspired but all credit to the rover who shined in the spotlight.
Misha Cirkunov submitted Nikita Krylov by submission Guillotine Choke at 4:38 of the opening round.
A straight left hand set up the finish as Misha locked in a guillotine choke on the wounded Nikita. MMAFO's boy wins again and welcome to the Top 10 big fella!
Olivier Aubin-Mercier tapped Drew Dober by Rear-Naked Choke at 2:57 of the 2nd round.
Why Drew thought it was a good idea to compete with a noted grappler on the mat is beyond us. OAM made him pay for it though and has now won back-to-back bouts with subs.
Viviane Pereira defeated Valerie Letourneau by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Oh Val. She missed weight and looked just awful. Letourneau had an incredible size advantage and just shit the bed out there losing heir 3rd bout in a row and possibly earning a trip back down to Invicta FC. Her fall is epic and this was an awful fight.
Matthew Lopez defeated Mitch Gagnon by Unanimous Decision (29-28 2x, 29-27).
Upset city! Gagnon looked solid early knocking down Lopez but he let Matt off the hook for which he would make Mitch pay for the next two rounds.

Landon Vannata KO’d John Makdessi via Wheel Kick at 1:40 of the initial round.
"This deal is getting worse all the time!" for poor John. "Lando" nearly took Makdessi's head off with a spectacular pinpoint wheel kick that landed flush on the jaw. Must be seen to be believed! "KO of the Weekend"
Rustam Khabilov defeated Justin Saggo by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).
Yeah you won, but you missed weight and won your 4th decision in a row. That's not bad but it's just disappointing because the guy has so much potential he just cannot seem to tap into. Meh.
Dustin Ortiz defeated Zach Makovsky by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
UFC Fight Night 102 Results:
Derrick Lewis TKO’d Shamil Abdurakhimov with Punches at 3:42 of the 4th round.
If you enjoy watching fat men grab fences and slob around a cage, then this bout is for you. Garbage. Pure garbage. Lewis has a lot of work to do if he wants to be taken at all seriously in the UFC's Heavyweigtht division. Garbage.
Francis Ngannou submitted Anthony Hamilton by Kimura at 1:57 of the opening round.
Okay, if Ngannou is going to start submitting people than he is truly terrifying. Francis grabbed Anthony's arm ripping it from the socket and tossing it into the crowd in a macabre scene. Maybe a little bit of hyperbole there but homie did just power his way to that finish. Scary-as-hell. "Submission of the Weekend"
Corey Anderson TKO’d Sean O’Connell via Punches at 2:36 of the 2nd round.
"Beastin' 25/8" is now "Overtime" continuing his string of ridiculous and stupid nicknames, but he looked great in this contest showing the signs of improvement we have been waiting to see. This guy is still one to watch at 205's.
Gian Villante TKO’d Saparbek Safarov with Punches and Elbows at 2:54 of the 2nd round.
Gian is still terrible and continues to struggle after the opening round. Jesus man, buy a bike or go run already.
Justine Kish defeated Ashley Yoder by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).
Randy Brown TKO’d Brian Camozzi via Knee and Punches at 1:25 of the 2nd round.
Gerald Meerschaert tapped Joseph Gigliotti by Anaconda Choke at 4:12 of the initial round.
Andrew Sanchez defeated Trevor Smith by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).
Shane Burgos defeated Tiago da Silva by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-27) in a cracker jack!
Had it not occurred on the same weekend as Cub and Choi, this would have been "fight of the weekend." This was really a great fight with tons of action and history making at Burgos became the 1st fighter in UFC History to get a haircut between rounds! Tiago suffered a leg injury but stormed back anyway in the final round of this war! Definitely worth checking out fight fans.
Marc Diakiese defeated Frankie Perez by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).
Ryan Janes defeated Keith Berish by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).
Juliana Lima defeated J.J. Aldrich by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).
And so, MMAFO went 17-6 on the picks this weekend. We also had Rico Verhoeven over Bahr Hari (@ Glory: Collision) and Alessio Sakara over Joey Beltran (@Bellator 168) but we didn't publish it so it doesn't count. On to the next event!
